(See flyer on page 5). Volunteer instructors and donations to cover the cost of materials and lunches for the Veteran participants are needed. The presentation will be an introduction to resistance welding, as most in the audience will be far more familiar with MIG/TIG/other material-added processes. It will provide an overview of the resis-tance welding process, as well as application examples (both photos and parts to pass around). We will also discuss machine types and power supplies, as well as recent advances in resistance welding controls.
Niels Johnson is National Sales Manager for LORS Machinery, and a member of the Education and Marketing Committees of the Resistance Welding Manufacturers’ Alliance (RWMA), of which LORS is a mem-ber. Meritorious Awards
District Meritorious Awards are given as a means of recognizing AWS members who have performed some definite or outstanding service to a Section, a District or to the Soci-ety. Form these exemplary activities, the member has made outstanding contributions to the enhancement of the art and science of welding.
District Educator Award
The Howard E. Adkins Instructor Membership Award is sponsored by Mrs. Wilma Adkins and family, and is given as a means of recognizing high school, trade school, technical institute or junior college instructors whose teaching activities are consid-ered to have advanced the knowledge of welding to students in their re-spective schools.
District Private Sector Instructor Award
This award was established by the AWS Board of Directors as a means of honoring educators in the welding community teaching in private facili-ties. These individuals, in the opin-ion of the AWS Awards Committee, have advanced the knowledge of welding to their students through apprenticeship programs, internal corporate training programs, and similar nonpublic educational activi-ties.
District CWI of the Year Award
The District Director and District Awards Subcommittee may select an individual or individuals from names submitted by their respective Sec-tions to receive the District CWI of the Year Award. The certificate will

Distinguished Welder Award
This award will recognize an indi-vidual whose welding skills and ex-perience would earn her or him the recognition of being an AWS Distin-guished Welder. A nomination packet should include information addressing the Definition and candi-date’s Application Criteria as out-lined in the AWS Distinguished Welding Award Nomination Form. The focus of the nomination packet should include specifics of the indi-vidual’s skills.
