Newbridge Primary School Year 5 Daily Learning
Friday 17th July: Good morning! And what a morning this is – the bookend of Year 5 has now fallen into place. So much has happened in this turbulent year, yet the one thing that has remained constant is your fantastic attitude to learning. We are both incredibly proud of you all and greatly look forward to seeing you all again in September. School hasn’t been the same without you! Summer is now upon us, and with it, limitless possibilities. Will Mr Handson finally cultivate a full man-bun? Will Mrs Bartlett return to Wales and enjoy some well-earned home comforts? Activity: Today's questions are all about different word classes. 1) Identify the contraction in the first line of the poem. Which two words have been contracted to make it? Can you write down five more contractions that you know (and the words that contract to make them)? 2) Which conjunction could replace the semi-colon used in the third line? Is there more than one conjunction that could be used? Why do you think that the poet has used a semi-colon rather than a conjunction? 3) Can you think of a synonym or phase that could be used to replace the verb 'whizzed' (or the phrase 'whizzed right past') in the fourth line? 4) In the sixth line, the phrase 'full of beans' is an idiom that means 'energetic'. Can you use the same idiom in a sentence of your own? Can you think of another synonym for the phrase 'full of beans' that could replace it?
Daily times tables Use your times table knowledge to decrypt the message below by calculating which two factors make each answer.

Curriculum Overview
Take time to look at the Curriculum Overview for your year group. This can be found on the school website at https://www.newbridge.bathnes.sch.uk/ Go to the tab Key Information, go down the menu on the left hand side to Curriculum, go to Termly Overview and click on the one for your year group. Talk to a grown up at home and decide on an aspect you would like to find out more about. This means that when you come back to school, you will be able to share something new.
