It is always a pleasure to release another edition of the Colour News.

The General Elections are round the corner. However, for no reason the industry has slipped into slow motion in last 2-3 months. The industry witnessed two major economic reforms, which did shake up the businesses. The industry cannot afford to have slowed down. We sincerely hope there is stable Government at the Centre and strong leadership to take the country to greater heights. However, irrespective of the Government, the Indian Industry has the history of bouncing back. The Colour industry, mainly the paints, printing & packaging and textile will show remarkable growth this fiscal. If there is normal monsoon, things would be much better. Let us look at it from positive angle.

AGS has added yet another principal in its list – SHCC – Shanghai ChaoChang Techpack Machinery – a Chinese printing machinery manufacturer. SHCC manufactures exclusive printing machines for corrugated industry. It is the industry AGS wanted to foray into it and now with SHCC gives AGS an opportunity to service the Corrugated Industry.

In this issue, you will read about AOKE, our other Chinese partner involved in sample making machines. There has been good business growth for this product and the customers are happy about the machines from the both, quality and the price. We have covered in detail about AOKE products in this issue.

After-sales service is a thankless job. However, AGS is recognised in the industry as the best service provider. AGS Service is the back-bone of AGS businesses across the board. I have tried to brief our readers about the AGS Service and how we handle it.

We had briefed our readers about the breakthrough in the Denim industry by installation of the first in-line spectrophotometer at Arvind Mills. We were specially invited by X-Rite to make a presentation on this success story. AGS subsequently received 2 repeat orders from Arvind Mills.

AGS participated in many trade shows at local level to expand its reach in the other parts of the country.

You will read about the new products and success stories in this issue. I am sure you will enjoy reading this issue.

COVER STORY AOKE SAMPLE MAKER MACHINE

The machine has a simple technique of working.

The input file is a DXF file that can be produced

through Corel Draw or any other AUTOCAD

software. This file has all the key line information

of the design file that needs to be cut. This file

is then imported into the digital cutter’s control

software from where it is transferred to the

machine for actual cutting. If the file to be cut is

a pre-printed one, then the DXF file should also

have the cross marks so that same can be matched

with the actual print to cut the exact image from

the sheet with 100% accuracy. There are laser

registration systems and camera systems to do

this.

The machines are capable of doing operations

like cutting, creasing, half-cutting (kiss-cutting)

HOW DOES IT WORK??

HIGHSPEED &ACCURACY

I t is not that the sample maker machines were not available earlier in the Indian market. These were available but most were European make. Further, these European machines were so expensive that only very large companies could afford it and the smaller companies were totally dependent on manual working. This hampered smaller companies’ ability to cater to large orders. Understanding this need, AGS identified AOKE—a Chinese manufacturer and launched AOKE Sample Making machine in 2014. With AOKE Sample Cutting Machine, the small and medium companies are now able to cater to large orders and earn huge profits.

AOKE has a range of sample making solutions right from a very basic entry-level model to a very high-end one. Depending on the model chosen, the machines are capable to cut materials ranging from a 100 gsm paper to a 50 mm honeycomb board. These machines are aimed at different segments including packaging, digital printing, large format printing, corrugation, gaskets and rubber among others. Like with all other products in AGS portfolio, we offers installation support, training and most importantly, after-sales support. Thus, no wonder that within just 4.5 years, AGS has been able to install 75+ machines.

AOKE is a 20-year old Shanghai-based company making Sample Makers. It is probably one of the 1st companies in China to start making Sample Makers. AOKE has its manufacturing unit in Shanghai and office in Dongguan from where it caters to the entire world market including India.

AOKE Sample Maker is a simple digital cutting table for making mock-up samples for materials like paperboard, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, corrugated board and leather and for cutting offset blankets. The Sample Maker comes in several variants based on the requirement. These variants can handle materials as thin as 2 mm to as thick as 50 mm. The AOKE Sample Maker can be coupled with a router to cut harder materials like acrylic and MDB boards.

