The accident killed seven people on the spot, including his wife Heri Listyawati and envoys from the Philippines and Norway. The envoys were part of a large group of foreign dignitaries being ferried to the inauguration of a ski resort chairlift in the town of Naltar. Pakistani government nominated its High Commissioner in Singapore to travel with the body of the late Ambassador to his hometown in Indonesia. Expressing deep grief and sorrow over the death of the Ambassador, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lauded Muhammad’s role in promoting friendly relations between the two countries. President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo expressed deep sorrow on the passing of Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan, Burhan Muhammad. The body was taken to the family home where he was buried with full military honours. Pakistan High Commissioner to Singapore H.E. Tanveer Khaskheli and Pakistan Charge d’ Affairs to Indonesia, Syed Zahid Raza, represented government of Pakistan at the funeral. Earlier, Minister of Defence Production, Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussein brought the dead body of Mrs. Heri Listyawati and handed it to Indonesian Foreign Minister in Yogyakarta. The Pakistan government awarded the "Sitara-e-Pakistan" medal to late Burhan Muhammad and Mrs. Listyawati Burhan for their contribution to fostering bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Pakistan. Death of Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan, Burhan Muhammad and His Wife in Pakistan Helicopter Crash

Indonesian ambassador to Pakistan Burhan Muhammad died at the Singapore General Hospital on 19th May 2015, 11 days after the Pakistani military helicopter he was travelling on crashed in the mountains of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan on May 8. The accident killed seven people on the spot, including his wife Heri Listyawati and envoys from the Philippines and Norway. Pakistan Charge d’ Affaires Interview with Media

Syed Zahid Raza, Pakistan Charge d’ Affairs to Indonesia gave interview to monthly Indonesian Magazine called Islamic Digest, describing Pakistan customs in Ramadhan and Eidul Fitr. The interview has been published in special issue on Ramadhan.

Overview of Bilateral Trade

After crossing US $ 2 Billion mark in 2014 for the first time, bilateral trade is showing increasing trend in 2015. Pakistan exports have increased by 19.3 % to US $ 64.852 million in Jan-April 2015 when compared to US $ 54.315 million in Jan- April 2014. The exports of salt, sea food, man-made filaments and staple fibers, articles of apparel accessories, yarn, textile made ups, copper waste, broken rice, residue from food industry and cotton fabrics have increased when compared to corresponding period of last year. Whereas, imports from Indonesia are increased by 6% in same period and total bilateral trade increased by 7.1% in first 4 months of 2015.

“My Karachi” was held from 11-15th April 2015 at Karachi Expo Center in which Indonesian companies exhibited their products including cosmetics, confectionary, food items, auto parts etc. Indonesia also participated in LDFA Expo 2015 on 30-31 May at Karachi Expo Center.

Asian-African Conference 2015

Jakarta and had detailed meeting with all officers to discuss various aspects of bilateral relations. Two parliamentarians from Pakistan, Mr. Tahir Bashir Cheema, MNA and Ms. Nighat Parveen, MNA also attended parliamentary session of AAC 2015.

The Asian African Summit was held on 22-23 April 2015 at Jakarta, Indonesia. It was attended by 91 Asian and African countries, 15 observers, and 10 international organizations. Among the participants were 21 heads of state/government of Asian and African countries, including Indonesian President. Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sartaj Aziz represented Pakistan at the Conference, Mr. Amjad B. Sial Special Secretary, led the delegation at the Ministerial Meeting on 20thApril and Director General (UN) headed the SOM.

In his statement, the Adviser drew the attention of participants towards the right of self determination of Kashmiri people. He also called to reinvigorate Bandung Spirit to improve lives of peoples of Asia and Africa. President of Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo addressed the opening session on 22nd April. Outcome of the conference was 3 documents; Declaration on Reinvigorating the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP), Declaration on Palestine and Bandung Message 2015. Other Economic Activities

i). Mr. Arshad Mahmood, Chairman FPCCI Committee on Banking and Financial Services visited Jakarta from 4-6th April 2015 to look into prospects of cooperation in Islamic Banking. The Commercial Section arranged his meeting with Financial Service Authority (OJK) of Indonesia and other financial experts. ii). Two delegates of Indus Pharma, Karachi visited Jakarta from 21st to 24th May 2015, and their meetings were arranged with Indonesian pharmaceutical companies. iii). The delegates from Sea Trade Group, Karachi visited Jakarta from 3-6th June 2015 and their meetings were arranged with wheat and corn importers, animal feed millers.

