Serve With Love

St. Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous) is a Catholic MinorityInstitution managed by the Society of the Sisters of St. Ann whoseGeneralate is in Rome. The Sisters of St. Ann work in variousparts of the world: Italy, India, U.S.A., Mexico, Philippines,Cameroon, Brazil, UK and Peru. It provides services in:educational institutions, hospitals, dispensaries, homes for theaged, destitute & disabled, social & technical institutions, parishes,orphanages and boarding homes.

Founded in 1966 in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, this college wasthe first fully private aided College of Education focusingexclusively on the women in and around the Telangana area withan affiliation to Osmania University and receiving grant-in-aidfrom the Government of Telangana. It is included in the list ofcolleges maintained under Section 2(f) and 12 (B) of the UGCAct, 1956. It’s beginnings were rather modest, housed in roomsleased from St. Ann’s School, Secunderabad. With grants fromthe Dutch Foundation and contribution from the management, alarge spacious and well-designed two storeyed semi circularshaped building was constructed in 1976. A multipurpose hallwas later added to the main building and was christened theCEBEMO hall as a mark of gratitude to the benefactor fromNetherlands. The infrastructure is well planned keeping in mindthe requirements of a College of Education. The College hasspacious M.Ed and B.Ed classrooms with CEBEMO hall beingused for common purposes. The college is endowed with a wellestablished fully automated library with a diverse collection of

about 20,500 books, journals, and adjoining the main library is areading room. Other facilities include two well equipped sciencelaboratories for biological and physical sciences, a psychologylaboratory with an inbuilt counseling cubicle, and a multipurposeeducational technology laboratory. A room has been assignedfor work experience and free hand activities. The building alsoincludes a Virtual Studio for the production and telecast of videolessons.

The college is also equipped to support its teaching and learningthrough the use of its computer laboratory with an in-built provisionfor practical sessions giving students access to the college’scomputer network. An ELT language laboratory is situated onthe first floor, has facilities that enhances linguistic competenciesin students.. A spacious room - Anand Bhavan serves as a studentdining room bringing immense “Anand” as the name denotes. Thebackyard of the college, that is laced with shrubs and trees emittingeco-friendly waves of friendship also invite students during theirlunch hour.

The Administrative block at the entrance comprises of an officeroom, Principal’s office, a reception area for visitors, a guest roomand staff room. A serene prayer room is available on the first floorof the building and is open for the staff and students throughoutthe day.

Time Line

The late Dr.Sr.Marie Antoinette (1966-75) founder Principal of thecollege played a key role in the establishment and developmentof the Institution. Late Rev. Sr. Pia succeeded Dr. Sr. MarieAntoinette as Principal from 1975 to 1981. Sr. Pia was anacademician who blended her intellect with spiritual fervor. Rev.Sr. Sylvia D’souza was Principal from 1981 to 1995. Sr.Sylvia, adynamic Principal, brought changes in the teaching learning

process through seminars, workshops, exhibitions and othercollaborative strategies.

Prof. Dr. Sr. Marlene was Principal from 1995 – 2012. Sistercommenced her mission with zeal and commitment keeping thevision of quality education and college motto “Serve with love” inthe forefront. A pragmatic person with strong convictions, herendeavors attracted many laurels to the Institution includingcommencement of M.Ed. course and accreditation of the Collegeby NAAC in 2002, conferring of Autonomous status to the collegein the year 2005 with a second Autonomous extension in 2012.Re-accreditation by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade for the second andthird time in the years 2009 and 2015 respectively was yet anothermemorable milestone, the first of its kind for a College of Educationin the State of Telangana and one among other states of thecountry.

Rev. Dr. Sr. Marry Kutty P.J. a spiritually rooted personality is analumnus of this Institution obtaining both her undergraduate andpost graduate degrees from the college. Since August 2012, shehas been serving as the Principal. Her extensive experience asan educator, administrator, counselor, psychologist and socialworker makes her a rare blend of an exemplary leader. Blendingher academic skills with innovations in pedagogical practices shediligently pursues the goals of the Congregation in achieving thevision dictated by the Pedagogy of the Heart. Her prudence,efficient leadership and determination has resulted in the collegebeing accredited with ‘A’ grade by NAAC for the 3rd time in 2015.Under sister’s able tenure the Institution’s M.Ed. course has beenaccorded the autonomous status in 2015. In 2018 the UGC expertcommittee had granted autonomy for the third time for the institution.

