Heidelberg launches Prinect Inpress Control 2 – with faster set- up and reduced paper waste thanks to improved colour control The Prinect Inpress Control spectrophotometric inline colour measurement system from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has proved a great success all over the world. Al- ready installed on over a thousand Speedmaster presses, the system provides on-the-fly measurement and control of both colour and register. Heidelberg has now launched Prinect Inpress Control 2, featuring a faster measuring and control algorithm that substantially cuts makeready times and paper waste during setup. Initial users report further 10 to 20 % less paper waste and significantly increased productivity. Prinect Inpress Control 2 can be installed on Speedmaster presses in the XL 75, SX 102, CX 102, XL 106, XL 145, and XL 162 series. The system is ideal for industrial printers of short runs with frequent job changes who want to deliver quick, cost-effective, and high-quality results. Recent Speed- master presses already equipped with Prinect Inpress Control can be upgraded to the latest system. Fast setup for maximum productivity The Prinect Inpress Control 2 enhances spectral colour measurement and control and reduces paper waste during setup by a further 10 to 20 %. It activates this through more intelligent colour control and faster print control strip measurement at the start of the job. A further new feature is the automated register and quality measurement process, which removes the need for manual intervention. This ensures that quality measurements are not left out during production, but instead are displayed auto- matically and logged in quality reports. The all-new handheld spectrophotometer also offers printers significant benefits in usability. Wireless operation – if Bluetooth can be used – combines with a substantial increase in its range of functions. Alongside existing basic functions for Inpress Control 2 such as sample measurement, the device also supports all the functions expected of a handheld measuring instrument. If required, printers can still colour calibrate the device them- selves using the “Netprofiler” option. The new Prinect Inpress Control 2 system also makes it possible to measure metallized and transparent substrates with opaque white below the print control strip. This is particularly relevant to packaging and label printing, where the colour measuring system is proving to be an increasingly popular, cost-effective choice. Heidelberg spectrophotometric colour measuring systems are also especially useful in these sectors for measuring and control- ling spot colours. These can be derived directly from a colour sample or selected from the integrated spot colour database and controlled. Highly satisfied customers The Kliemo print shop in Eupen, Belgium, was one of the first print shops to install the new Prinect Inpress Control 2 system on a Speedmaster XL 106-10-P. “We are very satisfied with our experience of Inpress Control 2 so far and have already been able to cut waste paper by up to 50 sheets per setup,” says print manager Ralph Rodtheut. “Automated inline measuring has made very fast work of setting up many of our jobs. And the wireless handheld spectrophotometer with its expanded range of functions really does make life easier for printers. The inline quality measurements for dot gain, slurring, and doubling are now processed automatically as well. All the important measurement data is logged and saved as necessary. This is important for repeat jobs and quality assurance.” www.kliemo.be Technology at its finest Prinect Inpress Control 2 is an inline colour measuring system integrated into the final printing unit. For perfecting presses, an additional measuring system is installed in the printing unit before sheet reversal. The spectrophotometric measuring unit measures process colours, spot colours, and register in the print control strip at any speed. Measuring and controlling during production ensures both fast setup and high colour sta- bility across entire runs. The Speedmaster does not need to be stopped during setup or for monitoring during the production run. Thanks to easy operation via the Prinect Press Center and online ink zone adjustment at up to ten printing units in straight or perfecting printing, this is the ideal system for Speedmaster quality assurance. Speedmaster XL 75 Anicolor from Heidelberg now also available as a perfecting press with UV technology

Visitors to the Heidelberg Info Days “Profitable and efficient production of short runs” at the Wiesloch-Walldorf site enjoyed not one, but two world premieres. Held at the begin-ning of March, the event in Hall 6 showcased an eight-color Speedmaster XL 75 Anicolor perfector and a five-color Speed-master XL 75 Anicolor with coating unit and UV technology. In doing so, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) demonstrated two further configuration levels of its Anicolor technology for the cost-effective production of short runs. The Speedmaster SX 52 Anicolor has been available as a perfecting press since 2008 and as a UV press since 2010.

The Speedmaster XL 75 Anicolor celebrated its premiere at drupa 2012 and, since then, has proved its worth to com-mercial and, in particular, packaging printers. In small and medium formats, the zoneless Anicolor technology impresses with rapid inking-up that produces saleable sheets from the 20th print sheet onward. Users say it reduces waste by up to 90 percent and supports very short make-ready times.

Anicolor as a long perfecting press – extremely flexibleThe perfecting technology is the most productive process for printing jobs on both sides. Anicolor technology from Heidel-berg reduces waste and makeready times. The Speedmaster XL 75 Anicolor perfector now combines both advantages in a single press.

