Nathaniel Shilkret's fine TromboneConcerto was commissioned by and dedicated to theimmensely popular jazz and dance-band leader TommyDorsey, who gives the world premiere captured on this CD.This immensely valuable recording document is partneredby a similar recording of the beautiful Saxophone Concertoof Paul Creston, which is outstandingly well played byJames Abato. The disc is completed by Morton Gould'sbrilliant Latin-American Symphonette, documentingStokowski's only complete performance of a work hegreatly admired.GHCD 2424
