Week 6 Term 2 Date: Friday, 5 June 2020
Welcome to Week 6.
Thank you for your support and efficiency in supporting the kiss
and drop at the gate. Whilst it is not what we may like, it may be
our reality for an extended period. There have been some
benefits though with many proud parents seeing an increasingly
level of independence in their children. Please call the school
first if you have essential business and need to come in person.
Online Safety During the Learning From Home period we have seen an increase in the use of social media
platforms with students at the school. Over the last week we have become aware of some very
inappropriate content that students
using the TikTok platform may have
been exposed to. The minimum age
for a user is 13. If you learn that your
child under the age of 13 has
registered for a TikTok account, you
may alert the platform at
[email protected]. They will
promptly take appropriate action.
Below are links for parents with
resources that you may like to
consider. Please be aware a number of students in the school have multiple accounts and parents
may be aware of one but not others.

Stage 2 Great Aussie Bush Camp
Due to the restrictions around Covid -19 all school
excursions are currently banned. Unfortunately we have
been unable to move the excursion to Term 4 and have
made the decision to cancel the camp for this year.
Parents who have made a payment for the Aussie Bush Camp are asked to contact the school to
regarding their preference for a refund. There are two options available to parents.
The first option is to do nothing and the fees will be automatically transferred to fees in advance for
the student. These fees can then be used for future events or to pay fees such as book pack or
voluntary contribution.
The second option is for a refund. If the payment was made through the school web page (POP
Payment) upon authorisation from the payee the refund will be processed through POP and returned
to the same account. If payment was by cash or EFTPOS, payment will be via electronic payment to
a nominated bank account. Parents will need to supply to the school the name of the parent who
made the payment, their BSB and Bank Account number as well as the account name.
Semester 1 Reporting Under the department’s Curriculum planning and programming, assessing and reporting to parents
K-12 policy, we provide parents/carers, throughout the school year, with formal and informal
opportunities to receive information about and discuss their child's learning. In response to the
COVID-19 pandemic there have been changes to our Semester 1 reports.
Semester 1 reports will be delayed for distribution until early in Term 3. These reports will be
simplified and will not cover all Key Learning Areas. Students will not receive an A-E grade.
Our report will provide a summative account of student progress and achievement on learning
covered during Semester 1, at school and at home, with information about what might need to be
done to support your child’s learning growth.

Greetings MayWest Families,
I hope you and yours are well at this time.
The past couple of months have thrown up challenges for everyone - as a parent, I know I haven't
always made the best choices or been my best self - just ask my wife and kids!
I have been encouraged however, over the past couple of months to see people pulling together and
seizing opportunities to bless their neighbours and community
I just wanted to put it out there if you or your families need support - be it practical or support for your
emotional health - please don't hesitate to reach out. There are people in our community who want to
help, and support services you can connect with to help you manage everything that's happening.
In my role, I am here to support students, staff and the wider school community - yes, that
includes you!!
You can send me an email at [email protected] or get in touch via the office
(4968539) if you think we can help.
Blessings,
Tim
School Chaplain
Parking
Just a reminder in regards to parking at school drop off and pick up times. Please take note of all the
parking signs. The Council Ranger regularly visits the school and infringement penalties have
increased as we now have a crossing supervisor.

Intention to apply for Year 5 entry to an opportunity class in 2021
Dear Parent/Carer
Opportunity classes can provide intellectual stimulation by grouping together high potential and

usually have to leave their current school to enrol in a school with an opportunity class for Years 5 and 6.
New for 2021 entry
A Year 5 virtual opportunity class has been established at Aurora College for students in rural and
remote NSW. Further information is available at http://www.aurora.nsw.edu.au/
Testing and assessment
Applications for opportunity class placement are considered on the results of the Opportunity Class
Placement Test. Students who wish to be considered for opportunity class placement will sit the
Opportunity Class Placement Test on Wednesday 16 September 2020.
