Through It All the Seed Would Sprout and Grow – In the context of On Mission for The Church Alive!, maybe these words from today’s Gospel resonate true in your heart. Or maybe they are a challenge for you as you continue to seek a settled heart regarding the changes to our parishes that were recently announced. These changes aren’t easy for anyone, clergy and faithful alike. It means letting go of some things, taking on responsibility for others, and through it all building new relationships rooted in faith and love. Yet, the
focus of this initiative remains The Church Alive! While we may be challenged by what is taking place, the responsibility is on us as daughters and sons of God and as communities of faith to work for a Church that is ever more Alive! God plants the seeds of faith, hope and love in our hearts. Through prayer and good works we nourish those seeds in our hearts and the hearts of others so that they can sprout and grow no matter the circumstances. God’s grace works to strengthen us and the Church
even in the midst of change. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

CALL NOW FOR THE RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Year-Round RCIA Process: for adults and older teens who are seeking Baptism in the Catholic Church. These are encouraged to begin immediately; since each adult is expected to enter and follow a complete liturgical year. Another component of the RCIA can include baptized Christians who are seeking to join a Catholic Church. These may begin at any time and enter a period of faith formation according to their prior development and experience. And again this can be for Catholics who have not had the opportunity to celebrate the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist and need further formation in the Catholic faith. All those in the preceding categories meet weekly on Tuesday evenings, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Kolbe Room. For ages 7 to 14 children: a schedule can begin over these “lazy” summer months for those who have not yet been baptized, those who have been baptized in a Protestant tradition, or those who need a catch-up for Sacraments. Considering the dignity of each child, we offer an individualized learning experience. To enroll and be an important part of one of these groups, call the Office for RCIA, 412-276-1011 ext.225. We are anxiously waiting for your call!
EVERY MAN A KING A father is to his household as a king is to his kingdom: Both are charged to protect their people, from enemies without and from wrongdoers within. Because they are responsible for protecting their people, kings and fathers have the authority they require to fulfill their responsibility. King David abused his authority. He had the power of the king, but in one case he used his power not to protect his kingdom, but to indulge in sexual pleasure with a soldier’s wife. He further abused his power to arrange for the murder of the soldier, lest the king’s sin be discovered. The responsibility and authority of fatherhood require sacrifice. A father gives up his freedom and personal pleasures for the sake of protecting and providing for his family, and leading his children to maturity. In our own country, statistics show that a father is critically important to a family. The best way to predict whether a woman will live in poverty or have children out of wedlock is by checking to see whether she was raised in a house where her father lived. The same for men: Men raised in households by their own fathers are far less likely to live in poverty or go to jail. All the better if the father not only lives with but actually marries the mother. Let’s thank our fathers for their sacrifices, and let’s do our best to make sure all children are raised in households with both mothers and fathers. Happy Father’s Day!
Please remember the farewell reception for Nick Will is planned for next Sunday, June 24, at around 12:30 p.m. (after the 11:30 a.m. Mass).

UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY As we begin to intentionally welcome parishioners to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton from the neighboring churches
within our Grouping, and as we visit them in their church homes, let us do so seeking the unity that Pope Francis
reminds us is so vital to the cause:
“…just as the body needs the lifeblood to keep it alive, so we must allow Jesus to work in us, that His
Word guide us, that His presence in the Eucharist nourish us, animate us, that His love gives strength to
our love of neighbor. And this always!
…there is a communion and unity: we are all in a relation to each other and we all come together to
form one living body, deeply connected to Christ…
…Unity is beyond all conflict. Unity is a grace that we must ask of the Lord so he may save us from the
temptations of the division, from internal struggles and selfishness, from gossip. …
…But we Catholics must pray with each other…Pray that the Lord gift us unity! Unity among
ourselves!...Seek unity, unity builds the Church and comes from Jesus Christ. He send us the Holy Spirit to
build unity!
…Dear brothers and sisters, let us ask God to help us to be members of the Body of the Church always
deeply united to Christ, help us not to hurt the Body of the Church with our conflicts, our divisions,
selfishness: help us to be living members bound to each other by a single power, that of love, which the
Holy Spirit pours into our hearts (cf Rom 5:5).”
~ excerpts from Pope Francis’ Wednesday message: 6/19/13
“The world is waiting for the Church to come alive
and be who we were made to be.” ~ Curtis Martin
