21 Lowood District Athle cs Carnival @ Toogoolawah SS
21st June 2017
Principal’s Update What a great day at Toogoolawah State School yesterday! It was wonderful having so many of our parents and wider school
family at the school for the Sports Day. The students performed admirably as they competed in the many and varied events
that the day brought forth.
I have to say a big thank you to the staff at Toogoolawah State School for their assistance in ge ng through the en re program
in the one day – thank you everyone for making it a successful day for everyone.
Le ers for the Lowood District will be delivered to students in the 9‐year‐old to 12‐year‐old age groups. The Lowood District
compe on will be hosted at Toogoolawah State School on Friday 21st July and will involve students from Fernvale, Lowood,
Esk and Toogoolawah State School.
Please read on to see more informa on and photos from yesterday’s sports day.
WelcomeMrCaseA le er went home on Monday informing families about the appointment of Mr Jonathan Case in the role of Principal at
Toogoolawah. Mr Case is moving from his current posi on at Tagai State College (Thursday Islands) to Toogoolawah and he
will be beginning next Term as the Principal at Toogoolawah State School.
I have enjoyed my me at Toogoolawah immensely and have con nuously been impressed with the quality of teaching and
learning that happens in this school every day. Thank you for your ongoing support of the school as the staff and students seek
to improve the educa onal outcomes delivered here. I will be heading back to Linville State School and taking up my role as
the Principal again there. My associa on with Toogoolawah will con nue and I look forward to seeing and hearing about the
good things that happen at this school.
SomersetCupThis Friday Year 5 and Year 6 students will be a ending the Somerset Cup at Toogoolawah State High School. This event
involves all primary schools in our cluster of schools, Esk, Harlin, Linville and Toogoolawah. It gives students an opportunity to
compete in modified team sports and to familiarise themselves with Toogoolawah State High School. The event is supported
by Somerset Regional Council who supply the buses and help run the day. I will be a ending this event as the organiser of this
ac vity on Friday.
ToiletBlockMaintenanceCurrently specialised maintenance work is taking place in the Junior toilet block. Due to this work and the availability of the
company comple ng the work, we have had to close the Junior toilet block this week.
Year5CamptoBarambahPermission le ers have gone out to the Year 5 students for their camp to Barambah Environmental Educa on Centre. Every
a empt was made to make this as cost efficient as possible. School camps are fantas c opportuni es for students to learn
outside of the classroom. They are also great opportuni es for personal growth and development of students.
I would encourage every Year 5 student to a end the camp.
Year 4 will be a ending a one‐night camp later on this year at Camp Duckadang (near Linville). This will be for all Year 4
students. Miss Cowley is organising this camp, which again promises to be a great experience for these students.
TrialforSemester12017We are trialling a change to when you will receive your students Semester 1 reports. The most significant change is:
Semester 1 reports will go home on Wednesday 12th July.
Parent‐Teacher interviews will be held on Tuesday 18th July (from 3.15 – 6.30 pm)
and Tuesday 25th July (from 3.15 – 4.30 pm).
Repor ng comments in the learning areas that were assessed in Semester 1 will generally be shorter in length, with a
comment about what your child needs to do to improve their level of achievement.
This is a trial and as a school we will be seeking feedback from you in Term 3.
Aaron McDonnell, Ac ng Principal
P&CSHOWFUNDRAISINGOn behalf of the Toogoolawah State School community we would like to thank Jodie Cannell and Regina Graham for their tremendous effort organising the Canteen at the Toogoolawah Show. We would also like to thank all the parents and friends that volunteered their me over the 2 days to help. We raised just under $7000 for this event, which is an incredible effort. We look forward to seeing our children and school benefit from this amazing fundraiser. Thank you Thank you Thank you!
P&CTUCKSHOPNEWSThe P&C has recently reviewed Tuckshop arrangements. Our tuckshop sales have been down in Term 2, and there is increasing pressure on 3 people – Jodie Cannell, Regina Graham, Nichole La er – to place orders, organise rosters and be there to run tuckshop each Friday. It is a constant struggle to find volunteers each week. Thank you Jodie, Regina & Nichole for your relentless efforts this term.
With this in mind, the P&C have decided to open tuckshop fortnightly on Fridays in Term 3 with a standard set menu. Week 1 will be the first Friday. We would like to encourage all parents to put their name down for 1 of these Fridays. Many hands make light work. With revenue raised from tuckshop, we can provide more opportuni es for our children at Toogoolawah State School. It is fun and a great way to meet more parents in our school community.
ImportantTuckshopNewsParents are reminded that there will be no tuckshop this Friday.
LibraryNewsAll books are due back at school by tomorrow, Thursday 22nd June. There will be no borrowing over the school holidays.
ReadersCupCongratulations to our amazing team of readers who were placed 5th in the Readers Cup challenge last week at Lowood High School. Our team gained the most points in one of the rounds for which they won a book prize.
Our team competed against state and private Primary schools in our region.
Well done, Alex, Erica, Jasmine and Jake

Citizenship&AchievementAward—MatthewCumnerKindly sponsored by the Toogoolawah IGA.
Why is Matthew the Student of the Week? Apart from being a total all-rounder and being very good at everything he puts his mine to in class, Matthew is a great person. He is friendly to everyone and tries very hard to make sure that everyone feels valued and a part of the Year 4 class. His care for others makes him a top class friend to have and a role model to others. As well as being that genuine nice guy—he possesses a fantastic, witty sense of humour—which makes him really fun to have around in the classroom as well. Matthew is a brilliant role model for others at Toogoolawah State School. Well done Matthew!
