Principal’s Pen In God’s Care We have some pretty inspirational staff at Cornerstone, and as well as instructing your children, they have opportunity to speak into the lives of the staff as a whole during our morning devotions. One message last Friday was a great reminder for us all -parents, students and staff - as we face the traditional frenetic start to the year. One particular story hit home for many of us. It was an experience this particular teacher had relating to her car. Whilst facing an extremely busy day with a number of pressing schedules to meet, her car suddenly lost power. As she pulled over she discovered a subtle little light flashing on the dashboard that announced that she had run out of fuel. The subtly of the warning had been missed in the busyness of life. She had deadlines to meet and this was extremely inconvenient. After trying to call her husband and friends, it appeared that nobody had access to their phones in her time of need. As she sat by the side of the road she took the time to calm down and pray. After a short time she suddenly saw the approach of a friend who happened to be driving past. She was able to gain their attention and her situation was ultimately resolved. The message in her heart from this event was that there are times when it is necessary to lean on a friend – and at all times there is a friend we have in our loving Heavenly Father. A Father who can act and guide beyond the human abilities we have. A Father who can send others our way and provide us someone to lean upon when we need it most. Psalm 78:72 ‘So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.’ As we un-package the year that lies ahead of us, let’s find the space to slow down and trust in the shepherding heart of God, who can ultimately provide for our deepest needs. Principal’s PenIn God’s CareWe have some pretty inspirational staff at Cornerstone, and as well as instructing your children, they have

opportunity to speak into the lives of the staff as a whole during our morning devotions. One message

last Friday was a great reminder for us all -parents, students and staff - as we face the traditional frenetic

start to the year.

One particular story hit home for many of us. It was an experience this particular teacher had relating

to her car. Whilst facing an extremely busy day with a number of pressing schedules to meet, her car

suddenly lost power. As she pulled over she discovered a subtle little light flashing on the dashboard that

announced that she had run out of fuel. The subtly of the warning had been missed in the busyness of

life. She had deadlines to meet and this was extremely inconvenient. After trying to call her husband and

friends, it appeared that nobody had access to their phones in her time of need.

As she sat by the side of the road she took the time to calm down and pray. After a short time she

suddenly saw the approach of a friend who happened to be driving past. She was able to gain their

attention and her situation was ultimately resolved.

The message in her heart from this event was that there are times when it is necessary to lean on a friend

– and at all times there is a friend we have in our loving Heavenly Father. A Father who can act and guide

beyond the human abilities we have. A Father who can send others our way and provide us someone to

lean upon when we need it most.

Psalm 78:72 ‘So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them by the

skilfulness of his hands.’

As we un-package the year that lies ahead of us, let’s find the space to slow down and trust in the

shepherding heart of God, who can ultimately provide for our deepest needs. That’s my prayer for you

as our families, and more broadly, for our community of Cornerstone.

CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE

Around the College

Cleaver’s ClangersIf you take a laptop computer for a run you could jog your memory. A bicycle can’t stand alone; it is two tired. In a democracy it’s your vote that counts; in feudalism, it’s your Count that votes.

Year 8 ImmunisationsParents of Year 8 students are reminded to get the immunisation forms back in as soon as possible. These should have gone home in the last few days and the school nurse requires them signed and returned as a matter of urgency. Thanks for your help!

Prayer LaunchWe have a wonderful tradition that will continue in 2015, and to which you are invited to. Early in the year, staff, members of the Christian community and families gather together to commit the coming year to God.This year’s prayer launch will be held on February 22nd, 6:30pm in the College Quadrangle. Please join us on this special night of commissioning.

New Family BBQOur annual New Family BBQ will be held on February 20th. Families who have commenced in 2015 and who have children in Year 1 to Year 12 should have received their invitation by now. If the mail appears to be lost, please let the front office know and they will rectify this as a matter of priority.

Looking into Books If any families still have book packs from the “Looking into Book” Program at home can you please return them. We have a number missing from the K - 2 classes. Thanks in anticipation!

Parent Helpers RequiredPartnership with parents is one of the strengths of Cornerstone, and if you

are looking for a way to invest in the education of your child, we have plenty of opportunities just waiting to be explored!Whether it is in the classroom, at a carnival, the canteen or the library, every offer of assistance is more than just welcomed, it’s essential. If you would like to know more, then please speak to your child’s teacher, or leave a message for Lynn Chapman in the front office and she will happily get back to you. Can’t wait to see you around the campus!