6

and drawing. They have various tools like the V

Grooving, Foam Cutting etc. There are basically

four models which are most popularly sold in the

market:

1.DCE Model cutting up to 2 mm thick materials

2.DCZ 70 cutting up to 15 mm thick materials 3.DCZ 73/76 cutting up to 30mm and 50 mm thick

materials. This model can also be fitted with a

router system to cut hard materials like Acrylics

4.DCF 60/73 Model which only has a cutting

tool for the industries where there is no creasing

needed like the gasket industry

With these machines, the journey of AGS with

AOKE started in April, 2014 when AGS sold the 1st

machine to Navneet Education, Khaniwade. This

installation built a lot of confidence in AGS and

then there was no looking back. Gradually,

AGS got full support from the industry. Today,

AGS has an installation base of about 75+

machines in the market and the number is

increasing on a fast pace. At present, most of

the companies which bought these machines

are doing some or other design and sampling

jobs.

The AOKE Sample Making machine and

software is very easy to use. AGS provides

complete training to the users for a period

ranging from two to five days depending on

the learning curve of the company. What

more? AGS provides help and assistance to

the customers as and when required.

AGS Colour News March 2019

AGS takes the responsibility right from the ordering stage to site inspection and providing pre-site requirements.

AGS helps in the installation and commissioning of the machine and provides training to the users on the

software and machine. AGS also provides warranty and post-warranty AMC support for the machines including

the need of consumables.

The weight of the machines varies from 250kg for an entry-level to more than 1000 kg. The price starts from

Rs 6lakh onwards.

The major thing that goes in favour of AOKE Sample Making machine is that it has made digital cutting

affordable for the industry. The machine produces high-quality results and this is backed by the service support

of AGS. AGS stocks most of the machine spares and consumables and deploys its engineers across the country

to provide service and support for the machine. This is the biggest USP of AOKE Sample Maker.

The customers using AOKE Sample Maker include packaging printers, digital printers and corrugators. Some

of the key names include Rich Print, Award Offset, Velpack, Kalapi, Printmann, Dhingra Graphics & Packaging,

R-Pac, SagarColor Pack, Perfect Packaging (Vasai), Perfect Packaging (Dahisar) and PM Digital among others.

Overall, AOKE Sample Maker promises to cater to all the requirement of sample making companies and is very

more economical and affordable as against its counterparts.

SUCCESS STORIES

Arvind Mills, India Success Story and X-Rite In-Line Seminar, Munich, GermanyX-Rite In-Line Business Group based in Munich, Germany organised a two-day seminar in Ismania, Munich on October 7-8, 2018. It specially invited AGS to speak on the success story of Arvind Mills, India. Arvind Mills is the first textile company to have installed In-Line ERX 130 system at its Denim Plant. It was not only the first system in denim industry in India but in the world which is predominantly a stronghold of HunterLab market. AGS was able to break the jinx by first replacing HunterLab bench-top spectrophotometers by X-rite C i7860 and with continuous follow-up for In-Line succeeded in getting the first order for ERX 130 in their Slasher Plant after 3 months’ rigorous trials. Arvind Mills requested a few additions in the software which were done promptly. Arvind Mills subsequently released two more orders for its other plants. Rajesh Shah made the presentation to the delegates arrived from various countries on the Arvind Mills success story.

AGS SERVICE SUPPORT

In the increasingly competitive business scenario, customer satisfaction is the key to success. One can make a great product but if it is not supported by equally prompt and reliable service support, the customer will never appreciate the product. In fact, in such a case, they would not only start searching for other suppliers or vendors but also start spreading a negative word in the market regarding the product and the support. This can certainly impact the overall business growth and later on whatever you do, you would never be able to clean your record and image.

Understanding the importance of great product service right from its inception, AGS made it a point to build the entire business around the service network. In fact, AGS has set a very robust and system-driven support service system with a clear intent to provide timely and quality service to its customers.

The customer support department of AGS listens and understands the needs and expectations of all its customers. This helps the company in improving its service standards for continually surpassing the customers’ expectations. It is the constant endeavour of the company to bring in the best products backed up by best-in-class service. This philosophy of the company has proved to be very fruitful. Significant portion of AGS business comes from its existing customers with repeat orders which is mainly due to customer satisfaction on account of service support. AGS can proudly state that its service support is the backbone of its business growth. AGS promises to serve its customer with great passion and interest for years to come. AGS is extremely thankful to its customers for their association, trust and confidence.

