Fourth Sunday of Easter PAGE 3 May 3, 2020
Religious Education News
I am not capable of doing big things, but I want to do everything, even the smallest things,
for the greater glory of God. St. Dominic Savio, Feast day May 6
So, what's going on in your life? How are you handling all this COVID-19 stuff? What are you doing to keep yourself busy? And how are you supposed to answer any of those questions? It's not like the bulletin has a "Comment" button.
Well, what I've been doing during this time of isolation gives us a means to respond to such questions. Like many people, I'm working mostly from home now, sit-ting at my computer. (Don't worry, I do get up and exercise every now and then. I'm not turning into a "computer pota-to.") I'm technology-oriented so I have enjoyed learning how to publish things on our parish website at https://SaintBasilCatholicChurch.org. It gives me a way to com-municate with at least some of the parishioners -- the ones who can access the website. I've been having fun creating various kinds of content for the site: a page with more or less random things; a page of reflections I write every now and then, most often based on something I've read in prayer; and a page that asks (and eventually answers) Catholic trivia questions. (I just learned how to add forms to the website. Can you tell?)
Well, that last one gives you a way to answer a question like the ones at the beginning of my article. I've created a new page on the website that asks a question and gives you a chance to respond. You can get to it by clicking on Fr. Jim's Corner > Weekly Question. Depending on how many responses we get, and how much room we have, we will publish a number of them in next week's bulletin. Giving your name is optional but, if you give it, it will be printed next to your response. So, want to tell folks what you've been doing in this goofy time? Head on over to the website. If you know someone who can't access the website give them the question and they can call in their response if they want.
Meanwhile, we're all waiting to see when this will end. Bishop Bradley had online meetings with his priests and deacons this week to discuss how we may end up going about getting things back to normal. Stopping operations was quick. Starting them up again may turn out to be com-plicated. I'll let you know more as soon as I am able. Fr. Jim
Rice Bowl You may drop off your Rice Bowl contributions any time the church is open for prayer. Please place
them on the table in the back of church. They will be collected daily.
Daily Mass is livestreamed and available on our St. Basil Church website! Visit www.saintbasilcatholicchurch.org and click on Mass times. The livestream from Word on Fire is on that page. The Diocese of Kalamazoo livestreams daily Mass on their Facebook page, and we have a link on our website for that Mass.
And don’t forget our St. Basil Sunday Mass, livestreamed at 9:00 a.m. on Facebook, with music!
Due to the stay-at-home order currently in place through May 15, Confirmation, which was scheduled to be held at the 5:00 Mass on Saturday, May 9, has been postponed. The Confirmation Mass will hopefully be rescheduled for late summer or fall. We pray that the Holy Spirit continues to guide and support our youth in their journeys toward this life-affirming sacrament. Because we are unable to meet face-to-face, we also ask that parents and sponsors assist the Confirmation leaders by providing opportunities for our candidates to grow in faith by encour-aging individual and family prayer, by participating as a family in weekly Mass online or on television, and by taking advantage of the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) at 2:00 p.m. on Mondays or 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays at the Church. Additional resources are available online at diokzoo.org and at AscensionPress.com.
"Fr. Jim's Corner," found in the toolbar of our parish web-site, www.saintbasilcatholicchurch.org,, explains a new virtual Sunday evening Youth Group, supported by almost 50 Diocese from around the country, with over 2000 teen participants. The website is https://ProjectYM.com/live. Check it out and sign up to "attend." Whether you join in this session or not, you are invited to face-time with other youth in the parish through a Zoom "meeting" at 9:00 p.m. on Sundays, following the ProjectYM session. Let's move one step closer to "face-to-face!" God bless.
"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 8:38-39

Our next Zoom session will be this Sunday, May 3, at 12:30 p.m. We will talk about the Psalms and the 5 forms of prayer. It will last approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
St. Basil - Did You Know?
Our patron, Saint Basil the Great (329 -379 ) was born in Caesarea Cappa-docia, about 165 miles east of modern day Turkey. Caesarea was an important center of Christianity in the fourth century. St Basil was one of the early church
fathers who defended the Orthodox faith against the Arian heresy. St. Basil’s feast day is January 2.

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS REPLENISHING
Please, if you are able, consider donating non-perishable food to the We Care I.N.C. Food Pantry. If there
was ever a time to feed the hungry, this is it.
We have moved the drop-off location to ensure that the items make it to the appropriate agencies. Items should be dropped off in the church near the office. You may also take non-perishable items to First Congregation-al Church, 651 Phoenix Street, during this national health crisis. They are open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 a.m. till noon.
Personal Care Pantry We will also accept contributions to the Personal Care Pantry. We Care I.N.C. asks for items such as laundry soap, shampoo, hand soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes. We will continue the collection through the month of May.

St. Basil Bear Spirit Week—Virtual Style Favorite Pet/Stuffed Animal Day, and
Play a Game/Work a Puzzle Day
Well, the tech gremlins have struck again! While I certainly expected an uptick in glitches during this time of distance learning, I certainly didn't see the current snafu coming. Due to a domain name issue that we are currently working to straighten out, our emails and our school website are down. If you need to reach me, please contact me at 269-637-3529 (please leave a message and it will be forwarded to me) or [email protected]. You may also stop by the school office on Mondays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You never realize how much you rely on technology until it goes awry!
However, this hasn't stopped us from moving forward with our students and their academics. It's been an adjustment for all, but I am amazed at how well our students have adapted. They really seem to enjoy the class video chats and lessons conducted by their teachers; it gives them an opportunity to see their friends for a bit and just reconnect in some way.
This week we did a Basil Bear Fun Week with our families, each day having a different "theme". Families were asked to either email pictures to teachers or post them on Facebook to share. It was a fun way to break up some of the monotony of the past couple weeks.
Thank you for your continued support during these difficult times. Please know that we all appreciate it, and that you are in my thoughts and prayers! Camille DeLano, Principal

The Lord is my shepherd,
there is nothing I shall want.
Dear Brothers and Sisters, The month of May is approaching, a time when the People of God express with particular intensity their love and devotion for the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is traditional in this month to pray the Rosary at home within the family. The restrictions of the pandemic have made us come to appreciate all the more this “family” aspect, also from a spiritual point of view. For this reason, I want to encourage everyone to redis-cover the beauty of praying the Rosary at home in the month of May. This can be done either as a group or individually; you can decide according to your own situations, making the most of both opportunities. The key to doing this is always simplicity, and it is easy also on the internet to find good models of prayers to follow.
Pope Francis, 4/25/2020
O Mary, You shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the foot of the cross, were united with Jesus’ suffering, and persevered in your faith. “Protectress of the Roman people”, you know our needs, and we know that you will provide, so that, as at Cana in Galilee, joy and celebration may return after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us. For he took upon himself our suffering, and burdened himself with our sorrows to bring us, through the cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.
We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God; Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from every danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.
