We’ve had another great fortnight of learning at The Hills School. Rooms 1 & 2 have been busy welcoming Isabella into their class space and this has been just brilliant. The whole team, staff and students, have been helping Isabella to connect and engage and she’s doing marvelously well. A great effort Rooms 1 & 2. Andrew’s class (Room 11) made some absolutely brilliant scones earlier this week that left Neale and I feeling very full…..delicious. I was impressed by the team in Rooms 15 & 16 when visiting in the morning, not only did I get offered a warm cuppa but was treated to a fashion show of PPE by Dean. Room 3 has had a number of additions and changes to students with many only able to start in the class this term. Debbie and Amber have been hard at work settling into some great learning. Congratulations to Amber Buckland who’s just been made a permanent member of staff at The Hills, well done and well deserved. I’d also like to officially welcome Jess Meyer to the permanent teaching team at The Hills after being succesfully appointed through merit selection earlier this term. Well done Jess. We’ve also said goodbye to some staff this term with Di Robertson, our farm hand, along with SLSO Glenn Hall needing to leave us. I am very grateful for their service to the students at The Hills School, we wish you both all the very best. Our P&C Annual General Meeting is coming up on Monday evening at 7.00pm. Please get in touch with the school office if you’d like further details. We’ll be practising appropriate physical distancing, careful hand hygiene practises and making sure that all site visitors complete a site registration and declaration when we welcome you to the meeting. Parents will be aware that COVID-19 restrictions have again eased somewhat. Some classes have started back in the pool but we’re not yet able to have volunteers on site which has meant there are many classes that are unable to begin this activity. There is no community access yet apart from walking to the oval next to the school, however, I am hopeful that we’ll see the restrictions continue to ease and we’ll be able to get back to normal soon. It is important to continue to remind families that students whom are unwell should stay home. If a student becomes sick at any time during the day they will be isolated and sent home. We need to remain vigilent and careful in supporting all students and staff. It's been a very challenging term for everyone. Families have been under enourmous pressure with COVID restrictions and I wish to extend my sincere thanks for the great cooperation and support we’ve had from you all. You’ve been patient, flexible and diligent partners working with us to get through this challenging time. As we head towards a school holiday break I wish you all the very best for a safe holiday period and look forward to getting back to learning in Term 3. Mark R/Principal Newsletter No.6 26 June 2020

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM AT WARRAH SPECIALIST SCHOOL

Expressions of Interest

Warrah Specialist School is expanding our After School Program starting Term 3.

The students would be picked up from The Hills School, driven by our qualified carers to Warrah, participate in a range of activities, and then be driven home by our staff. This program is typically funded by your NDIS plan and would include 3 hours of community programs and 1-2 hours driving home.

At this stage we are seeking Expressions of Interest with a view to forming groups and activities tailored to each individual. Please also indicate which days your child would like to attend. The program would run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00pm. Please email Erin at [email protected]

if you are interested.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to the following students from your

friends at The Hills School:

Due to the events over the past few months, we have had to postpone the AGM for 2020 till now. We are finally able to host a meeting in the Hall with the space required to keep everyone attending safe, the date has been set as Monday 29 June at 7pm. Voting will be held for the new executive committee members. At the conclusion of this meeting, the ordinary meeting for June will commence. We will also be hosting a Zoom video meeting during this time. For anyone not able to attend but who would like to access the meetings, please email [email protected] and we will provide the link to the meeting. Membership from families has dropped over the past few years as our regular attendees have moved on once their children graduate. We are as a result in need of new members. As a P&C we provide an essential level of support to the school and in addition to this we operate the fleet of school buses. We need the ongoing support from our families. Please do join us so that we can continue to operate and provide the support our school needs.
