Year 7 and 8 classes are finishing projects in readiness to commence new ones. Year 9 and 10 classes look toward finishing their main projects for the year. The most significant date on the Industrial Arts calendar is the submission of the Higher School Certificate Major Projects for Timber and Multimedia and their marking in September. These projects require a lot of time and effort on the part of the students and the teachers involved, so a huge measure of appreciation goes to Mr Steve McCrorey for his work with both of these classes, as well as to Mr Geoff Palmer for assisting the students in setting up their projects for the day of the marking. Anna Robinson Head Teacher Mathematics and Industrial Arts Two examples of excellent work presented by Year 12 students Principal’s Report Last Thursday saw a wonderful coming together of our talented students (and teachers) at our biennial showcase event. The combination of art, music and dance was an outstanding representation of the talents and skills of so many of our students, as well as the culmination of much hard work and practise. Whilst it would not be possible to list all that were involved in the organisation of such an event, it would be remiss not to thank Mrs Donna Woolley for her wonderful support of our performers. I was a very proud Principal sitting in the audience and enjoying the awesome performances from our talented students. Well done! Last Friday we were fortunate to have guest speaker Jonny Shannon make a presentation to all our students and staff on the theme of mental health, anxiety and depression. He was an outstanding speaker and held the audience’s attention for the full hour with his interactive, sometimes funny and very practical session. This was organised by Anglicare in the lead up to RUOK Day this Thursday and came at no cost to the school. It was a great opportunity to remind us all about the help and strategies available to us in dealing with issues linked to our mental health. Never forget the importance of asking someone ‘Are You OK?’ Our mobile phone policy was presented to the P&C at our last meeting and will be available for download on our school website shortly. Whilst students are permitted to bring their mobile devices to school, they must be off or silent and packed away before school, during recess and lunch and also in class. Apart from special considerations and emergencies, students should only have their phones out in class if given direct permission to use them by their teacher for something directly linked to the lesson (e.g. using a stopwatch app to time an event etc.) Students are permitted to check their phones at the end of the school day to check for messages from family. Students who use their phone outside this time and without direct permission will be asked in the first instance to put the phone away. If they use it repeatedly they will be dealt with through our discipline system. Please refrain from contacting your child via their phone until the end of the school day, so they do not risk getting in trouble for using it. You are always welcome to call our school office if you need to get a message to your child during the day. At assembly this week, we recognised many students for their great effort in demonstrating our school values of ‘Respect, Responsibility and Prosper’. Congratulations to all our recipients for their outstanding efforts, and particularly to Imogen Roberts for achieving a Silver Award, and Lauryn Needham for her Gold Award! Congratulations also to our participants in the Geography Competition that ran earlier this year. Vero Joseph Principal
