1. NEED FOR A NEW CLEANING PRODUCT

The market for cleaning and static neutralisation is growing quickly. There are many reasons for this:

1. Quality standards are becoming stricter – dust and static have become more serious quality problems. Tier one suppliers in the automotive industry, in particular, are imposing serious expectations and parameters on dust and inclusions.

2. Many industrial processes are using cleanrooms – even polymer extrusion and injection moulding are being carried out in cleanrooms.

3. More parts are being made of plastics and other non-conductive materials – in automotive mouldings, medical devices, medical packaging, consumer electronics etc. This increases the size of the market.

4. More of these parts are being painted and decorated.

5. Production is becoming automated which demands better, more efficient cleaning products.

Our best cleaning and neutralising products have been:

4125 Gun Is as popular as ever, giving powerful cleaning and neutralising in an ergonomic package. But it is not appropriate for automation.

5100 Airknives There is still a good market for linear airknives, but they are not suitable for the most complicated geometry and lack versatility.

5500 Airknives Fan-driven airknives are used in car plants and other big installations, but are too expensive and not sufficiently controllable for smaller applications.

4510 / 4400 Good for very small applications, but not for larger Nozzles installations.

The 4900 Roto-Clean is a valuable addition to our cleaning product range.

4900 ROTO Clean-LD-iss.1

The 4900 is a unique system for static neutralisation and dust removal, consisting of a dual rotary nozzle driven by a patented centrifugal control and a circular static eliminator. There are two standard sizes with diameters of 112 mm or 178 mm. These can be used as single cleaning heads, or be used in multiples for longer product, as shown below.

3. ROTO-CLEAN: HOW IT WORKS

Circular static eliminator bar

High efficiency air bearing

Rotating air bar with brass air jet nozzle at each end

The air bar holding the two nozzles rotates at a speed of about 60 revolutions per second. It is air-powered and driven by a patented centrifugal control. There is no other power source needed for the nozzles.

The air from the two nozzles passes over the circular static eliminator and becomes ionised.

Positioned over a conveyor or similar moving system, the ionised air from the fast-moving nozzles hit the product passing underneath at up to 240 times per second (two passes at 120 hits per second). This sharp pulsing of concentrated ionised air creates powerful cleaning and static neutralisation.

It offers many benefits over alternative and conventional equipment.

4. SALES POINTS

A summary of the benefits and advantages:

DUST REMOVAL

Roto-Clean offers unrivalled cleaning efficiency and static neutralisation power. It leaves the product clean and static free.

Roto-Clean is optimised for cleaning statically attracted dust from three dimensional and flat objects. It is perfect for extremely structured components.

Why is it better than alternative nozzles and airknives?

a) The double-ended rotary nozzle turns at a frequency of 60 rotations per second to produce a focused and pulsed airflow for maximum cleaning performance. Pulsed air has greater cleaning power than a constant stream.

b) Double cleaning pass. Where the product passes the Roto-Clean on a conveyor, or similar moving system, there is a double cleaning action as it passes each side of the Roto-Clean.

c) The air jets from Roto-Clean hit the object in many different directions as it passes – this is more effective than air from a single direction. The turbulent nature of the airflow is very effective at cleaning complex shaped mouldings.

d) The air consumption is less than equivalent air knives and nozzles – the typical working pressure is 2-3 Bar compared to 5 – 6 Bar for nozzles and air knives. See technical data.

e) Roto-Clean is suitable for full integration into automatic processes.

STATIC NEUTRALISATION

The fast-moving air from the nozzles is ionised by the unique circular static eliminator, giving it the ability to neutralise static charge, release statically attracted dust and prevent re-attraction.

The ion intensity per cm3 of air is greater than for other cleaning products because of the 360° design and because less air volume is needed to clean the object. This results in better static neutralisation.

The static eliminator is based on the well-known 1250-S Bar design so is completely shockless and suitable for industrial applications. It is powered by a standard Fraser HP Power Unit.

VERSATILTY OF USE

The Roto-Clean has the versatility to be used in a range of different applications offering many advantages over conventional air nozzles and air knives. It is simple to install and integrate into existing machinery or cleaning systems.

In many horizontal or vertical conveyor-type applications it will be integrated into existing cleaning systems with air extraction.

It will also be used on robot arms – bringing the cleaning power to where it is needed. This offers great versatility over traditional cleaning - no need to adjust when moving from one moulding to another. Its light weight and flexible cable make it suitable for robots -the photo below shows Roto-Clean on a robot at one of our Beta test sites.

Cleaning range of 25 to >100 mm depending on air pressure.

5. MARKETS FOR ROTO-CLEAN

We are already well known in the automotive mouldings markets, supplying equipment to customers like Bosch, Hella, Faurecia, Continental and Valeo.

Automotive mouldings will be a very large target market for the Roto-Clean, but there will be other important sectors, too:

• medical and pharma mouldings • cleaning trays and carriers

• cleaning doors/ panels before painting • removing swarf from plastics machining

• cleaning furniture / melamine sheets • electrical assemblies

• cell phone assembly and painting • printed circuit boards

6. TECHNICAL MATTERS

COMPRESSED AIR

The actual air consumption is:

Liters / Min

I Bar 2 Bar 3.5 Bar

Roto-Clean 112 mm 78 80 82

Roto-Clean 178 mm 87 91 97

The air must be clean and dry, as in all cleaning and static neutralisation applications.

The operational pressure is from 1 Bar to 3.5 Bar, with a typical working pressure of 2 Bar.

Important: A pressure more than 3.5 Bar should not be used as it could damage the bearings.

A sensor is recommended to control the Roto-Clean so that it blows only when the object is within cleaning range.

Air supply fitting: 6 mm diameter push-in type.

SAFETY

Mechanical: The rotating energy of the rotating nozzle is so low that touching the rotating nozzle could possibly be painful, however no danger of injury exists.

Electrical: Circular static eliminator is resistively coupled giving a maximum pin energy of < 100 µA.

For Power Units see separate datasheets.

Noise: (without product) at 3.5 Bar < 80 dBA, lateral at 1 m.

RELIABILITY

The rotating nozzles are air powered by a patented centrifugal control and are designed to run freely. Physical contact with the object or other parts of the machinery could damage them.

The bearings of the rotating nozzle are spaced apart from the active compressed air by internal seals. The constructive alignment and a corresponding compressed air supply routing provide effective protection from lubricant leakage from inside the bearing or penetration of contamination.

Further sealing measures of the bearing chamber prevent loss of lubricant due to leakage.

Operating at above the maximum air pressure of 3.5 Bar could cause overpressure damage.

ENVIRONMENTAL

The rotating nozzles must not come into contact with dampness, wetness or aggressive media.

Max. operating conditions 0 – 50°C, max humidity 70% rH for Roto-Clean and Power Unit.