National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), the collegeconstituted Quality Circle Committees and Statutory Boards forthe smooth functioning of Autonomy. A Parent TeacherAssociation (PTA) forum is constituted to work with mutualcontributions for quality enhancement. The Internal QualityAdvisory Committee (IQAC) and Student Quality Cell (SQC)together contribute to the enrichment of Scholastic and Co-scholastic domains, periodically appraising through a systemsapproach to produce quality teachers for local and global needs.This Institution continuously strives to work for the betterment ofthe stakeholders and society rising up to the challengesrecommended by the boards, thus translating and implementingthe suggestion into behavioral outcomes.

Being an Autonomous Institution, the college conducts its ownexaminations. The college followed an annual pattern ofexaminations until 2004 including the beginning of the autonomousyear 2005. From 2006 onwards, a semester examination patternwhich includes continuous comprehensive evaluation isconducted.

Faculty

The faculty comprises of professionals appointed as per NCTEnorms. The college provides the faculty opportunities to engagein professional development for subject knowledge enhancementand updating of pedagogical competencies. Currently there are15 teaching staff 11 of whom have doctoral degrees. The facultyworks in consensus with the Institution’s vision and missioncommitted to the cause of teacher education.

student-teachers with regard to their attendance, preparation ofspecial projects, teaching practice cum internship and overallparticipation in the B.Ed. course. Mentors are trained in-house tocounsel student-teachers when required. Each mentor is allotteda minimum of 15 student-teachers for the B.Ed as well as M.Edcourse.

Criteria for admission:

1) B.Ed.

St. Ann’s College of Education is established exclusively for womencandidates. Even though the minimum eligibility for the course isgraduation, many post graduates and doctorates also join this course.They are admitted into the college according to the percentage ofseats allotted in each discipline by the Government of Telangana.The allotment as per the norms is as follows:

35% for Social Studies Methodology25% for Mathematics Methodology20% for Biological Sciences Methodology10% for Physical Science Methodology and10% for English I – Methodology

All the students are admitted on the basis of merit secured in theEd.CET through counseling. Christian Minority students are givenpreference under the same norms.

2) M.Ed.

St. Ann’s College of Education, offers a Post Graduate course inEducation from the Academic year 2002. The course is of twoyear duration which comprises of four semesters. It is affiliatedto Osmania University and is approved by the NCTE.

Eligibility

Candidates who have secured 55% and above in the B.Ed. courseand 36 marks and above in the M.Ed. Entrance Examinationconducted by Osmania University are eligible to apply.

Selection of methods of teaching

1. The subject in which the candidate appears in the Ed.CETexamination is considered as Method-I.

2. Method II is based on the subject that the candidate hasstudied in Degree (eligibility) course. In case of BCA & BBAcandidates, the selection of methodology subject shall bebased on their Intermediate (+2) study as per Ed.CET norms.

3. In case of English Method-I, selection of second method shallbe based on the subject pursued at the Intermediate level.

4. In case of Engineering graduates, Mathematics and PhysicalSciences are offered as methodology subjects.

Note :

i. A candidate is allowed to select one language and one non-language method of teaching or two non-language methodsof teaching.

ii. No candidate is allowed to select two language methods.

Activities:

Curriculum

After the approval of all the statutory bodies, the B.Ed. curriculum,scheme of instruction and scheme of examination is stated indetail as the structure of the course.

Through its co-curricular activities, the college offers its studentteachers:

Forum to display their talents and creativity, to develop inthem skills of organization, spirit of community service andsocial awareness.

To develop in them values of co-operative living, participation,self-esteem and respect for others.

To participate in as many activities as possible.

The other activities are designed on the basis of the Vision,Mission and Objectives of the Institution.

1. Intellectual domain: Seminars and workshops, guestlectures, elocution, essay writing, subject clubs, projects,general knowledge, debate, quiz and discussion on currentaffairs.

2. Social domain: Community service, remedial teaching, adultliteracy, exposure to life in the slums, discussion on socialjustice, moot court and celebration of national days.

3. Moral and Spiritual domain: Morning assembly, prayerservice, value education, catechetics and retreats.

4. Cultural domain: Competitions in dance, dramatics, singing,fancy dress, rangoli, music, drawing and painting and flowerarrangement.

5. Kinesthetic domain: Sports, games, aerobics and yoga.

General Rules and Instructions

Rules of Attendance:

Punctuality in attending the assembly and lectures shouldbe strictly observed.

