Exalted Ruler’s Column
Hello all,
Well, the weather person told me Fall started September 23rd and I thought 90 degrees
ended in August! It appears Summer will be with us into the first part of October. Not
looking forward to Winter, but I am missing the nice Fall temps!
I want to thank everyone who came out for our State President Charlie Martin and First Lady Lana. From
the hotel accommodations, gifts, having their preferred refreshments, the outstanding meal, the ride to
the Lodge in Jim Staubach’s 1969 Camaro and to all our members who showed up, Newport put on one
impressive show. Thank you again.
The next day we hosted DDGER Linda Caldwell’s East District Clinic. We hosted over 60 members from
every Lodge in the East and several from the West. After a successful clinic, attendees were treated to an
excellent lunch. Thank you to Nancy Roell, Kathy Frommeyer and all their helpers for dinner Saturday
night and lunch on Sunday. It is amazing what we accomplish when we work together.
The Ladies Flea Market was very successful. We had excellent weather and a lot of buyers makes for a
perfect day. The St. Vincent DePaul truck was great and the it was filled up! I am sure both sellers and St.
Vincent will both be back. Congratulations to Shady, Jenni and all the folks who helped.
Over one hundred tickets were sold for the Red Skelton Tribute Show. I am sure it will be a great time
had by all. Sadly, I had to be in Maysville trying to make some money on my smoked meat.
October is looking very busy. On the 12th there will be a plaque dedication for Joe Amiott at his “home
away from home”, the garage in the back-parking lot with the time to be determined. The 19th is our Hal-
loween Dance which is always fun. The 24th we are planning to have an Initiation. The 27th is an all hands
on deck kind of day. This our Turkey Dinner and Raffle. Help is needed on the floor, in the kitchen and
selling dinner tickets. Please see Kathy Frommeyer to sign up to help.
November starts off quick with the District Deputy official visit on the 7th and the Ladies Homemade Craft
Show on the 9th.
Don’t forget to support your Lodge. Come out for our events or just stop by to have a beverage and
some conversation.
See ya next time,
Ray Pauly, PER, PDDGER

Secretary’s Corner/ Sickness and Distress
Happy October Y’All!
I am happy to say that we are having an Initiation on October 24th – if you have someone wanting to become
a member, please get that application to me ASAP so we can get the process moving.
We have also had several dropped members reinstated in the last few months. If you know of any dropped
members, and they want to re-join, please have them call me and I will get the reinstatement application
out to them as quickly as I can.
We have a lot going on at the Lodge in October and November – please see the ER’s column for all the de-
tails.
We are presently working on the by-laws revisions and will be sending out the proposed changes to all mem-
bers. So, if you have moved – you need to be sure I have your address in the CLMS system so that we have a
correct label to mail the information to you.
I can be reached at 859-380-3250 or you can email me at [email protected] Sickness and Distress - We sadly report the passing of our members:

IMPORTANT NOTICE Delinquent Dues Listing
On the following page is a list of our members who have not yet paid their dues for this 2019-2020
lodge year. We do not want to lose any of our members. If your name is on this list please send in your
$80.00 dues, or if you are a Life Member $50.00. We have already paid your $22.00 Grand Lodge and State
Per Capita Fees on April 1st. Which is something we have to do at that time of year for every member.
I am asking for the help of all of our members to contact anyone on this list that they might know,
and find out if there is a problem as to why they have not paid. Maybe it is something that we can help
solve, or correct. Many on the list have been a member for quite a few years.
It would be very much appreciated if you could help to keep our members. If not, they will automati-
cally be dropped as a member on 3/31/20.
Thank You very much,
Vicky Pauly, Secretary
Can Tab Collections
We have collected 75 lbs. of pull tabs to recycle for Ronald McDonald House. Thanks to all who donate.
Please help us collect the aluminum can tabs from your soft drink and beer cans by removing them from the top of your canned drink and placing them in the bowl on top of the blue recycling trash can. You can also hand them to our bartender, Kathy Hargett. If you are now giving them to someone else, could you please save them for Collection on Monday and Saturday at the Elks. (Since Janet passed away the tab col-lection has been way down. Please consider giving them to the Elks for Darrell Arnold, he is the collector now, and he comes 2x a week to pick them up. The Elks get credit for bringing them in. These little tabs are recycled and the money received for the aluminum helps subsidize the lodging costs for families of very sick children at the Ronald McDonald House.
Thank you, to everyone for contributing to this effort.
INCREASE IN BAR DRINKS
DRINK PRICES WILL BE RAISED A QUARTER $.25, ACROSS THE BOARD
AS OF OCTOBER 1, 2019

