Summer Intern Application

The Community Design Center of Minnesota offers paid youth internships in

Garden, Nutrition, and Conservation Corps programs

Summer 2013 Program:

The Garden, Nutrition, and Conservation Corps Youth Internships:

Youth interns work in gardens and parks to learn sustainable growing and maintenance methods, practice basic job skills, make connections to career opportunities, actively engage

within their community, and explore healthy lifestyle and food choices. As a new intern, you will spend time in all three corps.

In Garden Corps, you will…

In Nutrition Corps, you will… • Practice hands-on cooking skills. • Learn about nutrition, new foods, and healthy cooking. • Assist in cooking demonstrations and classes. • Learn about a variety of food systems.

In Conservation Corps, you will…

Through all three corps experiences, you will… • Participate in Wednesday afternoon classes and field trips covering topics around careers, food,

and the environment. • Help teach other people about gardening, nutrition, and the environment. • Develop leadership, teamwork, and business skills. • Learn job skills related to cooking, conservation, ecology, and sustainable agriculture. • HAVE FUN!

• Plant and maintain 6 organically grown gardens. • Learn practical gardening techniques and how to grow healthy food throughout the seasons. • Sell our produce to various community members. • Help run a Community Supported Agriculture program. • Educate the community about organic gardening and fresh food.

• Remove invasive plants and take care of native plants. • Build and maintain rain gardens that help remove pollution from rainwater. • Work in places such as Swede Hollow Park and Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary.
