Aerodynamics.Carefully balanced to helpimprove both efficiencyand high-speed stability. Friction reduction.

A whole range of measures designed toimprove efficiency, such as: low roll-resistancetyres, low-friction oil, optimal t ransmissiongearing, carefully balanced EPM (ElectricPower Management) and fine-tunedprogramming of the air conditioning.

Rightsizing.Saab has utilised smaller engines withmore power for more than thirty years.All engines in the new Saab 9-5 Sedanare turbocharged. In certain engines

technologies such as direct injection,dual variable valve timing and twin-scrollturbo are utilised to further enhanceresponse and efficiency.

Weight reduction.Approximately 60 per cent of thebodyshell weight consists of high

strength or ultra high strength steel.This helps reduce weight comparedto regular steel. Several parts suchas the bonnet and the rear bumperbeam are made of aluminium alloy.

Turbocharging massively increases engine torque, especially in the medium rev

range. This enables us to optimise gear ratios to help cut fuel consumption, while

still offering a driving experience out of the ordinary. In certain engines, advancedfeatures such as direct injection, combustion sensors and two-stage turbo

senses your driving style and the road conditions.

It then actively helps improve the cars behaviour

on the road. What you feel is better grip, faster

acceleration, more agile cornering and improved

Real-time control.The XWD system is uniquelyintegrated with the ESP andother electronic systems to activelyimprove the driving experience.20 sensors check information100 times every second and allowseamless shift of torque betweenthe front and rear axles.

Acceleration.When you start on a drysurface, most of the torque isdistributed to the rear wheelsto help avoid wheel slip andgain maximum acceleration.

Cornering.On a twisting road, the SaabXWD system distributesmore torque to the rear wheels,thus combining responsive curvebehaviour with high stability.

Grip and stability.If the front wheels hit an icypatch during acceleration, mostof the torque is diverted to therear wheels for enhanced gripand stability.

eLSD.The electronically controlled rearlimited slip differential (eLSD)actively shifts torque betweenthe rear wheels. It is designed togive the car a very agile stanceon winding roads. (Optional)

Efficiency.When cruising at a steady speed onlya small amount of torque is deliveredto the rear wheels. This helps supportdirectional stability and reduces fuelconsumption.

Saab Advanced Park Assist.With front, rear and side sensors to helpyou find a street parking space that fits thecar. Visual and audible instructions guide youto execute a perfect parking manoeuvre.

Panorama sunroof.Large split glass roof with sliding interiorshades. The front section is tilt/retractable.

Spacetechnology.Inside the new Saab 9 -5 Sedan theres plenty of room for you and your passengers.

To add even more to the aura of space, you can specify a large panorama sunroof.

Further space tech in this car includes the advanced parking assistance system that can

As an example, take a look at the Bi-xenon SmartBeam. Its an intelligent new headlight system

designed to sense speed, oncoming traffic, your steering direction and bad weather conditions.

It then adapts the beam for better visibility in a variety of situations. And automatically switches

between high and low beam*. Clearly safer and very convenient.

Dynamic cornering light.Turns the light in the directionyou are steering. Improvesvision on twisting roads.

City light.Below 50 km/h. Wide, spread-outlight pattern for better vison onurban roads, at intersections andto help detect pedestrians.

Country light.At speeds between 50 and 100 km/h.Provides improved visibility on left and rightside. Improved visibility range, combined withreduced glare for oncoming traffic.

Motorway light.Speeds above 100 km/h.Increased light output andimproved visibility range.

Adverse weather light.Activated by the rain sensor.Improves vision in rain, snowand fog. Reduced glare foroncoming traffic.

Automatic high/low beam*.Switches to low beam when you