1. The Masters and Bachelor of Education courses are aimedat preparing competent teachers to meet local, national andglobal needs. Hence, it is desirable that student-teachers ofSt. Ann’s College of Education put in 100% attendance.

2. Attendance shall be reckoned from the date of admission tothe course.

3. A trainee shall put in not less than 75% attendance in theoryand 95% in practicals in the B.Ed. programme.

4. The students who fail to maintain 40% of minimum attendanceare not eligible for seeking re-admission, upon full paymentof all prescribed fees in the subsequent academic year.

5. A Leave letter should be submitted on the day of reporting tothe college. A sample application is given below:

6. In special cases the Principal may condone the deficiencyof attendance not exceeding 10% based on the medicalcertificate given by an authorized and competent medicalofficer.

7. A consolidated monthly class and morning assemblyattendance will be displayed on the Notice Board of the collegeon the 5th of every month.

8. A candidate who absents herself continuously for a period of10 days or more without reporting to the college is liable foran explanation to the notice issued by the Principal, failingwhich the admission will stand cancelled.

9. Cumulative attendance of the candidate with respect to boththeory and practical days will be considered for the award ofscholarship, prizes and gold medals.

10. Supplementary / Improvement candidates are not eligible forgetting rank or gold medal.

11. The students who do not have adequate attendance will notbe considered for the award of any scholarship or any kindof financial aid by the college or abiding the rules ofgovernment or quasi-government agency.

12. Fee Structure: Being an Autonomous Institution, to sustainthe quality of education provided by the college, it has beenapproved by the members of the Governing Body of theManagement to ascribe the fee structure for the B.Ed. courseas Rs.13,000 per Semester.

Other Rules:

1. The medium of instruction shall be in English.

2. The course of study will consist of class lectures, tutorials,assignments, periodicals, special projects, teaching practiceand practical examinations.

3. All the student activities will be closely monitored mentor-wise.

4. The dress code for students is saree / salwar kameez whichshould be clean and decent.

5. Students are strictly forbidden to organize unauthorizedmeetings in the college or collect money for any purposewithout the permission of the Principal.

6. No notice of any kind shall be circulated among students ordisplayed on the notice board without the approval of thePrincipal.

7. In all matters affecting the reputation of the college studentsmust conduct themselves with dignity and decorum.

8. Every student is required to go for a field trip / picnic /educational tour.

9. Every student is responsible for her belongings.

10. Say ‘No’ to plastic bags in the college campus.

Library Rules

1. Library is computerized and BSNL broadband – Wi-Fi internetfacility is provided to the staff and students

2. The library functions from 9 a.m to 5 p.m on all working daysexcept on Sundays and on public holidays. The library isopen around 284 days yearly and 8 hours per day, 4 hoursduring holidays and 8 hours during examination days.

3. Silence should be maintained in the library.

4. Attendance for library periods is also considered forcumulative attendance.

5. Students are issued two or three books for a period of oneweek

6. Reference books, syllabus, journals, model question papers,dissertations and Doctoral Theses of staff members aremeant to be read and referred in the library only.

7. Any type of damage or loss of books is strictly prohibited.Implications of the same will be serious.

8. Access to online journals and other references is availablein the library for extra information.

9. Students and staff are not allowed to sub-lend the books oflibrary to any person under any circumstance.

10. A book bank facility is provided to lend text books to theeconomically backward students with a refundable depositof Rs.100/-.

11. Reprographic facilities are available on request.

General Rules of Examination:

1. There will be four Semester End Theory Examinations forthe B.Ed. course. The final practical examinations will beconducted in the Methodology I & II.

2. Candidates who have completed practical work and submittedrecords specified in the curriculum alone are eligible to appearfor theory and practical examination of B.Ed. course. Nocandidate without the completion of class lectures, tutorials,workshops, internship, practicum and record work is allowedfor Semester End Theory Examinations.

3. The Principal will have the discretion of not permitting thecandidates to appear for the final Semester End Theoryexamination in case their practical work as prescribed is notsatisfactory or incomplete at the time of submitting theexamination application form.

4. A Candidate who fails in the theory part of examination maybe allowed to reappear either in the concerned theory paper(s) in which she failed or in the theory papers, at anysubsequent examination without putting in further attendance,provided she does not change the subject originally offeredby her.

