IntroductionUptime: Designed for Service. This is a simple phrase that perfectly encapsulates Freightliner’s orientation toward this essential RCO pillar. Downtime costs add up quickly. When developing the new Cascadia, significant attention was given to improving vehicle uptime over the already reliable Cascadia. Results led to a number of improvements to the Cascadia that are immediately evident to anyone who needs to perform maintenance on the truck. Here are some of the features, advantages and benefits you can talk to your customer about under the Uptime pillar of RCO.

Splayed Frame RailsA major enhancement to the new Cascadia comes in the form of a new frame-rail design. Splayed frame rails help create more room in the engine compartment, while simultaneously helping make the truck ride and handle even more smoothly. The new frame design provides more room around the engine and allows technicians easy access for maintenance tasks.

Routing and ClippingElectrical wiring routing and clipping have been improved, enhancing quality by reducing potential rubbing and chaffing, and reducing frequency of repair.

Engine and Radiator MountsNew engine and radiator mounts help to reduce vibrations and provide enhanced reliability for decreased downtime.

Newly Designed Two-Piece BumperThe new Cascadia comes standard with a two-piece front bumper that allows for easy partial replacement if only one side is damaged. It is mounted behind the hood, minimizing damage in a frontal impact. And since the bumper is a critical access point for front vehicle repairs, it can be removed in two minutes and replaced easily by a single technician.

Removable Front Fender Splash GuardsThe front fender splash guards of the Cascadia can be easily removed in three minutes, creating an open area for technicians to work on the engine, further reducing downtime.

Three Piece HoodThe hood’s three-piece design allows for individual panel replacement, should the hood become damaged, making replacement quick, easy and less expensive than full hood replacement.

Gas-Assisted Hood StrutThe gas-assisted hood strut allows for very easy hood opening. The hood tilts nearly 90 degrees for excellent engine access and easy windshield washer, coolant and power steering fluid level checks.

WindshieldThe new windshield features asymmetric construction—a thicker outer layer laminated to a thinner, inner layer to improve impact resistance. The thicker outer layer of glass results in the ability to absorb increased impact energy before the glass breaks. The thinner, inner layer complies with federal regulations designed to prevent large object intrusion. These features improve the overall durability of the windshield, thus increasing the uptime of the truck.

Air FilterThe new Cascadia features a newly designed, larger, seven-inch air filter that increases airflow and serviceability with less frequent replacement intervals.

New Electrical System The new electrical system on the new Cascadia was designed for ease of customization, flexibility and excellent reliability. It is designed with a dedicated ground return, minimizing battery voltage drop. When the battery voltage drops, the progressive low voltage disconnect system shuts down comfort, hotel, and basic functions in sequence. This provides for increased operational efficiency and reduced downtime.

Multiplex WiringThe multiplexing system reduces the number of wires required while providing ease of access for improved serviceability. Multiplexed switches allow for easy relocation of switches based on driver preferences.

eVault for ECU StorageMost electronic control units (ECUs) are now stored securely inside the cab in the new eVault for easier accessibility for diagnostics and protection from the elements. The eVault is located behind the right side of the dash.

Fuse Relay BoxIn front of the eVault is the fuse and relay box, which is easily accessible with no hand tools needed.

Top Dash RemovalTo increase dash component accessibility, the top dash panel was designed to be easily removed. For instance, repair work on the primary HVAC system can be easily accomplished by removing the top dash cover, rather than pulling the entire dash, significantly reducing maintenance costs and downtime.

Interior and Exterior LED LightingInterior and exterior LED lighting improves visibility and enhances interior aesthetics while reducing maintenance costs. These LED bulbs can last 20 times longer that incandescent bulbs, making the lighting system more maintenance-friendly and reducing downtime and repair costs.

Exterior Bulb Pre-Trip Inspection SystemThe optional Exterior Bulb Pre-Trip Inspection System helps drivers confirm that all lights are functioning correctly before it becomes a safety hazard or causes a fine. The pre-trip light inspection system allows the driver to visually confirm that the exterior lights are working properly during a quick-and-easy pre-trip inspection walkaround.
