The ability to capture, transmit and analyze data directly from vehicles empowers customers and can help them dramatically improve efficiency and their bottom line. Connectivity and TelematicsThere are two main parts to overall vehicle connectivity:

• Connectivity: ties customers to the OEM experts and provides information and insights into vehicle performance. This is Detroit Connect.

• Telematics: focuses on fleet management solutions by relaying data to the customer. Examples (PeopleNet, Omnitracs, Zonar, Telogis)

On the new Cascadia, Detroit Connect services are delivered via a newly designed connectivity platform. This new technology enables integration of third-party applications. When you combine Detroit Connect services with those of a telematics company, a fleet can dramatically improve its daily operations and vehicle efficiency.

Detroit ConnectDetroit Connect is DTNA’s suite of connected vehicle services. Detroit Connect is a product that falls under the Detroit components brand and includes three distinct features:

• Virtual Technician remote diagnostics• Remote Updates • Detroit Connect Analytics

Virtual TechnicianThe cornerstone of Detroit Connect is the Virtual Technician remote diagnostic system for Freightliner trucks equipped with Detroit engines.

• With Virtual Technician, customers are notified within minutes when their vehicles experience engine or aftertreatment fault events. They learn the severity of the fault and when, where and how to best fix the issue.

• Virtual Technician helps customers make informed business decisions so that they only service their vehicles when needed – spending less time in the shop, reducing diagnostic time and increasing vehicle uptime.

• Virtual Technician links customers with the experts at the Detroit Customer Support Center, whose main focus is to get the vehicles with severe fault events back on the road or directed to a convenient service location.

• Moving beyond the e-mail based communications, complete fault event details can also be viewed via the new Detroit Connect portal.

Remote UpdatesRemote Updates uses secure over-the-air programming capabilities and a cellular connection to facilitate:

• Customer-initiated engine parameter updates to customize performance • DTNA-initiated firmware updates• DDEC report downloads and the ability to reset the DDEC trip data accumulator

Benefits of Remote Updates include:• Fleets can change parameter settings on one or a hundred trucks, from a single location at

the same time. • Improves customers’ uptime by reducing the need to stop and physically connect the vehicle

at a service center in order to make engine performance-enhancing parameter updates.• Customers are assured of having the latest powertrain updates throughout their fleet.• Customers can execute parameter updates and reset the DDEC trip data accumulator using

a dedicated interface in the Detroit Connect portal.

Detroit Analytics ReportsDetroit Analytics provides users with on-demand, automated fuel efficiency and safety analysis reports. Fleets use the expertise of DTNA to quickly identify behaviors, trends, root causes and key insights on fuel consumption and safety performance data across the fleet. These services translate complicated vehicle performance data into actionable intelligence, putting the power of connectivity into the hands of the fleet.

Fuel Economy Analytics• Fuel economy analysis is done on a per trip basis• Fleets can aggregate and compare vehicles based on customized parameters. For example,

a fleet could compare the fuel economy of its long haul vs. short haul vehicles, or sleepers vs. day cabs.

• Views are available by trip for an individual vehicle or across an entire fleet or segment of the fleet

Safety Analytics• Fleets can define their own safety scorecard by weighting the various event types captured

in Safety Analytics• The scorecard can be used as a driver coaching tool• Safety score can be combined with the fuel economy score to create an overall driver score

Standard Five-Year Service Subscription for the New CascadiaThe new Cascadia comes standard with a five-year, no cost Detroit Connect service subscription, which includes Virtual Technician, Remote Updates and access to the Detroit Connect portal. Two other service package subscriptions are available: Fuel Efficiency Package only or Fuel Efficiency and Safety Package.

Detroit Connect Portal The Detroit Connect portal is a one-stop site for data insights, including Virtual Technician, Remote Updates and Analytics. Some uses include:

• Utilize the vehicle analytics page to get a quick overview of a fleet’s health• Track and manage fault events in real time• Quickly browse severity with the fault event inbox• Dive into the fault diagnosis pages for added detail• View fuel data by individual trips and compare trip data to lifetime averages• Get access to a simple, customizable collection of relevant safety data

Detroit Connect Mobile AppThe Detroit Connect mobile app, with push notification functionality, will give fleets more flexibility in utilizing vehicle data to make decisions to help improve uptime, fuel efficiency and safety performance.

Zonar Telematics PartnerZonar is Detroit’s preferred telematics partner. Zonar Ground Traffic Control web-based fleet tracking application and Zonar 2020 Android communications tablet services can be integrated with the new connectivity platform installed on all new Cascadia’s. Additionally, pre-wire options are available for other third-party telematics providers.