It is available for delivery immediately and the first presses have already been sold. The front and reverse sides are printed in a single pass, which greatly reduces delivery times. Thanks to the modular design of the Speedmaster XL 75 platform, customers can tailor their specific configuration to market ¬requirements and thus acquire an extremely flexible press. The Speedmaster XL 75 Anicolor covers a broad spec-trum, from a 4/4 press to a long perfector with coating and drying units. The Speedmaster XL 75 Anicolor is designed for customers in industrialized countries, although the long per-fecting presses are predominantly of interest to commercial printers keen to offer their customers a wide range of prod-ucts. However, the press will also impress packaging printers, as it is ideal for practical applications. If, for example, the inner side has to be printed with a spot color and, following sheet reversal, the outer side printed with six colors, this presents an interesting challenge for the production of folding cartons. In such scenarios, Anicolor technology can

reveal its full benefits with excellent full-area printing.

In addition to the Heidelberg Info Days, customers and other interested parties have the opportunity to see a Speedmaster XL 75 Anicolor 8-P in action in a range of presentations and demonstrations in Hall 6 at Wiesloch-Walldorf.

Anicolor and UV printing – versatile finishing effects and fast, cost-effective manufacturingOne in every four Speedmaster XL 75 machines from Heidel-berg is already supplied as a UV press. Consequently, UV technology is also being transferred to the Speedmaster XL 75 Anicolor. In-house trials are currently taking place with high-profile customers during the test phase at the Wiesloch-Walldorf site. The first deliveries are planned for the end of this year. The target groups here are commercial, packaging, and specialist printers, with the primary markets for UV being in Europe, the United States, and Japan.

UV presses can process absorbent and non-absorbent materials, which arrive in the delivery dry and can be passed to postpress immediately. The combination of Anicolor and UV generates less waste, thus resulting in major cost savings, particularly for print specialists working with ex-pensive materials such as films. Thanks to short makeready times and rapid deliveries, business models like web-to-print are also possible. In addition, UV printing is suitable for a range of finishing options, offering printers opportunities to set themselves apart from the competition and provide added value for their customers.

Customers and interested parties are invited to participate in application trials on the Speedmaster XL 75 -5+L withAnicolor and UV in Hall 6 at Wiesloch-Walldorf.

Profitable and efficient production of short runsDuring the Heidelberg Info Days, visitors gained an overview of which presses can be used to produce even the shortest runs cost-effectively. The event showcased a compre-hensive portfolio, including the Speedmaster SX 52 and XL 75 Anicolor models, and the digital printing systems Linoprint CP and Linoprint CV, which are suitable for new applications such as opaque white, varnish, and, of course, personalized print products. Combining offset technology with the digital printing systems offers immense potential.

As with all machines from Heidelberg, customers can request that Speedmaster XL 75 Anicolor presses are manufactured and delivered with carbon offsetting.

The Best Alternative to a New Heidelberg

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will be presenting an integrated portfolio of offset and digital print solutions for commercial and packaging printing at Gulf Print & Pack 2015, which is being held in Dubai from April 13 to 16. Prinect will incorporate the digital and offset printing systems on show and the associated prepress and postpress solutions into an integrated workflow. The commercial prin-ting presentation will focus on the regional launch of the new Linoprint CV and Linoprint CP digital printing systems from Heidelberg, which deliver enhanced flexibility, produc-tivity, and quality when printing short and/or personalized runs. Heidelberg will also be joining forces with the Gallus Group, which it took over completely last year, to provide details about trends in digital label production based on the inkjet technology of partner Fujifilm. Series production of the Gallus DCS 340 digital label press will start this year.

Region sees solid growth rates for print productsPrint products are in growing demand in the emerging markets and developing countries of the MENA region. For one thing, there are more consumer goods to be labeled and packaged. For another, there is a need for all kinds of adver-tising materials in the private sector and for security printing of documents and securities in the public sector. As a result, print shops in these markets are increasingly investing in cutting-edge technologies. New printing companies are also opening in this growth region.

“Like virtually all markets, the MENA region is seeing a sig-nificant trend towards digital printing,” says Harald Weimer, member of the Management Board responsible for sales and services at Heidelberg. “Our trade show presentation will therefore focus on using the Prinect print shop work-flow to integrate our offset and digital print solutions and on the resultant economic benefits for our customers. Our partnerships with Fujifilm and Ricoh are key in getting new and promising products ready for the market in the shortest possible space of time,” he adds.In addition to prepress, press, and postpress solutions from Heidelberg, visitors to the trade show will be able to find out about the company’s comprehensive range of services and sustainable consumables and see how they can improve a print shop’s performance and competitiveness.

Heidelberg presence underlines region’s importance to companyGulf Print & Pack is the number one trade show for the printing industry in the Middle East and North Africa region. The some 300 exhibitors expect to welcome around 10,000 visitors. The MENA region, along with China and Southeast Asia, is one of the world’s fastest-growing markets for print products. The presence of Heidelberg in this region dates back over 50 years. It now has independent agencies in all the various countries and a subsidiary in both the Gulf region and Saudi Arabia. There are over 400 specialists working for Heidelberg in the region, over half of them in service-based roles. The company is extremely well placed in the MENA region. “We’re the only manufacturer that is able to offer customers in this region an integrated portfolio of equipment, software, services, and consumables from a single source,” concludes Weimer.