5. Attendance of N.C.C. / N.S.S. Camps or Inter-Collegiate orInter – University or Inter – State or National or Internationalmatches or Debates, Youth Festivals or EducationExcursions if they form the part of the curriculum orattendance at such other Inter-University, Inter-Collegeactivities will not be counted as absence. However, theaggregate of such absence should not exceed two weeks inthe entire course period.

6. Application forms for Semester End Examination shall besubmitted to the college with two recent passport sizephotographs along with necessary enclosures.

7. A candidate who fails to present herself for the examinationdue to any cause whatsoever except shortage of attendanceor one who fails to pass the examination shall not be entitledto claim refund of the whole or part of the examination fee orask for the reservation of the same for a subsequentexamination or examinations.

8. A candidate who has been allowed to appear at theexamination of the Institution once, but has not been able toappear or has failed to pass the examination may be permittedto appear at the same examination again without putting inany further attendance.

9. No candidate shall be allowed to put in attendance or pursuemore than one degree course through regular mode or appearat two examinations at one and the same time. In other words,no candidate shall be allowed to pursue more than one-degree course through regular mode

10. This rule does not apply to the examination for part-timeDiploma or Certificate Courses conducted by the institution.

11. The examination will be held as prescribed in the Scheme ofExamination

12. B.Ed. candidates, who fail to write the periodicals as per theschedule, are also permitted to appear for the Semester EndTheory Examination provided she secures 40% in each paperand 45% overall aggregate to be declared passed.

13. A candidate who secures 40% in each of the theory paperand declared as pass with Credit ‘C’ still remains as a failed

candidates unless the candidate secures overall 45% inSemester End Theory Examination.

14. A candidate who fails to secure an overall aggregates of 45%in the Semester End Theory Examination, will be allowed toappear in any paper / papers of her choice in order to secure45%.

15. The examination in theory papers will be a writtenexamination. Besides the written examination, there will bepractical examinations in the two methods of teaching optedby the candidate. Practicum is examined by two jurymembers (one internal and one external examiner) which willbe conducted as per the schedule notified by the Controllerof Examinations.

16. Candidates who have not passed the examination in the firstattempt along with the batch in which they were admitted arenot eligible for Rank Certificates / Gold Medals / Prizes.Awardof Gold medal is based on (i) Percentage of Attendance and(ii)Overall CGPA in both Theory and Practicals.

17. Formative Evaluation : A continuous comprehensiveassessment of scholastic, non-scholastic, co-curricular andother domains are credited and awarded by the college as atestimonial for the candidate’s performance during the course.

Rules & & Regulations (M.Ed. )These Regulations shall come into force from the Academic Year2019-2020 for M.Ed. All the rules and regulations, hereinafter,specified shall be read as a whole for the purpose of interpretation.

1. DEFINITIONS:

a. College : Catholic Minority Private Aided AutonomousCollege affiliated to Osmania University. Accredited byNational Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with‘A’ for the third cycle.

b. “Post Graduate programmes” means Master’s degreecourses in the Faculty of Education.

c. Programme : An educational programme leading to awardto a Degree, Diploma or Certificate.

d. Academic year : The consecutive (one odd + one even)semesters constitute one academic year.

e. Credit Based Semester System (CBSS): Under the CBSS,the requirement for awarding a degree or diploma or certificateis prescribed in terms of number of credits to be completedby the students during the course.

f. Course : Usually referred to, as ‘papers’ is a component of aprogramme. All courses need not carry the same weight.The courses should define learning objectives and learningoutcomes. A course may be designed to comprise lectures/ tutorials / laboratory work / field work / outreach activities /project work / vocational training / seminars / term papers /assignments / self – study / presentations / Viva etc. or acombination of some of these.

g. Semester: Each semester will consists of 16 – 18 weeks ofacademic work equivalent to 90 actual teaching days. Eachyear should have a total of at least 200 working days exclusiveof administration and examination period. The odd semestermay be scheduled from July to December and even semesterfrom January to June depending upon the completion ofadmission procedures.

h. Types of Courses: Courses in the programme are of threekinds: Core, Foundation and Elective.

i) Core CourseThere may be a Core Course in every semester. This is thecourse which is to be compulsorily studied by a student as acore requirement to complete the requirement of a programmein a said discipline of study.

ii) Foundation Course:

The Foundation Courses may be of two kinds: “CompulsoryFoundation” and “Elective Foundation”.

