MADCAAP FOOD PANTRY STILL NEEDS OUR HELP!

56% of Mississippi's senior citizens don't have enough to eat ,

while 24% of our state's children go to bed hungry (According to

MSFN).

MadCAAP's Food Pantry distributes food boxes to 100 client

families each week. Without fail, the need far exceeds what Mad-

CAAP has on hand.

Your donations of food will enable MadCAAP to continue feed-

ing our elders and our children. Putting food on a family's table

demonstrates love for our neighbors.

Won't you bring A CAN OF VEGETABLES OR FRUITS, MAC & CHEESE, 1-LB. BAGS OF RICE, SPA-

GHETTI SAUCE, AND PASTA to insure that we can continue feeding the hungry in our community? A dona-

tion table is located in the Fellowship Hall, or you can drop off at MadCAAP on Mondays and Wednesdays from

PARENTS & STUDENTS … The Student Ministry is having our annual Family Disci-

pleship night on August 19. We will have dinner, play

games, worship together, and learn together! I hope that you

and your student will come! Our Speaker this year is our

own Rev. Ben Butler. Ben will share with us his heart for

Family Discipleship and what it might look like for families

with kids to "be in ministry/mission" together. A nursery

will be available for younger siblings. To help with plan-

ning, please let me know if you are coming and if you will

need childcare! If you have questions or need more info, please let us know!

The Student Ministry at Madison UMC needs two brave individuals who

are willing to spend 45 minutes each Sunday morning teaching the Word

of God to the next generation. You don’t need to have extensive Biblical

education or be a scholar, you just need to let God use you! If you are in-

terested in teaching Sunday school this year (August through July), con-

tact Cory!

HEY, HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT …

TEACHING SUNDAY SCHOOL?

Before you automatically say, “NO,” hear me out!

I was thinking of all the reasons people tell me that can’t

teach Sunday School (some of them are listed below), and as

I was rereading Christopher Miles Ritter’s Seven Things

John Wesley Expected Us to Do for Kids, this really hit home – “We are called to ministry with children ‘gift or no

gift.’ As wonderful and needful as spiritual gifts are to the church, the lack of these gifts in not a legitimate excuse

for non-participation. To minister to children, as we ought, we are going to need to stretch ourselves. We need to

move past our comfort, over our excuses, outside our perceived gifts, and beyond…”

But, I’m not qualified … You do NOT have to be a Bible scholar to share Jesus with our children; you ONLY

need a heart for Jesus and a desire to share His love!

But I need to attend my Sunday School class to grow in my personal faith … the blessings you receive from

sharing your love for Jesus and the relationships you develop with our children (and their parents) will help fuel

your personal faith journey!

But I don’t want to teach every Sunday … we do ask for a school year commitment (a semester a minimum) be-

cause the same teacher(s) every Sunday helps reassure the children, helps the children develop lasting relation-

ships with Christian mentors, and helps improve the learning environment. You can always ask a friend to “team

teach” with you; this allows you to work around vacations, ball games, etc.

But … if you have questions or concerns about teaching, the commitment, etc., please let me know!

Our new Sunday School year begins on August 12, 2018, and ends in August 2019. Email or call me to volunteer!

ATTENTION RISING 1ST GRADERS & THEIR PARENTS…

1st graders are growing and learning so fast, and we think you are ready to learn more about how we worship in the

Methodist Church. One way you learn new things is to attend worship services on Sunday morning. Beginning Au-

gust 5, all of our 1st graders will remain in the Sanctuary for the entire worship service. Come down for Chil-

dren’s Time and then go sit with your parents for the remainder of the service.

PROMOTION SUNDAY IS AUGUST 5

During the Sunday School hour (9:45-10:30), children will meet their new teachers and enjoy a donut breakfast.

Room numbers and locations for Children’s Sunday School classes are available at the check-in desks in both the

Nursery Hall & the KIDS Hall.
