Need for evidence

It is insufficient to provide decision makers with:

• Descriptions of the development of the service

• Interview with 4 happy patients

• Quotes from 5 dedicated nurses

• A guess of the hospital savings from the company

Decision makers want scientific evidence:

• Published clinical studies of health outcomes

• Studies of patient acceptability

• Health economic evaluation and business cases

• Organizational studies

Page 34: New ENGAGING PATIENTS AND EHEALTH INNOVATION AT … · 2017. 8. 16. · Odense University Hospital (OUH) • 1 of 3 major national health care centres • Covers approximately 1.6

Step 1: preceding assessment:

• Are the technology and the organization mature?

• The right technology for the right patient group

Step 2: multidisciplinary assessment (domains):

• 1. Health problem and characteristics of the application

• 2. Safety

• 3. Clinical effectiveness

• 4. Patient perspectives

• 5. Economic aspects

• 6. Organisational aspects

• 7. Socio-cultural, ethical and legal aspects

Step 3:

Transferability assessment:

• Cross-border

• Scalability

• Generalizability
