PROGRAMDIT prepares you to meet and exceed the expectations of the commercial diving industry by focusing
on team success. You’ll develop skills in leadership and support roles, learn industry “best practices” for
safety, and participate in cooperative decision-making.
PHYSICS & MEDICINE
These subjects form the basis of everything
divers will encounter from depth & pressure
to gas laws that affect divers. Charting,
decompression tables, and chamber
operations are the tools you will use every
day to ensure you and your team’s safety.
Conduct your first chamber dive to 60 feet.
MONTH 1
LIGHTWEIGHT & RIGGING
Get familiar with your surface-supplied
diving gear and procedures before making
your first dives to 20 fsw. You’ll use hand
tools (hacksaws, flange, straps, shackles,
come along, lift bags), then earn your API
Rigging Qualification after learning the
basics of rigging, maritime vocabulary, and
hands-on techniques.
MONTH 2
OFFSHORE & HAZMAT
Your new skills are put to the test on mid-
water projects at depths to 40 fsw. With
an emphasis on real-life scenarios, dive
planning, teamwork and diver safety drills,
you’ll incorporate tools, pipeline, and HazMat
training into your daily class activities.
MONTH 3
UNDERWATER WELDING & BURNING
Practice laying beads topside then test your
welds during observed tank dives. Cut steel
topside before tackling open water burning
projects using Broco® rods that burn at up
to 10,000 degrees. You’ll also learn
inspection techniques of Non-Destructive
Testing (NDT).
MONTH 4
HYDRAULICS & SALVAGE
You’ll complete projects with underwater
chainsaws, jackhammers, impact wrenches
and hull scrubbers. Then plan and complete
the salvage of a 26’ steel barge as a team
project to apply Salvage Theory to Practical
Salvage Diving.
MONTH 5
SCUBA & INLAND
You’ll begin with pool, Open Water and full
face mask training for your commercial
& NAUI SCUBA certifications. Then you’ll
practice surface supplied inland operations
using NDT inspection methods on concrete
and wood piles and concluding with wet bell
operations and safety drills.
MONTH 6
DEEP DIVES
Dive from the 65’ M/V Response to 165 fsw
in Lake Washington on open water. Conduct
low visibility dives while employing Surface
Decompression with Oxygen procedures.
Finish with Mixed Gas Theory, Job Placement,
and Finals before beginning your diving
career.
MONTH 7
7 month900-Hour Program
Each segment of the course builds on the previous months’ topics to prepare you to excel in the industry.

WATER EVERYWHERE!
At our campus on Lake Union, you’ll learn in the classroom, on floating barges, aboard DIT’s diving
vessel the M/V Response, and, of course, in the lake. You’ll also dive multiple offsite locations
throughout the Seattle area where you learn to adapt to the challenges of various underwater terrains
and equipment requirements.
MURKY WATER.
Take advantage of the realistic training conditions in Lake Union, Lake Washington, and the Puget
Sound. While other divers might be afraid of cold or dark water, your skills will be honed in it.
SO MANY OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
The Puget Sound area offers you unparalleled outdoor opportunities. Hiking, fishing, snowboarding,
surfing, mountain biking, backpacking, and camping are all nearby. You’ll have easy access to the