Compulsory Foundation courses are the courses based uponthe content that leads to Knowledge enhancement. They aremandatory for all disciplines.

Elective Foundation courses are value-based and are aimedat man-making education. Here in this M.Ed. curriculumFoundation courses are compulsory.

iii) Elective Course:

Elective course is a course which can be chosen from apool of papers. It may be:

Supportive to the discipline of study

Providing an expanded scope

Enabling an exposure to some other discipline/domain

Nurturing student’s proficiency/skill.

An elective may be “Generic Elective” focusing on thosecourses which add generic proficiency to the students. Anelective may be “Discipline centric” or may be chosen froman unrelated discipline. It may be called an “Open Elective.”

The core courses and the foundation courses are compulsory.The students are entitled to select one course from elective(Generic) and one from elective (Open) in each semester.

i. Inter Semester Break (ISB): An Extension of 6 weeks isdesigned as per NCTE in various Semesters for practical

purposes i.e. for a 4-semester 16 – 18 weeks programme, a6 weeks field immersion activities is termed as ISB.

j. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS): The CBCS provideschoice for students to select from the prescribed coursesunder Electives – Generic and Electives – Open making thecourse as Choice Based.

k. Credit : A unit by which the course work is measured. Itdetermines the number of hours of instructions required perweek. One credit is equivalent to one hour of teaching (lectureor tutorial) or two hours of practical work / field work per week.

l. Grade Point : It is a numerical weight allotted to each gradeon a 10-point scale.

m. Letter Grade : It is an index of the performance of studentsin a said course. Grades are denoted by letter O, A+, A, B+,B, C and F. There is a range of marks for each Grade Letter.

n. Credit Point Secured : It is the product of grade point andnumber of credits for a course.

o. Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) : It is a measureof performance of work done in a semester. It is ratio of totalcredit points secured by a student in various coursesregistered in a semester and the total course credits assignedduring that semester.

p. Transcript or Grade Report : Based on the grades earned,a certificate shall be issued to all the registered students afterevery semester. The grade certificate will display the coursedetails (code, title, number of credits, grade secured) alongwith SGPA of that semester.

q. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA): It is a measureof overall cumulative performance of a student over allsemesters. The CGPA is the ratio of total credit pointssecured by a student in various courses in all semestersand sum of the total credits of all courses in all the semesters.

r. “Board of Studies” means the Management, facultymembers of the college and representatives from affiliateduniversity and subject experts in the disciplines concerned.

2. ADMISSION : A candidate for admission to M.Ed. course inthe Faculty of Education has to qualify at the M.Ed. EntranceExamination conducted by the Osmania University for thatacademic year. This college admits only women candidates.Adhering to the rules and regulations of Osmania University,the candidates will be admitted strictly in accordance withthe merit secured at the Entrance Examination, keeping inview the rules in force in respect of the statutory reservationof seats under various categories of candidates. P.G. (M.Ed.)course is a self – financing programme.

3. DURATION : The duration of M.Ed. course shall be two years(four semesters). The duration of each semester shall be100 days (around 16 weeks)

4. ATTENDANCE:i. 75% of attendance is compulsory to all the students. A

student shall be considered to have satisfied the requirementof attendance for appearing the semester end examination,if she has attended not less than 75% of the number of classes(both regular and interdisciplinary courses) held upto the endof the semester including tests, seminars and practicum, etc.

ii. In special cases the Head of the Institution may condonedeficiency of attendance not exceeding 10%, based onmedical certificate by an authorized medical officer approvedby the Principal. There is a provision for condonation ofattendance for the students those who have put up theattendance between 65% and 74% on Medical Grounds onpayment of a fee and production of medical certificate.

iii. If a student represents her institution, University, State orNation in Sports, NCC, NSS or Cultural or any other officiallysponsored activities, she shall be eligible to claim theattendance for the actual number of days participated, subjectto a maximum of 20 days in a Semester based on the specificrecommendations of the Principal of the College concerned.

iv. A student who does not satisfy the requirements ofattendance shall not be permitted to take internal assessmentas well as the Semester End Examinations.

7. Evaluation Methods

a. Theory Examinations

i. Out of the total marks for each course/paper 30% marks shallbe earmarked for continuous assessment (internal

assessment/ seminars / assignments) and remaining 70%for the semester-end examinations.

