On the morning of Thursday the 1st of March, the Falcons class held a com-

munity event in school. Letters were posted to members of the community

inviting them to join the children for tea and cake. The children worked as

waiters, taking orders and serving food. They also performed instrumental

solos, read poetry from their topic on community and chatted at length with

the visitors about their experiences of the Kenninghall community. The event

finished with a whole class performance of “The White Cliffs of Dover”,

which the visitors spontaneously joined in with.

Last week the year 5 children went to Old Buckenham High school for a stem

day. The day was based around the theme of flight and included rocket build-

ing, making kites and demonstrations of exciting chemical reactions. The chil-

dren got a fantastic taster of what science can include.

World Book Day

NE WS ON T HE NI NT H

We celebrated World book day this year with an afternoon of book based

activities. The children in the Kingfishers class enjoyed reading stories to

the children in the Swans and Robins classes. The children in the Swans

class made book marks of their favourite book characters and the Robins

class snuggled down with hot chocolate to hear Miss Stimpson’s favourite

story.

A team of 10 Falcons went to the final for the South Norfolk Tag Rugby event. The

team showed great sportsmanship and came 4th in the competition. A team of children

also went to the Sportshall athletics final at the UEA. The children participated in ei-

ther a track or field event and the team came 5th. Many congratulations to both teams.

On Tuesday the 28th of February a tennis coach came into school. Every class had a

tennis lesson and the children very much enjoyed learning some basic tennis skills.

Cross Country events

Over the last couple of weeks the children in the Kingfishers and in the Falcons have

taken part in inter school cross country events. All the children have performed bril-

liantly and their behaviour and attitude at the events is a credit to themselves and

the school. The year 3 children ran 1000m in their event whilst the year 4 children

ran 1250m. Congratulations go to; Cerys, Louis and Miles who all came in the top 20

for their race. Congratulations also go to Katie and Angus from the Falcons class who

came in the top 10 in their races and will now compete in the county finals.

Celebrating Success We like to celebrate when children are working hard, helping each other or doing an-

ything that really makes them stand out. A child is chosen each week from each class

by their Teachers and TAs for the Special Mention

If a child produces an exceptional piece of work then their teacher can send them to

Mr Nixon for a Headteachers’ Award and their name is written in The Silver Book.

As you can see we have had a lot of success to celebrate!

1 March 2012

The Friends are disappointed to announce that this year’s Easter Bingo has been cancelled.

As many of you will know the Village Hall will soon to be out of bounds and we feel that we could not do this event justice at a new venue. We have had a very successful fund raiser with the ‘Quiz ‘n’

Chilli’ night and we are very grateful for all the support it attracted and raised a good amount of money for the school.

Instead of the bingo we will be holding an Easter Egg Hunt on Monday 9th April (Easter Monday)

around the Millennium Wood, starting at the top of Red Lion Lane, from 2pm. This is for primary school children and younger, and entry is 50p.

Also we plan to hold a ‘Jubilee Bingo’ around the time of the Jubilee celebrations, more details to fol-low nearer the time.

We would be grateful for any donations of Easter eggs for prizes, to be brought up to the school by Friday 30

th March.

Meet the Species Meet the Species is part of Discovering Places, the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad

Campaign to inspire the UK to discover their local environment. The project en-

courages people to get involved in the identifying and surveying of different spe-

cies and, as it is 'London 2012', the aim is to record 2012 different species! As

part of the project there are loads of opportunities to visit different areas within

Breckland and contribute to this nationwide big species hunt. For more information

The Swans class very much enjoyed their trip to Norwich Castle. On their re-

turn to school they made models of castles and medieval war equipment.

The Kingfishers class decided to go on a walk around Kenninghall as they in-

vestigated their local area. They also designed and made games to play with

the Swans. The new date for their trip to the coast is Thursday the 22nd of

March.

The Robins have been carrying on with their

topic explorers. They have been finding out

all about the animals that live in in the rain-

forests and have made explorer packs to

help them on their adventures.

The Falcons class has been busy answering

their topic question: “What makes a commu-

nity?”. They have made links with Stag Lane

Primary School in London and have been exchanging letters and e-mails with

their new pen friends.