Service support is a thankless job and the service engineer hardly gets a word of praise from the customer. However, this is not true for AGS engineers who are either handling over 54000 paint/colour dispensers or more than 2500 colour systems and light booths. From Srinagar to Kanyakumari or from Porbandar to Guwahati, let it be a dispenser call or colour system call, AGS engineer is present everywhere to provide prompt, swift and professional service support so that a customer is able use the system uninterruptedly. The engineers carry out their work silently in the background without making any noise.

THE BACKBONE OF AGS COLOUR BUSINESS

12

Today whatever AGS is, it is totally due to the service support engineers. There are separate service engineers team for individual verticals. Color has two verticals-one is the paint dispenserand the other for color products. There is an independent team of 17 engineers and for CST and Nova products there is a team of 6 engineers. There is also a team of application engineers which provides round-the-clock application support and software training, so that the end-user is able to use the system to its best and get the desired or planned results. Basically, the service engineers and application engineers are the backbone of AGS Colour Business.

As mentioned above, for colour business, the service engineers are divided into three teams– one team for dispenser business, another team for X-rite colour systems, Copower, Hang Jie, Digital Information and other DI principals and the third one for CST engravers and Stripping machines from Nova Technologies.

The Help Desk is the heart and soul of AGS service and support activities. The Help Desk operates 24x7 and on all 365 days. It is rightly addressed as ‘Command Centre’. There are over 300 operators working in three shifts. The service call handling procedure is well-defined and very well laid out. We will cover the service engineers’ team handling X-rite colour systems, Copower, Hang Jie and other DI products. The working of the other teams will be covered in subsequent issues. The procedure is as follows:

AGS SERVICE SUPPORT SERVICE CALL HANDLING PROCESSTEAM HANDLING X-RITE & OTHER LAB PRODUCTS

Call login and execution There is a special Toll Free number: 1800-2090-247 as well as E-mail ID: [email protected] / [email protected]

1.Customer himself and/or through his official representative (Call Centre, Sales Executive etc.) logs the call at AGS Help Desk.2.AGS Help Desk executives record all necessary details pertaining to the complaint in automated call management software.3.After successful registration of the complaint, Help Desk executives provide unique Call ID (Ticket ID) to the customer. This ID is then attached to specific SLA and TAT norms depending on the call and customer category.4.This Call ID is used in all future communications and feedbacks for any particular complaint.5.Once the call is registered on the Help Desk system, it gets directed to the respective field engineer while keeping his reporting manager in loop.

Call Attendance After receiving the call, engineers contact the respective customer over phone to understand the actual problem. If possible, they try to solve the complaint online to avoid unnecessary travelling and downtime of the system. In case the complaint remains open even after the online support, engineers prepare for a schedule to visit the site and attend the complaint in person. If visit is required, then the engineers carry necessary spares. After attending the complaint, engineers update the current status to the Help Desk and their reporting manager.

After getting feedback from the engineer, concerned reporting manager and Help Desk coordinate with each other and involve other verticals into the discussion in case extra resources (TRC for spare requirements etc.) are needed to close the call. This process continues till required resources are acquired by the concerned engineer. Then, the engineer again visits the site and closes the complaint by doing necessary repairs/spare replacements.

The above process is repeated in case of any other requirement and until the operating unit is made live and is in working condition.

1 2

14

HELP

The Help Desk handles over 90% service calls received directly. The rest 10% are reported to the Service Desk or sales/service engineers. Every call is reported to the Help Desk for generating call Ticket ID. Without the Ticket ID, the engineers’ travel expenses are not cleared.

Help Desk details give the history of each instrument since the date of installation. This history helps AGS to understand the instrument status and enable future planning for services as well as spares. Many such case histories help AGS to improve its services and plan for the advanced corrective actions.

There are three Service Centres of AGS– Navi Mumbai, Tirupur and Delhi. In addition, there are resident engineers in Bangalore, Chennai, Surat and Ludhiana. All engineers are mapped geographically and they are aware of the history of every instrument they handle. Most engineers are trained on AGS principals on regular basis to provide them basic as well as advanced training.