Thus the, total marks for internal assessment (15),assignment (5) and Seminar (10) shall be 30 marks for eachpaper in all the semesters.

ii. 75% of attendance is compulsory to all the students. Astudent shall be considered to have satisfied the requirementof attendance for appearing the semester end examination,if she has attended not less than 75% of the number of classesheld up to the end of the semester including tests, seminars,practicum, research work and so on.

iii. A) In special cases the Principal may condone deficiency ofattendance not exceeding 10% based on medical certificateby an authorized medical officer approved by the Principal.There is provision for condonation of attendance for thestudents those who have put up the attendance between 65%to 74% on Medical Grounds on payment of a fee andproduction of Medical Certificate.

B)The candidates who have paid the examination fee at theend of each semester (regular course) are only permitted toappear for the examinations. They are eligible to transit intothe next semester and are considered to be on Rolls only ifthey pay the examination fee.

iv. A) There shall be Semester End theory examinations of 3hours duration for 70 marks paper and 1 ½ hours durationfor 35 marks paper. Each answer script of semester endexamination (theory) shall be valued by two internalexaminers in odd semester and one internal and one externalin the even semester. The marks awarded to that answerscripts shall be the average of these two evaluations. If thedifference in marks between the two evaluations is 20% ormore, such scripts shall be assessed by a third examiner(internal). Average of the higher of the two valuations will betaken.

B) Each theory paper is assessed for 70 marks (atSemester End Exam) and 30 marks (during the course) asinternal assessment.

v. The pass marks in each paper shall be 40% . There is noseparate pass mark for internal assessment. A candidatehas to secure a minimum of 40% of marks in the semester-end examination and internal examination put together to passa paper.

b. Dissertation

i. Every M.Ed. student shall do the Dissertation workindividually under the supervision of a Teacher Educator /Supervisors.

ii. The Dissertation work and supervisor shall be assigned tothe student by the Department during the I semester to enablethe student to plan and carry out the work through theremaining 3 semesters (II, III & IV semesters).

iii. The Dissertation work is assigned 8 credits and evaluatedfor 200 marks.

iv. The pass marks in Dissertation shall be 50%.

v. Dissertation has to be carried out as per the guidelines givenin the curriculum.

c. Internshipi. Students have to complete internship in two phases. Phase

I is in 2nd semester while the phase II is in 3rd semester.

ii. Internship work is assessed for 100 marks and 4 credits willbe assigned to it.

d. Internal Assessment TestsFor each paper/course in a semester there shall be twointernal assessment (IA) tests, one assignment and oneseminar.

i. 1st Internal assessment test shall be conducted at theend of the 9th week of Instruction (covering 2/3 Units ofthe Syllabus)

ii. 2nd Internal assessment test be conducted in the 15th

week of instruction (covering the rest of the syllabus/Units)

The two tests each shall consist of:

The question paper will have two sections i.e. Section-A for a total of 5 marks and Section – B for a total of 10marks. The format and type of questions are as per thechoice of the Teacher Educator.

e. Field based Assignments/ Reports:

Every student shall submit one assignment per paper in asemester. The Topic for the assignment shall be allotted inthe 6th week of instruction.. The assignment shall behandwritten (student’s own handwriting). Total marks for theassignment is 5 marks.

f. Seminars:

Every student shall give a seminar presentation (one in eachTheory Paper) for about 10 minutes which will be evaluatedfor 10 (ten) marks by two internal jury members appointedby the Principal. Out of these 10 marks, 4 marks shall beallotted for the write up of the topic of the seminar and 6 marksfor the presentation. The seminar lecture is expected to trainthe student in self study, collection of relevant matter fromthe books and internet resources, editing, document writing,typing and presentation. The list of the seminar lectures tobe delivered in the college shall be prominently displayed onthe Notice Board of the Department. The seminar lecturesare open to all the students and faculty of the College. Thetext of the seminar lecture must be typed on A4 size papersand should be of at least 4 to 5 pages, which is evaluated for5 marks and should be submitted in the College Library andalso be made available in the College website.

The Internal Assessment (I.A.) test shall be conducted asper the schedule prescribed in the Almanac. In case acandidate fails to appear for the I.A Test for whatever reasons,

the test will not be conducted again and she has to foregothe I.A. test and against the marks column for I.A., it will beindicated ABSENT. In such cases where the candidateshave not appeared for the I.A test(s), they are required tosecure 40 % marks out of 100 marks i.e 28 marks out of 70marks earmarked for semester end examination to beconsidered as Passed in that paper.