Ladies Auxiliary News
Happy Fall Ladies,
September sure was a busy month for our Ladies Auxiliary. Tasters for meeting night was
enjoyed by all and it’s fun to sample all the different food items.
The Flea Market was a successful sell out and people were spending money, thanks and a
great job was done by Jenni Woodruff. We, can’t forget Terri Amiott in the kitchen again making & selling
breakfast & lunch items, with helpers Karen Kuntz and Karen Markus. Thanks to Pam Torrano and Daisy
Napier handling the Ladies booth and selling items. There is always so much that goes on behind the
scenes to make any function a success, plus lots of help.
Sorry we had to cancel the Lady’s night out, it was a change of pace, with a lot of great ideas, fun, food and
entertainment. Maybe we had to much going on or maybe we need to try a date in January or February
when we all need a pick me up from the winter blues. We can’t always depend on having the same func-
tions, it’s time for change, new ideas, we need to appeal to all generations, for support to grow together
with our club.
Mark your calendars, October is going to busy with 3 Quarter auctions, October 1st, 15th & 29th, we will
need lots of baked goods for all three dates. On Sunday, October 27th is the Turkey Raffle, always in need
of baked items for that Bake table also. Pam Torano will be heading up the Turkey Raffle Bake Table. Deb-
bie Hornsby & Mary Lawson are asking for help with the kid’s booth this year, if you could just sign up for 1
hour of time, that gives everyone a break. Big Thanks to Pat Schmitt for taking charge and supplying the
cute food baskets, now that girl knows how to market the idea.
I get the impression from meeting night that members are not always getting information on events hap-
pening at the lodge. I need to work on what I can do to help this situation. With all the technology, Face
Book, the Internet, the Newsletter and word of mouth, I am sure some the members have some great ide-
as to share. Let’s try and work on getting this accomplished.
Change is coming, Karen Kuntz and I had to meet with Pat Valentine who works for the Department of
Charitable Gaming. It was educational learning what we can sell or do at our functions, what paperwork is
required and licenses required and how we do business. I am still asking questions and taking notes and
will forward needed information to our members.
Always a fun night at the Halloween Dance, scheduled for October 19th, music by D.J. Mike Young, $35 cou-
ple includes beer and set ups and some great costumes. This is a function of the Lodge but hope it will be
attended by many members and enjoy the evening. See the flyer in the newsletter.
New to come in November will be a Christmas Craft Show, set for Saturday November 9th from 8:30 to
3pm this will be limited to homemade crafts. For more information or book a spot contact Vicky Pauly 859-
380-3250.
Meeting Night food will be buddy boys & chips & desserts.
Warm Wishes — Shady Orth, Ladies President

PAUL PRUDOMME’S SEAFOOD GUMBO W/ANDOUILLE
INGREDIENTS: • 2 cups chopped onions • 1 1/2 cups chopped green bell peppers • 1 cups chopped celery • 2 bay leaves • 2 teaspoons salt • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano • 3/4 cup vegetable oil • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour (sub rice flour for GF) • 1 tablespoon minced or pressed garlic • 5 1/2 cups seafood stock or chicken stock • 1 pound andouille, cut into 1/2 inch pieces • 1 pound peeled medium shrimp • 9 ounces medium-large oysters in their liquor (about a dozen) • 3/4 pound crab meat (picked over) • 2 1/2 cups hot cooked rice PREPARATION: Combine onions, bell peppers, and celery in a medium-size bowl and set aside. In a small bowl combine next 7 ingredients for seasoning; mix well and set aside. Heat the oil in a large skillet over high heat until it starts to smoke, about 5 minutes. Gradually add the flour, whisking constantly with a metal whisk. Continue cooking and whisking until roux is dark red-brown to black, 2-4 minutes. Immediately add half the vegetable mirepoix and stir well, switching to a spoon if necessary, 1 minute. Add the remaining vegetables, continuing to stir, about 2 minutes. Add the seasoning mix and continue to cook, about 2 minutes. Add garlic, stirring well for another minute. Remove from heat. Place the stock in a 5 1/2-qt saucepan or Dutch oven and bring to boil. Add roux mixture by the spoonful stir-ring until dissolved in between each addition. Bring back to boil. Add andouille and return to boil again; continue boiling for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Add the shrimp, undrained oysters, and crab meat. Return to boil, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat, skim oil from surface, and serve over rice.