Newsletter DistributionWith a number of parents expressing concerns regarding the system of having the oldest child in a family being responsible for bringing home newsletters and family notifications, we have decided to trial a change.Effective immediately, the newsletter and family notes will be distributed to the youngest child in each home. Let’s see how it goes!

SignmeeWe are very aware of some teething problems that have occurred with the implementation of the signmee system, and thank parents for their patience. Once up and running it will prove to be a terrific means of communication - and we are almost there.Parents are reminded that all notes and permission documents will be sent home

via the Signmee system in 2015 and that the Parent Pack is now a thing of the past. Access to Signmee requires you to access your email. If you are finding you are not getting the notes you should be, then please let the front office know immediately. Also, if your email address has changed, then this requires urgent attention as well. Thanks for your help.

Parent HandbooksThe Parent Handbooks for 2015 are accessible via the signmee log in. When you next log in, you will see on the dashboard a section called ‘Grabmee’. There are two items under Cornerstone Christian College. These are the parent handbooks (Primary and Secondary). They are a PDF that you can view online or download if you prefer. If you are having problems with signmee access for the moment, you can also view them from the College website or via the College Facebook page. If really struggling with the electronic system, limited paper copies are available from the front office.

AbsencesDo you have a sick child and wonder what the process of advising absenteeism is?Well, it is simple. The front office is the place to contact, preferably by email. Please do not advise the class teacher as they may not have the opportunity to pass the information through to the admin team in time to fulfil our Duty of Care responsibilities. So email the ladies at [email protected], or call the front office on 9754 1144 before 9:30am.

iPad RolloutIt’s about to happen!Any day now, parents can expect a letter advising of the process of distribution of iPads to students. Effectively, what will happen is this:A series of workshops will be scheduled in the next two weeks, to which parents will be required to attend one, and the iPad will be issued to the parents. Parents will need to attend a workshop with their child (which is expected to last for about an hour and a half) and will include the actual set-up of restrictions on the iPads, as well as the establishing of I-Tunes accounts which will apply to the device.Parents will then take the devices home and supervise access to their children. We wish to apologise to parents of students in Years 5 and 6 for the mixed information about where iPads will be kept. As they belong to parents they need to go home daily and returned to school charged and ready to be used. The workshops will be designated by class, but should you be unable to attend the one allocated for you, can attend any of the alternative nights. Stay tuned for more information.

Year 7/8 CampThe Year 7 and Year 8 students have just returned from three days away at their annual camp.A great deal of fun has been had, as well as opportunities by staff and outside guests to speak into the lives of our students. As a finale, they made their way to the foreshore on Friday afternoon for some time in the sun by enjoying the inflatable playground hired for the occasion.Special thanks must go to the teachers who brought the students home safely after a wonderful time together. Also, to parents who assisted in a variety of ways, we very much appreciate you all!

Vital Keys to

Many parents are seeking ways to more effectively pray for their children. This one day seminar is designed to help them discern the roots of a child’s wound or illness.Areas discussed will include learned behaviour; generational issues; the child’s own sins; the sins of others against the child; accidents & trauma; physical conditions and fear – all of which can impact a child. Recurring behaviour patterns will also be examined. So too, self harm concerns; bed-wetting; bullying; etc. Often, when something is not right in a child, behavioural changes take place that demonstrate there is a concern. What to look for in these situations will be discussed, as will how to pray into the underlying issue. The various ways to minister and pray for restoration/healing in children will be unpacked, as will the necessity for intercessory protection for our children, including unborn children. This event will appeal to Christian parents and all those who desire to see the next generation become all they can be for God.

Water – Are you drinking enough?Water is essential to human health. A person can live for a month without food, but only a few days to a week without water. The most common cause of daytime fatigue is mild dehydration. Simply by drinking water headaches can be alleviated, digestion problems reduced, joint pain alleviated and your appetite can be regulated. Children need to drink at least 5 cups of water per day and adults at least 8 cups. More water is required before, during and after exercise. So each day pack a clean, fresh bottle of water into your bag and aim to finish it before the end of the school day.
