What does God want us to know?

Harmony in the church begins with harmony in the home.

What does God want us to do?

#1. Everyone: Try to defer to the needs and wants of others before your own. (5:21; cf. Romans 15:1-7; Philippians 2:1-16)

#2. Wives: Lovingly follow your husband’s leadership, and look for ways to show him respect. (5:22-24, 33; cf. Colossians 3:18; 1 Peter 3:1-6)

#3. Husbands: Lovingly sacrifice for your wife like Jesus sacrificed for you, and look for ways to care for her more. (5:25-32; cf. Colossians 3:19; 1 Peter 3:7)

#4. Children: Obey your parents while you’re still dependent on their care, and seek to honor them for the rest of your life. (6:1-3; Exodus 20:12; Colossians 3:20)

Welcome to church! We’re so glad you’re here. Feel free to grab a cup of coffee and donut from the lobby and make yourself at home.

We’re currently in the middle of a series, Snapshots of Spiritual Friendship, walking verse-by-verse through Ephesians chapters 4-6. In this inspired letter, the Apostle Paul provides a spiritual photo album of what it looks like to live the Christian life. It’s as if he chron-icles the Christian journey—one step at a time—through pictures.

Today we’ll observe “Snapshots of a Christian Home” from Ephesians 5:21-6:4. Who leads whom? How can a Christian wife best show love to her husband? How can a Christian husband best show love to his wife? (Not surprisingly, men and women often see this differently.) What responsibility do children have in contributing to a Christian home? How can we best show Jesus to our kids and grandkids?

Let’s remember the words of Patrick Henry, one of America’s founding fathers: “I have now disposed of all my property to my family. There is one thing more I wish I could give them, and that is the Christian Religion. If they have that (and I had not given them one shilling) they would be rich; and if they have not that (and I had given them all the world), they would be poor.”

Come back next Sunday, and bring a friend, as we explore “Snapshots of a Christian at Work.”

For the Christian home,

Did you know 85% of people who come to faith in Christ do so by age 18? Consider investing in the next generation by giving to this fund! In doing

so, you will help students attend summer camp to hear life-changing messages from God’s Word by speaker David Platt, be encouraged to deepen their faith and grow

closer to Jesus, make memories that will last a lifetime, and comehome ready to tell othersabout what God has

done in their lives.
