We now feel the time is right to extend our departure points and offer a dedicated day excursion brochure for the Somerset area with local departure points. This brochure will bring you the best of our established venues and a selection of new ideas if you are looking for something different… Our brochure has something for everyone.

Our fleet of coaches are always well maintained, every vehicle is fitted with seat belts, and all have air- conditioning. We take great care in recruiting experienced drivers who take pride in their profession and who are committed to making your day out as special as you deserve.

ARLINGTON COURT & CARRIAGE MUSEUM (NAT TRUST) Nestled on the edge of Exmoor, the Arlington Court estate was held by the Chichester family for over 500 years. There is a fascinating display of artefacts collected by generations of the Chichester family, together with a new exhibition of ships collected by Sir Francis Chichester’s round the world voyage. The gardens and grounds include a formal Victorian garden and conservatory and miles of pathways leading to a beautiful lake-edge walk. The Carriage Museum has a vehicle for every occasion from cradle to grave with many special carriages on show. The tearoom is set in the original Victorian kitchen, using locally grown produce, and the gift shop offers a splendid array of gifts.

ROYAL GARDENS TOUR AT HIGHGROVE Early booking essential (Photographic ID must be taken on the day) HRH The Prince of Wales is proud to open his estate to the public for guided tours of the Royal Gardens for a limited time each year. The gardens have been designed and managed to the organic and sustainable principles so close to his Royal Highness’ heart. The gardens include wild flower meadows, vegetable gardens and rare apple trees, amongst colourful herbaceous borders. Wildlife is actively encouraged and thrives in a beautifully maintained environment. The 2 hour tour, led by one of Highgrove’s experts, highlights the Prince’s own horticultural ideas and his displays his creativity & imagination. The gift shop offers a wide range of beautiful hand crafted and organic gifts.

BOCONNOC GARDENS OPEN DAY Created by Thomas Pitt in 1780, the gardens of the Boconnoc Estate are tucked away in a quiet corner of Cornwall near Lostwithiel. The Garden Open Day offers the public a chance to see a true Cornish garden in all its glory, which bursts into life with rhododendrons, azaleas & camelias, a rainbow of colours sweeping across the estate in Spring time. Shady ancient tree canopies, lake-edge walks, and picturesque gardens all make for a beautiful day out.

BRITANNIA ROYAL NAVAL COLLEGE, DARTMOUTH (Photographic ID must be taken on the day) The Britannia Royal Naval College has a long military history. The guided tour of the Naval base offers a fascinating insight into the history of Naval training, together with a guide of this iconic Dartmouth building including the chapel, Gun room, Quarter Deck and Captain’s Flat with its collection of paintings and naval artefacts. (Please note there is a considerable amount of walking, and this may not suitable for those with walking aids).

TALL SHIPS FESTIVAL, GLOUCESTER HISTORIC DOCKYARD The historic dockyard at Gloucester hosts the Tall Ships Festival this year, with some truly magnificent traditional ships, bringing maritime history to life, with fun for all the family including marauding pirates, swash buckling shows and shanty musical folk entertainment. Step aboard and see these stunning tall ships first hand, experience live battle re-enactments on the docks, and soak up the festivities of the day as Gloucester Docks comes alive with tales of the open seas. There will be plenty of stalls filled with delicious food and drink, crafts and lots, lots more besides.

RHS GARDEN ROSEMOOR An original garden surrounded by a tranquil woodland, RHS Garden Rosemoor was created by Lady Anne Berry, as a true plantsman’s garden. Here you will find ornamental shrubs, a cottage garden, stone garden, stream & rock gully garden together with an array of Roses, hopefully blooming at this time of year (season/weather permitting). The award winning restaurant serves delicious light bites, hot lunches and afternoon tea and there is a gift shop.

THE ROYAL MINT EXPERIENCE Located in South Wales, the newly opened Royal Mint Experience is the only place in the world where you can see the United Kingdom’s coins being made. Go behind the scenes on a fascinating factory tour to discover how 1000 years of craftsmanship and skill, together with cutting-edge technology comes together to make coins & medals for over 60 countries. Learn how coins are made from raw materials, and how the designs are intricately imprinted on the face and rims. Try your hand at making your own coin, before exploring the interactive zone & gift shop.