However, in the subjects where the maximum marks aredifferent from 100 marks; the scheme is to be worked outproportionately.

NOTE: The differently-abled students (Hearing impaired; visuallyimpaired & orthopedically impaired) also shall complete allthe Practicum which includes Dissertation, Internship,Records, and other field engagement on par with normalstudents.

The marks secured by the student in the Internal tests,Assignments, Seminars, Internship, Dissertation andsemester-end examinations are converted into SGPA andCGPA.

8. Improvement of Grades and Completion of the Course:

Candidates who have passed in a theory paper/papers areallowed to appear again for theory paper/papers only once inorder to improve her grade, by paying the fee prescribed.Such candidates are allowed to appear for improvementexamination only once in the next immediate semesterexamination only. If a candidate improves her grade, thenher improved grade will be taken into consideration for theaward of GPA only at the end of IV Semester. The improvedgrade shall not be higher than A+. Such improved grade willnot be counted for the award of prizes/medals, Rank andDistinction.

9. Promotion, Re-admission Rules & Maximum Time forCompletion of Course:

If the candidate does not show improvement in the grade,his/her previous grade will be taken into consideration.Candidates will not be allowed to improve marks / grade inthe internal assessment, Internship, seminars andDissertation.

The procedure to be followed for granting re-admission to thestudents in the following cases:

1. A student who did not put in the required attendance in asemester of a course and thus detained

2. A student after completing a semester did not continue theirstudies in the next immediate semester on personal /healthgrounds but desired to continue his/her studies after a shortbreak.

3. A student who has put in not less than 40% of attendance ina Semester and not registered for the examination can takere-admission in the same semester without appearing for theentrance examination.

4. Candidates who, after completing a semester of the coursebut taken T.C to join some other course and come back tocontinue the earlier course.

5. In all the above cases, re-admission is permissible providedthey are within the period of double the duration of the course(i.e., 4 years) from the year of their original admission. Further,the approval of the University has to be obtained in respectof those students who take TC to join some other courseand come back for re-admission in the same college

6. All the readmissions including such of those students, whotake TC and come back, shall be granted by the Principal ofthis college which in turn is subject to the fulfillment of thefollowing conditions stipulated by the University.

a) They should have been promoted to next semester in whichthey are seeking readmission.

b) They should join the course within 4 weeks in case ofsemester system from the date of commencement of classes.

c) They should pay the re-admission fee as prescribed by theUniversity.

NOTE: No re-admission shall be made after the cutoff date (4th

week in a 16 week semester) under any circumstances. Thecutoff date for granting re-admission shall be reckoned from thedate of commencement of classes for different courses as perthe almanac communicated by the University every year.

7. In the normal course of time a candidate is expected tocomplete M.Ed. Degree course within two years from thedate of admission.

8. Whenever the syllabus is revised, the candidate reappearingshall be allowed for M.Ed. Degree examinations accordingto the old syllabus upto 2 years from the time of her admission.

10. Pattern of Theory Question PapersThe theory examinations are implemented using two formats.The 70 marks paper is of 3 hours duration and the 35 markspaper is for 1.5 hours. Each format has two sections.

For Core and Foundation Papers (70 marks):Section A – consists of 6 short answer questions out of whicha candidate is expected to answer any 4 questions. Eachquestion carries 10 Marks. Total marks for Section – A is 40marks. Section B – consists of 4 essay type questions, outof which a candidate is expected to answer any 2 questionsin about 5 pages each. Each question carries 15 marks. Totalmarks for Section – B is 30 marks.

For Elective Papers (35 marks):Section A – consists of 7 short answer type questions, outof which a candidate is expected to answer any 5 questions.Each question carries 5 marks. Total marks for Section – Ais 25 marks. Section B – consists of 2 essay type questions,out of which a candidate is expected to answer any 1 questionin about 5 pages. The question carries 10marks.

11. Conduct of Practical Examinations (MEDN 111, 112, 211,212, 312, 313 and 411)The practicum papers are examined for 50 marks each andare evaluated by a jury consisting of 2 examiners, an internal

and an external. The mentor/supervisor is the internalexaminer; the external examiner is identified from othercolleges / universities by the Controller of Examinations andsubsequently approved by the Principal. The jury will evaluatethe work done by the student and also examine them on tasksrelated to the practicum for an award of 50 marks.
