Internship-Scholarship Program summer 2008
• Paid Internships in Earth/Environmental Sciences – pay rate determined by employer – end date of Internship set at time of employment
• post-Internship employment is a real possibility
• $1000. Scholarship – paid by the Geology Department after successful
completion of the Internship • Requirements set by employer (see individual ads)
– Minimum: GEOL 101, 201, 380 – Maximum: GEOL 303A, 335, chemistry

• Applications submitted to Geology Dept.
• Interviews in April • Work starting in May to

Environmental Geology Location: Irvine Dates: 5/27-8/5 Hours: 10-40 hrs/week Application due 3/28
Geophysical Services Location: Corona Dates: 6/1-8/22 Hours: 20-40+ hrs/week Applications due 4/15
Hydrogeology/Environmental Location: Huntington Beach Dates: 6/2-8/22 Hours: 10-40 hrs/week Application due 3/30
Environmental Geology Location: Tustin Dates: ends 8/15 Hours: 12 hrs/week minimum Application due now to 3/28
Rock Springs Mineral Processing • Bentonite mining &
distribution company – Operations in central WY – ≈10 employees in WY – Offices in Orange Co.
• Exploration – new 30,000 acre deposit
this summer – permitting
• Surface mining • Product testing and
processing

– basic mapping – sampling
• Lab – testing – processing
• Permitting – stake claims on gov’t land
• 4 weeks work – 40 hours/week – $14/hour paid out of WY
• no State tax! • Total ≈$2240 • possibility to work
Saturdays for $21/hour – $1K scholarship based
on successful completion • Paid travel • Room, per diem