Call Closure Once the complaint is resolved, engineer fills service report and informs the same to the AGS Help Desk. AGS Help Desk in turn, updates this to the concerned customer representative over phone and/or email. This completes the lifecycle of an issued Ticket ID.

The analysis of the calls done at regular intervals provides wealth of information which in turn helps AGS in taking corrective actions to improve the service levels. This information is shared with the customers when demanded. The escalation matrix is also well-defined. The calls unresolved beyond 72 hours are reported at senior management level.

Application Support AGS specialises in providing application support which is also a part of after-sales service. Customers are provided training in operations as well as application support. AGS does not believe in mechanical operation of the system. Thus, AGS provides complete training which includes basic theory, application and software training. There is a team of three specialists who together take care of textiles, paints, plastics, automobiles and printing and packaging. Like our sales team, the specialists are textile and paint technologists. Two of the DI specialists at AGS are UGRA-certified and have completed Pantone Live Training course.

PM Service Handling ProcessPM (Preventive Maintenance) Service is handled the same way as the service calls except they are logged in bulk and are attended in a periodic manner. This period may be defined as monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly depending on the customer instrument type and contract terms.

INDIA CORRUGATED SHOW, MUMBAI ‘India Corr Expo’ is India’s only dedicated corrugated

packaging event. AGS participated in the event for the

first time. The event was held at Mumbai Exhibition

Centre in October 2018. AGS received good response

at the event and was able to generate good sales

leads from the show, specifically from the corrugation

industry for its products AOKE and SHCC.

GTTES, MUMBAI GTTES is organised by India-ITME Society which also

organises ITME Show held once in four years. As four

years’ gap is a huge one for the developments of the

industry to be showcased, the Society organises GTTES

within two years. The scale of GTTES is a bit smaller than

the ITME Show but its success is no less. This was the

2nd edition of the show and it got fairly good response.

PRINTWEEK 2019: IT’S ALL HAPPENING AT AGSThe Aoke sample maker has crossed the 80 installation mark since it

was launched in 2014, with four more orders at the show; the Digital

Information’s Inkzone notches four orders; Exact Auto Scan gets India

debut at PrintPack — it’s all happening at the

Advanced Graphic Systems (AGS) stand at PrintPack India 2019.

So, what’s driving the Aoke’s popularity? “We always believed that there

was a void in what a customer wanted and what was available in the

market. We realised the gap, studied the market need and introduced

the Aoke sample maker in the market in 2014,” said Vishnuu Kamat,

senior VP for sales at AGS.

He added, “The Aoke was a placed at a perfect price range, not too low

nor too high, one which the market can accept, but with guaranteed

quality that printers look out for what AGS sells in the market.”

AGS specialises in colour management, colour instruments and allied

machinery.

Kamat said, “Today AGS is a brand in itself, a brand which sells quality

products, which they can rely on, and our biggest core competence is

our service, with three in North, three South and about six in West.”

The first Aoke was sold in April 2014 and is still running. “Yes, it’s

running like a rock. That’s the testimony for the quality of the product.

The industry stalwarts believed in us, even when we did not have

a machine in the Indian market, and here we are today, with 80+

installations of the Aoke pan India, right from Sivakasi to Baddi.”

At the show, AGS has introduced the X-Rite’s latest Exact Autoscan,

a handheld densitometer cum spectrodensitometer. “There was a

demand from the market that this device needs to be put on a track, so

that people find value in buying this product. It can act as a handheld

instrument as well as can go on the motorised track and converted into

a scan mode.”

The Exact Auto Scan can measure colour with a spot, manual and has

automated scanning capabilities. With the push of a button, the Exact

Auto-Scan minimises human error when scanning to maximise speed,

reduce rework, and deliver a finished product that meets the tight

tolerances customers require.

Kamat said, “It can measure all patches of a colour bar in under 15secs,

reducing the makeready times by 30% compared to manual scans. It

improves operational productivity and efficiencies.”

Kamat concluded by informing that while the Tech4 Check software

was doing well in the Indian market, it’s other CIP and ink pre-setting

system from Digital Information, Inkzone has picked up four orders at

the show.

Thus, to borrow a phrase from cricket commentator Tony Greig, we can

say, it’s all happening at the AGS.
