Talking Politics with
King’s Priory 6th Form
Supporting Small
Business Saturday
King’s Priory recently invited me along to talk to a
group of Year 12 politics students about my role
as an MP.
Following my talk we had a wide-ranging
discussion and perhaps unsuprisingly, Brexit was
high on the agenda. The group are coming to
parliament in the New Year and as I said to them,
hopefully things will be clearer by that time.
I joined local Councillors at local businesses in
Monkseaton to show our support for Small
Business Saturday. Small Business Saturday is a
great initiative which really encourages people to
shop local. We have a wealth of wonderful local
shops and before Christmas it’s important
that we use them. I’m urging local residents
to use our local shops this Christmas.
I went along to the Learning
Disability North East Annual Carol
Service at Christ Church in North
Shields.
For me this is where Christmas
really begins.
I am supporting Cats Protection UK in
their campaign to highlight the
problems faced by many renters who
are unable to own cats due to ‘no pet’
policies. I met them recently at an
event in Parliament.

I went along to Tesco’s in North
Shields as part of their Food
Collection Project. Together with
the Trussell Trust and customers
they have provided more than 49
million meals to people in need.
I met with Mike Pratt from
Northumberland Wildlife Trust at a
recent surgery to discuss their
Nature Recovery Network Project to
bring nature into where people live
their daily lives, not just conservation
area’s and nature reserves.

I recently planted 5 trees in
Northumberland Park as part of the

conservation initiative.

It was a pleasure to go along to open

Supporting Guide Dogs
The charity ‘Guide Dogs’ do a great job
raising awareness of issues such as
pavement parking. That’s why I was happy
to go along to an event in parliament
recently to show my support and receive
messages from local people.
I’m supporting Dog’s Trust UK and their
campaign to ban puppy smuggling. I will
continue to press the Government at
every opportunity to do more to tackle
unregulated dog breeders and dealers, in
order to improve animal welfare.

Blow the cobwebs away after too many mince pies!
I’ve been a regular attender of beach cleans this
year and have always been surprised by the level of
support. The North East has led the way so lets
keep supporting SAS in their important campaign.
