PRINCIPALS REPORT I would like to thank all parents for the way that you are exercising your parental judgement on whether to send your children to school or to keep them at home. Over the last three days, 45% of parents have been keeping their children at home. I hope that the people of Victoria will work together to ensure that COVID-19 infecon rates will quickly reduce. In my view, it will take 12 weeks of strong safety measures to achieve good outcomes. Our school is open for business unless new requirements are mandated by State Health and Government leaders. Our wonderful communicaon and relaonships, combined with high vigilance in the areas of physical distancing and sanisaon, will eventually overcome our current challenges. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

I would like to thank all parents for the way that you are exercising your parental judgement on whether to send your children to school or to keep them at home. Over the last three days, 45% of parents have been keeping their children at home. I hope that the people of Victoria will work together to ensure that COVID-19 infection rates will quickly reduce. We will continue our study of the value, Responsibility, next week. Responsible people own their behaviour. They do not blame others, or use the misbehaviour of others, to influence their behaviour. They never make excuses for the misbehaviour. Responsible people earn the trust of others as they always do the right thing regardless of anyone being around to check on them. Other people can count on them to do their best and keep their promises. One of my greatest disappointments at the moment are those people who are not acting in a responsible way and following the 4 steps as outlined by the Health Department to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The guidelines are simple: 1. Wash your hands with soap or use hand sanitiser. 2. Stay 1.5m away from others. 3. Do not go to work or school if you feel sick. 4 Only leave home for work/school, shopping for food, exercise (near home) or medical appointments. We all need to be responsible and follow the Health Department’s guidelines if we are going to flatten the curve once more. Dianne Wright

Value of the Week

Meet the staff of Emerson School

Mrs Dianne Wright — Middle School Campus Principal When I am not at school I like to spend time with my family. I have been blessed with three wonderful sons and their wives. However, my greatest joy are my three grandsons. Unfortunately, I have not been able to see them due to the lockdown but they FaceTime me every night after school. They give my husband and I great happiness. My other passion is walking in the parklands that surround our house. Last Sunday, I saw two swans and three pelicans playing in the lake.

1. What is your favourite thing about working at Emerson School? My favourite thing about Emerson School is the people. Our staff are extraordinary. They would ‘walk over hot coals’ for our students. They work long hours to provide high quality programs so that our students have the very best opportunities to succeed in all aspects of life. Our students are amazing too. I love the way they never let failure get in their way. Their persistence and ability to rise above adversity is legendry. 2. What is your favourite sporting team? I barrack for the mighty Brisbane Lions.

3. What is your favourite food? My favourite food is Thai food.

4. Do you have a pet and if so, what animal and their name? My son has a dog called Gatsby. He is a cavoodle and he is so cute!

JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS

During Wellbeing in JSD, we learnt about being ‘Bucket Fillers’! Being a Bucket Filler is easy. It involves saying or doing something kind, giving someone a smile, helping without being asked or maybe using your manners - there are hundreds of wonderful ways to fill buckets. Each student in JSD has made their own unique bucket that contains their feelings and emotions. However, when it is empty, we feel low and upset. So in JSD we have learnt to always fill each other’s buckets, to be the best person we can be! Laura Gould – JSD Classroom Teacher
