COLD WEATHER ALERT Please be sure your child comes to school prepared for outdoor recess. While there are occasional days students spend recess indoors, most days they are outside for a period of 25 minutes at lunchtime. We recommend that all students have appropriate outerwear. Students wearing snow pants and boots may be on the whole playground; students in boots without snow pants are restricted to the blacktop and playground equipment (at the discretion of the duty people); students with no snow pants and boots are restricted to only the blacktop; and students with no jacket will stay inside the gym on the bleachers. All students are expected to go outside for recess
Tooth Protectors, Inc.
We are excited to be able to provide preventative dental hygiene services to your child at school. Tooth Protectors Inc. (TPI) is a Maine based program; we have a team of licensed, registered dental hygienists who travel
throughout Maine providing much needed preventative dental services. We currently provide services at over 300 clinic sites across Maine.
We bring the dental office to you! Our dental clinic will be set up within your child’s school and they will be seen during school hours.
We provide preventative dental care such as: oral assessments, oral cancer screening, oral hygiene instruction, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants of molars and pre molars, temporary fillings and referrals.
All records are kept confidential and claims to your dental insurance will go directly through TPI per electronic transfer, not the school. TPI is compliant with HIPAA regulations, OSHA’s infection control and with the
Department of Education for Finger printing. We are dedicated to dental education as a means of prevention!
Dental forms were handed out to students at UES this week. If you did not receive a form or need another, please contact Allison in the office. Forms should be returned to the school by December 5th in order to schedule students efficiently. The dental clinic will be held on December 20th. Thank you!

Thank you Union FD UES students are learning about fire safety and about how to call 9-1-1 in case of emergency. On Oct. 25th, Union Firefighters presented fire safety lessons to all classes and showed them the purposes of equipment on fire trucks and ambulances. We thank them for giving half a day to help our children stay safe. Firefighters asked students to carry three messages home: •Be sure you have working smoke and fire detectors •Practice home escape routes and be sure everyone knows where to meet outside to make sure everyone got out safely. •Post 9-1-1 and other emergency numbers near the phone that children should use to call for help. Our thanks to Assistant Chief Kevin Soule, Firefighters Bob Boniewski and Nick Morrisette for their exciting presentation, and Jesse Thompson, EMT. Special thanks to Nikki Boniewski, Union FD Education Coordinator for organizing this event and getting the fire hats!
Toys for Tots Once again, Union Elementary School is participating in the Toys for Tots campaign. The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. Please consider donating to this worthy cause. The box will be here in the lobby until December 7th.
The Mynutrikids online payment system will be switching to a program called MySchoolBucks. Parents who use this system should be receiving a notice from Mynutrikids explaining the details. On November 30 the RSU 40 tech department will be doing what needs to be done before this transition can take place. During this time the Mynutrikids online payment system will be locked down for 48 hours. We apologize for any inconvenience. I would recommend that any payments made to your child's account be done so through the school from Nov. 29 until given a green light to use the MySchoolBucks system. Thank you for your patience and understanding. The new system should be even better than the one we are using now. This transition does not affect anyone who sends money to the schools. This only affects those who make payments to their child's lunch account online. If you have any questions, please feel free to call. Thanks, Storm Hendrickson Food Service Director S.A.D.# 40 (207) 785-2277 Ext. 241
