All is not lost! We will make mistakes, because we are human, and being human means that we all have choices about what we say, what we do, how we treat one another. The children get it! When they run into difficulty in the yard and hurt one another, with guidance they can come to understand that the choices they made were not good ones if that means that someone else is hurt physically or offended by their unkind words. When they work through these difficules with assistance, they are actually becoming reconciled and they are restoring their relaonship and building bridges. At present we have many families involved in the preparaon for the sacrament of Reconciliaon which will be celebrated next week. We ask you to keep them in your prayers. There are mes when we need to stop and reflect on what this means for us in our daily lives, and what it calls us to as disciples of Jesus for the world. Being a Chrisan is not just for ourselves; it is a calling to be part of a community that shares a common story, a vision of life, a set of values, and the opportunity to become more deeply involved in the mission of Jesus. How we go about doing this is important. Pope Francis urges us to be kind and thoughul to one another, to show mercy, understanding and forgiveness; no easy task! Being a faithful Chrisan is no soſt opon! Being a faithful Chrisan is more about being forgiven than not making any mistakes. While we aend to these everyday issues, we also need to keep in mind on a daily basis that we have much to be thankful for, and it is good for us to name those things and celebrate them. Doing this can actually build up the well-being of the community. While it is very near the end of term, and there are signs of everyone becoming red and looking forward to holidays, it has been heartening to meet with families this week in parent/teacher/child conversaons. We congratulate you on the fine ways in which you are working with us in partnership to provide the best learning opportunies for your children. This is a sign of hope for our community. We have heard teachers say this week that they love meeng with the parents of children in their class: they are able to share so much with you and come to a deeper understanding of your children and their learning needs. The children themselves are the best adversements for all the good learning they are experiencing. Even a casual glimpse into the classrooms will show you that we are on the move with our teaching and learning, and we are developing a mindset that is all about growth. This means that we are on the way with learning but not there yet. With this approach in mind, children and teachers are finding the process of teaching and learning a healthy balance of giving things a go and then seeking further support if necessary. Aſter this round of meengs, ask your children to tell you more about what they are learning: we believe that you will also become excited about the whole process! TERM 1 WEEK 10 - 6 APRIL 2016

News St Joseph’s From the Leadership Team

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

This week we continue to celebrate the wonderful feast of Easter. The Easter season is most significant to the Christian tradition

as it is a season of joy and gladness that celebrates the new life possible for us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.

This great mystery is at the heart of our faith and sheds light for us on how to continue to be true and faithful followers of Jesus.

This is what we are committed to as a Catholic school which belongs to a wonderful Catholic parish.

In this year of Mercy, Pope Francis reminds us that God is a God of boundless mercy and forgiveness. The

celebration of Easter is time for understanding that the death of Jesus was not the end of the story: The

Resurrection means that life has won through; good has overcome evil, and the Christian way of life is a

way of hope for a glorious future. All is not lost! We will make mistakes, because we are human, and being

human means that we all have choices about what we say, what we do, how we treat one another. The

children get it! When they run into difficulty in the yard and hurt one another, with guidance they can

come to understand that the choices they made were not good ones if that means that someone else is

hurt physically or offended by their unkind words. When they work through these difficulties with

assistance, they are actually becoming reconciled and they are restoring their relationship and building bridges. At present we

have many families involved in the preparation for the sacrament of Reconciliation which will be celebrated next week. We ask

you to keep them in your prayers.

There are times when we need to stop and reflect on what this means for us in our daily lives, and what it calls us to as disciples

of Jesus for the world. Being a Christian is not just for ourselves; it is a calling to be part of a community that shares a common

story, a vision of life, a set of values, and the opportunity to become more deeply involved in the mission of Jesus. How we go

about doing this is important. Pope Francis urges us to be kind and thoughtful to one another, to show mercy, understanding and

forgiveness; no easy task! Being a faithful Christian is no soft option! Being a faithful Christian

is more about being forgiven than not making any mistakes.

While we attend to these everyday issues, we also need to keep in mind on a daily

basis that we have much to be thankful for, and it is good for us to name those

things and celebrate them. Doing this can actually build up the well-being of the

community. While it is very near the end of term, and there are signs of everyone

becoming tired and looking forward to holidays, it has been heartening to meet with

families this week in parent/teacher/child conversations. We congratulate you on the

fine ways in which you are working with us in partnership to provide the best

learning opportunities for your children. This is a sign of hope for our community. We

have heard teachers say this week that they love meeting with the parents of

children in their class: they are able to share so much with you and come to a deeper

understanding of your children and their learning needs. The children themselves are

the best advertisements for all the good learning they are experiencing. Even a casual

glimpse into the classrooms will show you that we are on the move with our teaching

and learning, and we are developing a mindset that is all about growth. This means

that we are on the way with learning but not there yet. With this approach in mind,

children and teachers are finding the process of teaching and learning a healthy

balance of giving things a go and then seeking further support if necessary. After this

round of meetings, ask your children to tell you more about what they are learning:

we believe that you will also become excited about the whole process!

Today we had a most significant celebration as a whole school community. We always celebrate a school Mass after Easter and

today’s Mass was a wonderful celebration of our faith and hope, and also a wonderful way to acknowledge Mr. Jan Kielo as he takes

leave from the community he has served so faithfully and well over many years. This was a most fitting occasion and manner in which

to honour Mr. Kielo. He is a man of faith and integrity and has done much, in a very calm, dignified and honourable manner to support

all of the children in his care in the classroom and this has of course included the families of all those children. In giving thanks for

Mr. Kielo’s time at St. Joseph’s and in acknowledging his contribution to Catholic education in other places as well, we have wished

him well and assured him of our on-going affection and a remembrance in our prayers and good wishes as he moves into the next

part of his life journey.

On the subject of hope, here are some words of Pope Francis for all of us to think about today:

“God’s mercy is boundless. Whatever you are facing, God’s love is there to conquer it. Think about your own

personal trials and battles. Say yes to the love of God in each situation.”

As we move closer to the end of term, we wish you many blessings for your families, and we thank you for your

magnificent support, not only throughout this week, but across the term.

We wish you many blessings!

Highlights of the Week from Preschool

Term 1 Week 9 2016

The children’s love of the song and game “Five Hot

Cross Buns” inspired us to bake Hot Cross Muffins.

They were a tasty afternoon snack.

The children returned from their Easter break full of

excitement and stories to share.

We introduced the nursery rhyme Humpty

Dumpty to the children and a game where his

wall has to be built with blocks.

In the garden, the children

planted daffodil bulbs and went

for an autumn leaf hunt.

They used the

leaves to create

leaf collages.
