Kiwara at Odense ZooOdense, Denmark
Journey up the Kiwara River APA worked with project architects and Odense Zoo staff to develop Kiwara, an African-themed exhibit conceptually arranged around a journey up a fictional African river. The exhibit goal was to interpret the Zoo’s African animals by way of an engaging exploration of African habitats and animal adaptations.
The Kiwara experience places Odense Zoo’s African animals in exciting, immersive, spaces—an expansive aviary filled with birds, a vanilla warehouse teeming with playful lemurs, and an upriver journey to a rich savannah populated with zebras, ostriches and giraffes. Central to the experience is a role-playing program that allows young visitors to become field researchers, such as wildlife biologists, ornithologists and paleontologists, tackling fun fact-finding challenges as they journey up the Kiwara River.
APA developed and delivered a complete design for the Kiwara experience, from a formally articulated conceptual approach to detailed design documentation.
