The Gold Museum is located in Bogota, Colombia. It displays an extraordinary
selection of its prehispanic gold work collection (the biggest in the world) in its
exhibition rooms on the second and third floors. Together with other pottery, stone,
shell, wood and textile archeological objects, these items, made of what indigenous
cultures was a sacred metal, testify to the life and thought of different societies which
inhabited what is known as Colombia before contact was made with Europe.
In 1993 the Bank of the Republic began helping to protect the archaeological
patrimony of Colombia. The object known as Poporo Quimbaya was the first one in a
collection. It has been on exhibition for 65 years.

Monserrate is a mountain that dominates the city center of Bogota; it rises to 3,152
meters above the sea level, the church was started to build in 1620 and it finished in
1925.
The hill is a pilgrim destination, as well as a tourist attraction. In addition to the church,
the summit contains restaurants, cafeteria, souvenir shops and many smaller tourist
facilities. Monserrate can be accessed by aerial tramway, a funicular or by climbing,
the preferred way of pilgrims.
All downtown Bogota, south Bogota and some sections of the city are visible facing
west, making it a popular destination for watching the sun set over the city.