BUCKINGHAM PALACE STATE ROOMS… 2017 EXHIBITION OF “ROYAL GIFTS” This year’s special exhibition at Buckingham Palace is a splendid collection of “Royal Gifts” which have been presented to Her Majesty The Queen during the past 65 years, The exquisite display includes gifts representing every continent and those from world leaders. Explore 19 magnificent State Rooms still used today to receive and entertain Royal guests on State, Ceremonial & Official occasions. Glittering chandeliers, beautiful pieces of furniture, art work by world masters and exquisite porcelain are all on display and can be viewed in rooms such as the Throne Room, Music Room & White Drawing Room – perhaps the grandest of all the state rooms.

BICTON PARK BOTANICAL GARDENS Spanning nearly 300 years of horticultural history, these beautiful Grade 1 listed gardens in the Devonshire Otter Valley are home to rare

plants from around the world set within 63 acres. There are many types of garden zones including an Italian Garden, Mediterranean & Rose Garden, Hermitage Garden, Pinetum & Arboretum and American Stream Garden, and the four stunning glasshouses have a spectacular display of plants from around the world.

THE FLYING SCOTSMAN West Somerset Railway will host the much loved “Flying Scotsman” with a spectacular steam train ride along 20 miles of heritage line passing beautiful Somerset countryside and coastal scenery. One of the most powerful locomotives, it was clocked at 100 mph in 1934, making it the fastest locomotive in the world. Join us for a nostalgic journey on this world-famous locomotive during its visit to the West Country.

“A LITTLE OF WHAT YOU FANCY” … A LYRICS & LAUGHTER PRODUCTION SHOW If you miss those good old fashioned “knees up” shows, then this is one for you! A Music Hall show filled with merriment and mirth, a fast moving, foot tapping, hilarious sing-a-long that guarantees great entertainment and a fabulous day out. The show includes an afternoon cream tea, served at your table during the interval.

CHARLECOTE PARK (NAT TRUST) This Victorian mansion overlooks the River Avon, in quietly nestled on the edge of Shakespeare’s Stratford Upon Avon. A family home for over 900 years, Charlecote Park today displays a vision of the Victorian owners George & Mary Hammond-Lucy who extended their home and filled it with treasures from their European travels. The traditional kitchen is brought to life in cooking and costumed characters, as is the laundry, stables & brewhouse to experience life from a servant’s perspective. The gardens and parkland offer tranquil walks in a beautiful natural setting, with fallow deer and one of Warwickshire’s largest heronries. The Orangery Tea Room serves delicious lunches and sumptuous afternoon, and a shop with local produce and delightful gifts.

BRISTOL AEROSPACE … HOME OF THE ICONIC CONCORDE Bristol’s newest attraction opens this summer, telling the story of the city’s aerospace industry and a chance to step onboard the iconic Concorde. Designed, built & tested in Bristol, Concorde 216 was the final Concorde to be built and the last to fly, capable of cruising at over twice the speed of sound and crossing the Atlantic in under 3 hours. The Aerospace attraction also features exhibits and over 8000 archives from the earliest days of flight when “Boxkite” biplanes flew across Bristol, planes from both world wars and today’s high-tech aerospace industry.

SEATS Please inform our office staff at time of booking if you have any specific needs.

PAYMENT is required within 7 days of booking unless previously agreed with the management of Blakes Coaches.

CANCELLATION must be notified to our reservations office. If more than 48 hours before excursion date, it will be subject to a 40% cancellation fee of the coach element and 100% of the admission, ticket or meal as applicable, which we will have purchased in advance. If less than 48 hours before excursion date, the cancellation fee will be 100% of the total paid. For any tour, please see our main holiday brochure terms and conditions.

CONCESSIONS Special fares are available on some excursions for senior citizens and children aged under 14 years. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

DISCOUNTS are available for group bookings of more than 20 seats on same excursion.

GENERAL We reserve the right to cancel excursions should insufficient numbers be booked or adverse weather conditions dictate.
