Once more, I offer a hearelt thank you to all families for your efforts through- out the Learning@Homephase of this term and to all families who had the courage to discuss any barriers faced along the way. Through that honest and open communicaon, we were able to work together to overcome any obsta- cles and get closer to meeng our goals. An excellent example of what can be achieved when we work as a team. The staff have worked relessly throughout the pandemic and have put aside personal concerns to be creave, logical, professional and most of all, excep- onally caring in regards to your child and their learning. Whilst it may be said that we get paid to do the job, your schools staff have gone above and be- yond, giving up countless hours of holiday me and weekends in an effort to provide the best for your child. I cannot be more proud of this enre school community. Since the studentsreturn to class (two weeks earlier than most schools), the staff have noted a decline in work standards, which was completely expected as students have not had the usual rounes and expectaons. Our work now is to ensure that all students meet the systemic expectaons by the end of the year. To achieve this goal, we need your support in two ways. The first is en- suring your child is aending school as much as possible. If a child is absent from school, they cannot be taught. One day a week works out to be eight enre weeks of school missed EACH YEAR, one day per fortnight is an enre month of school missed. This is not enough, especially when we look at how much school has been missed this year due to the pandemic. Secondly, home- work is sent home to support your childs learning and to inform households about the work that your child is doing in class. Please ensure that your child is compleng all of their homework each night. To inform you of how your child is travelling in their educaonal journey, re- port cards will be sent home in the final week of this term. This report card will be quite different to the norm, as is to be expected aſter a less than nor- malsemester. More informaon will be shared with households over the coming weeks. Tuesday 2nd June 2020 - Term 2 Week 7

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to term two, again….

Once more, I offer a heartfelt thank you to all families for your efforts through-out the ‘Learning@Home’ phase of this term and to all families who had the courage to discuss any barriers faced along the way. Through that honest and open communication, we were able to work together to overcome any obsta-cles and get closer to meeting our goals. An excellent example of what can be achieved when we work as a team.

The staff have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic and have put aside personal concerns to be creative, logical, professional and most of all, excep-tionally caring in regards to your child and their learning. Whilst it may be said that we get paid to do the job, your school’s staff have gone above and be-yond, giving up countless hours of holiday time and weekends in an effort to provide the best for your child. I cannot be more proud of this entire school community.

Since the students’ return to class (two weeks earlier than most schools), the staff have noted a decline in work standards, which was completely expected as students have not had the usual routines and expectations. Our work now is to ensure that all students meet the systemic expectations by the end of the year. To achieve this goal, we need your support in two ways. The first is en-suring your child is attending school as much as possible. If a child is absent from school, they cannot be taught. One day a week works out to be eight entire weeks of school missed EACH YEAR, one day per fortnight is an entire month of school missed. This is not enough, especially when we look at how much school has been missed this year due to the pandemic. Secondly, home-work is sent home to support your child’s learning and to inform households about the work that your child is doing in class. Please ensure that your child is completing all of their homework each night.

To inform you of how your child is travelling in their educational journey, re-port cards will be sent home in the final week of this term. This report card will be quite different to the norm, as is to be expected after a ‘less than nor-mal’ semester. More information will be shared with households over the coming weeks.

Finally, our school has received targeted funding for the refurbishment of A block through the Department of Edu-

cation’s Infrastructure Investment Portfolio. This work will see posts replaced, roofing replaced and repaired and a

full external paint of the targeted areas. It is a fantastic boost for our school and truly appreciated. With this work

comes some changes. Until the work is complete, barriers will be erected to ensure the safety of all students and

staff. The double gates at the pickup area, which are required to be left clear for student safety and emergency

services access at all times, must be left clear as the contractors will use this area. Please ensure you do not park

in this area.

Four weeks of the term left folks, let’s work together to make them count!

Regards,

Cameron Wedgwood - Principal

At eleven o’clock on Wednesday, the 27th of May 2020, schools across Queensland read

“Whitney and Britney: Chicken Divas” for National Simultaneous Storytime. It was a story

about two chickens who became professional jazz singers at shows and their protective

fox Dora (their guardian) spied on them and found out why they were so tired during the

day.

After the amazing and funny Chicken Diva story, we made diva masks with a partner. For

our supplies to decorate the masks we had felt pens, feathers, other decorations and

lots and lots of glitter. We had only a short period of time to decorate and make our

masks.

After we had finished letting our masks dry, we all came together in the senior room and

our principal put some music on for a mask parade. Then we all lined up and performed

a cat walk on the catwalk presenting our festive masks.

That day everyone had enjoyed the story and at the end there were some incredible diva

masks presented on the catwalk.