Participation in 11th AITIS 2015

The Association of Indonesian Local Governments and Regions (APKASI), Indonesia organized International Trade and Investment Summit (AITIS) from 13-15th May The organizers provided stall to Pakistan Embassy and eight other embassies as part of international cooperation program of APKASI. The Commercial Section displayed and distributed CDs provided by the Board of Investment titled “Investment Opportunities in Pakistan”, and brochures of various Pakistani companies exporting Kinnow, Mango, Surgical Instruments, Leather, textiles,

sports goods etc. and handicrafts, truck art items, basmati. The biggest attraction on Pakistan stall was free sampling of kinnow. Indonesian as well as foreigners appreciated taste of Pakistan kinnow.

Visit of Pakistan Business Delegation to Indonesia to Attend Asian African Business Summit 2015

A 21 member business delegation of Pakistan led by Muhammad Waseem Vohra, Vice President, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry visited Indonesia from 19-23rd April 2015 to participate and represent Pakistan Business community in Asian African Business Summit 2015 on the invitation of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia). Muhammad Waseem Vohra, made a presentation on trade and investment opportunities in Pakistan in Session on Investment,

during the summit, addressed the press and signed declaration on the establishment of “Asia Africa Business Council” on behalf of Pakistan Business Community. Pakistan delegates were interviewed by Indonesian Press, and had B2B meetings with Jakarta Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The delegates from Sheikhupura Chamber and Vice President FPCCI also visited INATEX 2015 on 23rd April and had B2B meetings with Indonesian textile companies. The Asian-African Business Summit was attended by 600 businessmen including 400 from 34 foreigncountries and 200 from Indonesia along with government officials from various countries.

Visit of NDU Delegation to RI

An 18-member group of officers, comprising faculty members, Pakistani student officers and foreign student officers from National Defence University, Islamabad, led by Cdre Shahid Sohail Rao, SI(M), visited Indonesia from 24th April to 1st of May 2015. Briefings were arranged at Indonesian Ministry of Defence, National Resilience Institute, Indonesian National Defence Forces Headquarters and Embassy of Pakistan.

Obituary of Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan, late Burhan Muhammad “What a loss for Indonesia,

Pakistan and for friends like me who got to know him well and had so much admiration and fondness for him. Late Ambassador Burhan as we know was a unique and rich character, one who could serve as a role model for many other diplomats and leaders in Indonesia.” Julia Suryakusuma, Columnist, The Jakarta Post

The late Ambassador Burhan Muhammad was born in Yogyakarta on August 3, 1957. After obtaining his degree in International Relations in 1983, he began building his career in the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) and became the Deputy of Foreign Affairs and Deputy of Analysis in the Agency until 2012. He obtained his Master’s degree in International Relations in 1993 from the University of Pittsburgh, United States. He was appointed as Indonesian Ambassador for Pakistan on 17 November 2012. He played significant role in enhancing bilateral relations by facilitating economic cooperation such as; Operationalization of Indonesia - Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement in September 2013, signing of Mutual Recognition Agreement on plant quarantine in August 2013, the revitalization of Pakistan – Indonesia Business Council and Forum, signing of MoU of cooperation between FPPCI and KADIN Indonesia in November 2012, MoU between KCCI and KADIN Jakarta in October 2013, MoU between LCCI and KADIN Jakarta in August 2014 to strengthen Indonesia and Pakistan business communities. He also facilitated in ratification of Indonesia-Pakistan Defence Cooperation Agreement. He tried to bring people of the two countries closer, through various programs & cultural activities.
