IT’S BONUS TIME!The NEW Sakai SW880 & SW990High Frequency Vibratory Asphalt rollersbring with them the most powerfulperformance of any vibratory rollerson the market today. They are liter-ally the fastest rollers available –featuring a high frequency of over4,000 vpm – designed to beat the ten-der zone on Superpave and other perpetualpavement mixes. Typical working capaci-ties are up to 600 tons per hour with the84” roller that offers high centrifugal forcesup to 41,590 pounds.

Sakai’s high frequency means that theireccentric weights rotate faster, impactingthe material faster and permitting fasterground speeds while maintaining the cus-tomary 10-12 impacts per foot spacing. These rollers are engineered from theground up to develop a true 4,000+ vpm, unlike competitive attempts to get fastercompaction at the expense of lower-ratedmachine components.

• Unique Eccentric Weight Design – AllSakai vibratory compactors offer ourunique eccentric weight design. In additionto rotating the weights faster, Sakai eccen-tric weights spin in a counter-rotationaldirection – the front drum clockwise andrear drum counter-clockwise – or viceversa. This feature directs the forces down-ward into the material, reducing the possi-bility of pavement shoving, scuffing, wash-boarding and hairline cracks.

The Sakai vibration system consists of fewmoving parts. The hydraulic motor directdrives the eccentric shaft-type vibrator, andthe vibrator bearings are automaticallylubricated by an oil bath, providing long lifeand easy maintenance.

User-Friendly Controls

The SW880-990 Series rollers are alsoextremely versatile, offering dual amplitudeand frequency that are easily switched atthe operator’s station. Unlike some com-petitive models, the operator doesn’t haveto get down from the roller to make thischange.

The cockpit of these new Sakai rollers hasbeen crafted for the contractor looking tomake money and the operator wanting tohelp him do just that. All controls are with-in easy reach and some pretty high techfeatures are designed to be very easy tooperate.

• ExactCompact – A new on-board fea-ture called ExactCompact – an impactspacing indicator and speed meter –enables the operator to determine optimumsettings on a test strip and then programthe settings into the roller. A series of yel-low, red and green lights permit the opera-tor to adjust the ground speed to match thelights. An option on the prior model, thisnow standard productivity enhancerenables a quick and accurate adjustmentwithout the need for a frequency meter oradditional ground labor.

Once the correct settings have been deter-mined, they can easily be locked in at thealso-new AutoSpeed control at the for-ward-reverse lever. The new systemenables the operator to run at optimumspeeds with consistent impact spacing togain optimum results at all times withoutfurther adjustment.

Operator Comfort

• Rotating Operator’s Platform – TheSW880-990 Series operator’s station is arubber-isolated floating deck designed tominimize the transmission of vibration tothe operator and to reduce fatigue.Accessible from both sides of the machine, the operator’s station consists of a five-position, 180º rotating console where theinstrument panel rotates with the seat –ensuring that all controls are convenientlylocated and within easy reach and view ofthe operator. The machines also provideminimal side clearances and unobstructedvisibility of the drum edges, drum surfaces, and pavement joints from the operator’sseat.

• Available Intelligent Compaction

CIS from Sakai is just a lot smarter thanthe other guys’ not-so-intelligent devices.A lot less cumbersome, too. With thisavailable feature, all the operator needs todo is press the START button. Sakai CISdoes the rest. For more information onCIS, ask your Sakai dealer for a demon-stration or new brochure.

Get It Done – Fast!

• Traction – The SW880-990 Series rollersoffer dual drum drive to ensure excellenttraction and eliminate bow wave build-upin front of the machine. The drum drivesystem is completely independent from thevibration system, ensuring that the vibra-tion frequency is maintained. The drumdrive and vibration motors are cross-mounted between the front and reardrums, balancing the weight from front torear as well as left to right, and keepingthe machines rolling straight even atslower speeds.

• Fuel Efficient Engine – The SW880-990Series rollers are powered by low noise, fuel efficient, water-cooled, turbo-chargeddiesel engines. These engines fully complywith current EPA/CARB emission standards. The engines are mounted on rubber isola-tors to absorb vibration. The engine doorsare noise-suppressed and open wide forsafe, simple maintenance from the groundlevel.

Heavy-Duty Components

• Patented Shock Isolation – Despitepowerful vibration, the machine chassisand operator are fully protected by theSakai patented shock isolation system –the most effective on the market today. The rubber isolators are completelyindependent of the drum drive system.Located between the chassis frame andthe drum drive motor, the shock isolatorsreduce the transmission of vibrationback to critical machine components aswell as to the operator.

Competitive machines place the shock iso-lators between the drum and the drivemotor – meaning these isolators wear outfaster because the drive torque is trans-ferred to the drum through the rubber iso-lators – whether the vibration system is onor off. This wear then causes the machineto jerk with changes in direction. Thisirregular movement can cause push-ing/pulling of the asphalt material, roughsurfaces or hairline cracks in the pavement.

Other features of the new low profiledesign include smooth machined drums, excellent drum edge visibility, and one ofthe highest curb clearances on the marketthat avoids even guard rails and concretebarriers.

• Unique Hitch Design – All Sakai vibrato-ry compactors feature a unique heavy-dutyhitch design that is stronger than competi-tive models. This joint system providesunmatched chassis stability with superiorhorizontal articulated steering and verticaloscillation for superb ground contact on allsurfaces. This system, combined withhydraulically powered steering, gives theoperator better control and smoother steer-ing. Lubrication service intervals are onlyrequired every 250 hours vs. competitivemodels that require daily service.

High Safety Standards

• ROPS and Seat Belts – Sakai believes thatoperator safety is a high priority. ROPS and seatbelts are standard equipment on every Sakairoller sold in North America.

• Failsafe Braking System – The SW880-990Series are equipped with a two-brake, three-way failsafe system. A hydrostatic service brakeis located at the forward-reverse lever. A wetdisc, spring-applied, hydraulically-released(SAHR) parking brake switch is located on theinstrument panel. An emergency brake footpedal activates both the hydrostatic and theSAHR brakes, and will automatically apply in theevent of an engine or hydraulic system failure.
