Sulzer (UK) Pumps of Leeds is to supply 48 pumps for 15 oil- flow s ta t ions in swamp land and in land areas of the Niger Delta in south west Nigeria. The order, exceeding £5 mill ion in value, was placed by Shell In ternat io- hale Pe t ro leum Maatschappi j BV of The Hague on behalf of Shell Pet ro leum Development Company of Nigeria.

The pumps will replace ex- isting uni ts from other manu- facturers. They are eleven-stage, a x i a l l y - s p l i t , h i g h p r e s s u r e types,, designed for easy main- tenance and long life in a rduous conditions. Driven by gas en-

g ines of US or ig in t h r o u g h s p e e d - i n c r e a s i n g g e a r b o x e s , t h e s p e c i f i c a t i o n s of e a c h p u m p will vary according to its dut ies at the par t i cu la r flow station. Before despatch, each p u m p will be proved on a test bed at the Leeds works, simu- lat ing the actual flow condi t ions they will experience on site.

Imo I n d u s t r i e s has r ecen t ly de l ivered th ree p u m p s , GTS type S208-112FGEM, to Petro- Peru, SA, the na t ional petro- leum corporat ion of Peru, for i n s t a l l a t ion a t the Sa ramuro pumping s ta t ion located in the nor thern Peruvian jungle near lquitos. Each p u m p is equipped with a fabricated (welded) steel case which conta ins a replace- able cast pearl i t ic iron rotor h o u s i n g w i t h i n w h i c h t h e p u m p i n g screws rota te . The replaceable pumping rotors are also of cast iron and moun ted to alloy steel shafts. Mechanical shaft seals are of the positive

drive design, Viton fitted and use a c a r b o n r u n n i n g face against a silicon carbide sta- t ionary seat. Pump casings are equipped with adjus table pres- sure relief valves for over pres- sure protection.

Each p u m p is rated to deli- ver 100 ga l /min (34 000 B/D; 277 m3/h) of residual oil at 960 r e v / m i n aga ins t a d i scharge pressure of 275 PSIG (19 bar) . M a x i m u m oil v i s cos i t y was specif ied a t 4500 SSU (970 cSt). The pumps were suppl ied with t ransmiss ions and clutches for drive by diesel engines. Each p u m p is instal led on a pon toon and used to unload 10 000 and 20 000 bar re l (420 000 a nd 840 000 g a l l o n ; 1590 a n d 3180 m 3) barges of res idual oil sh ipped on the Marafion river from the lquitos refinery. The residual oil is delivered to s to rage t a n k a g e of 450 000 b a r r e l (18 900 000 g a l l o n ; 71 500 m 3) capacity through a 10 in (254 mm) p ipe l ine , a dis tance of 200 m (650 ft). The residual oil is b lended with crude oil and piped to Bayovar on the Pacific coast via the Peruvian T r a n s - A n d e a n Pipe- line, 846 km (525 miles) of 36 inch (914 mm) diameter.
