Located in the Afan Valley just two miles north of Port Talbot, the South Wales town of Cwmavon is a short drive from both the city of Swansea, and the lovely Welshcountryside. Transport links
Located just off the A4107, and junctions 40 and 41 of the M4, Cwmavon has good road links to the rest of the Afan Valley and out to larger towns and cities. Port Talbotis just 5 minutes away by car, or 35 minutes on foot. Swansea is 20 minutes by car along the M4 and A483, and Cardiff is 40 minutes away via the M4.
There is no railway station in Cwmavon, but Port Talbot Parkway links to Swansea in less than 30 minutes and Cardiff in 35 minutes. The train from Port Talbot goes allthe way to London Paddington, with a journey time of two hours and 40 minutes.
Cardiff Airport is the nearest international airport.
Places of interest
Cwmavon is ideally placed for exploring the Welsh countryside, and close to two major country parks at Margam and Gnoll. Margam Country Park is a 1000 acre estatewith an 18th century orangery, ornamental gardens, deer park and rare breeds farm trail. Margam Castle is a 19th century Gothic mansion with a long history, while theMargam Train - a diesel-powered locomotive - runs on a narrow gauge railway, and operates through the spring and summer months.
Gnoll Estate Country Park has 230 acres of parkland, with sights including the Gnoll House ruins and 18th century cascades and Grotto. For those who enjoy adrenalinesports, Afan Forest Park is a haven for mountain bikers, with five single-track trails covering over 100km. The forest also has gentle cycle routes for families.
In Cwmavon itself, Welfare Ground is the home of Cwmavon Football Club who play in the Port Talbot & District League. Parc Siencyn Powell has a football pitch, tenniscourts and bowling green.
For local history, the South Wales Miners Museum - the first miners museum in Wales - is situated on the edge of Afan Forest Park. Aberdulais Tinworks and Waterfall andthe National Waterfront Museum are just a short drive away.
Cwmavon is also close to a number of beaches including Aberavon Beach in Port Talbot and Rest Bay in Porthcawl. Kenfig National Nature Reserve is a sand dunereserve with paths and boardwalks near Bridgend.
Educational facilities
Located close to Swansea, Cwmavon benefits from great education at Swansea University and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Swansea Campus.
