1 Term 4 Week 6 12 th November, 2013 Last week, we were lucky enough to have some special visitors to our school. The pre-schoolers from the Jim Lynch Child Care Centre came to have a look at our school! They were very excited to see what goes on at school as many of them will be starting Kindergarten next year. We went for a walk around the school and looked at the Library, the Canteen and the office. We also spent some time in the Kindergarten room, having a turn at the activities on the Interactive Whiteboard. It was great to see the children so enthusiastic about being at ‘big school’. We look forward to seeing them soon at our Kindergarten Orientation sessions and we are extremely excited about welcoming them to Kindergarten in 2014!! Stop the Press!!! We are so excited to announce that the Rooty Hill Debating team has won the pool final in the R.A Pickles Shield Debating competition for 2013! This is the second year in a row we have won this prestigious shield, which will hang proudly in our school foyer for another 12 months. The team, consisting of Maja Zlomislic as first speaker, Georgia Simpson as second speaker, Sediqa Rezaei as third speaker and Emily Stirk as the fourth team member, convincingly argued that ‘Meadows are better than Streets’. We were the negative team and Eastern Creek were the affirmative team for this debate. Our girls spoke with fantastic enthusiasm and presented our case with much conviction. We are so proud of each and every team member, including our amazing researchers Divina Ambat and Emily Rough who assisted greatly in preparation for this debate. As we have progressed through the rounds undefeated, we gained automatic entry into the Grand Final Championship which will be held towards the end of this term. Lethbridge Park and St Clair will now debate against each other to determine who will come up against us in the grand final. The girls have done an amazing job to reach this far and we will now begin our preparations for the very exciting Grand Final! I’m sure you will join us in congratulating them for their outstanding achievement and wishing them all the very best for their last debate! Term 4 Week 6 12th November, 2013

Last week, we were lucky enough to have some special visitors to our school. The pre-schoolers from the Jim Lynch Child Care Centre came to have a look at our school! They were very excited to see what goes on at school as many of them will be starting Kindergarten next year. We went for a walk around the school and looked at the Library, the Canteen and the office. The Newcombe Ball A and B teams have almost come to the end of their playing season and have thoroughly enjoyed learning new skills, making new friends and playing competitively against a variety of other local schools. Although we are not in contention for semi-finals, all the boys and girls have been playing to the best of their ability. Two weeks ago, the Newcombe Ball Bs

had their first win (even with 2 less players) against Mt Druitt, 2 sets to 1. I am very proud of all children involved in this game, as they dug deep to come away with the win. Last Friday both teams started their respective games, but, due to the extreme heat only managed to complete 2 of the 3 sets. The Newcombe Ball Bs were unfortunately sitting at 2 sets to love down, however, showed great skills and tremendous heart to continue to give their best in the heat. The Newcombe Ball As were tied at 1 set all, however, were unable to continue to the deciding set after games were called off. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful group of children who make up both teams for all of their effort and great sportsmanship throughout the season. Although we will not progress any further, all children have improved greatly and have had FUN in the process. Congratulations boys and girls.
