Mark The Indianola Garden Club will be doing something different for our March meeting.  We will be going to Molly Ward’s Garden outside Poulsbo for lunch and a tour of the gardens.  All members will be getting an email with further instructions, as we will need a reliable count for this meeting.  It should be a fun time to see what is there and blooming in March.  The price will be $15 per person for lunch and the tour, and is payable that day. It will be on our usual Wednesday, March 18th, but lunch is at 11:00, an earlier time for things. For our February meeting, Jan Bahr of Roadside Nursery gave an enjoyable talk about water features.   If you have any garden club questions, please call Hollace at 297-3250 or Nina at 297-3884.

Neighbors,As it tends to with fewer days than every other month, February sure went by quickly. We are glad to have the quilters back another year to mark the changing of seasons.

March 11 will mark the end of an era. While it can start back up again with enough involvement (both kids and parents), Cub Scout Pack 4569 currently has only 4 boys that will all become Boy Scouts (Poulsbo) on March 11 @ 5:30 PM (all are welcome to attend the ceremony in the Pavilion and the end of the Dock.

Anyone interested in becoming one of the three nominating committee members should let me ([email protected]) or one of the Trustees know as soon as possible as I intend to fill these slots soon.

I hope to see you all at the Clubhouse in your orange or green for the next Social Club (aka St. Patrick’s Day) March 17.

The final opportunity I want to mention is the Clubhouse Spring Cleaning coming up in April. Many hands make light work and it is another great way to get to know one another as we spruce up the place a bit and clean out some cobwebs. There will be indoor and outdoor tasks available so please put April 11 on your calendar if you’d like to help, and email Emily Reckord at [email protected] for more information on this.

Respectfully,Dennis KilpatrickIBIC President

Paundy and Aunt Ange Bands Rock the Clubhouse

Paundy members, L to R are Drew McCabe, Leif Utne, Justine Jeanotte, barely visible behind her is Andy Miller, Tony Dattilo and Paul Burback. Not shown, Chad Channing

It was great music and good times at the Clubhouse in February during the high energy Paundy Party with Paundy and Aunt Ange.

Paundy played a mix of rock, Balkan, jazz and even some country. The band was started by Paul Burback and Andy Miller more than ten years ago as a way of writing some music for film and exploring various genres.

While the members of Paundy live throughout Kitsap, they generally consider Indianola home, and feel nothing is really as good as playing to the packed Clubhouse on the 21st.

Aunt Ange flew in from New York. They were a ton of fun and were blown away by the warmth of our community.

New Faces at the February Social Club If you’d gone to the February Social Club on the 19th you might have visited with the IBIC president, several of the club’s officers, a Port of Indianola commissioner, the editor of the Breeze and member of the Dock Fundraising Committee, a Port committee head, and some of our long-time residents. The next Social will be on St. Patrick’s Day, Tuesday, March 17th. See you there!

Three Container Ships, Whale Visit Port Madison

Top left: One of the resident eagles spent time in a fir tree near the dock to survey his domain.

Next, it was wall to wall quilters at the Clubhouse March 1 -13. This has been an annual event for years.

And look at what the store’s serving up these days... It’s Rob and Tia Trueb’s grandson, Hunter, along with his parents Scott and Tina!

Seen around town in early March ...

Spillover from the now-settled dockworkers strike in Seattle came to Port Madison by way of three container ships (two pictured here). The first two arrived February 14th and the third was here by the 17th. All were gone by February 24th when Indianola’s residents were finally free from the constant hum of the ships’

generators. • • • The day before the container ships arrived, our calm waters were broken by a whale (not an orca) passing very close to the end of the dock. It headed out of Port Madison quickly and was witnessed by Billy and Sarah Runnels and John Lane as well as workers on the geoduck boats.

Phase II for dock maintenance and repair is moving along. The commissioners passed unanimously a motion to move forward. Permits are being worked on, financing is coming together and the job, barring anything unforeseen, should take place this September. If you are inter-ested in the process please come to the next meeting, March 17, 7:00 PM at the Clubhouse Library. A fun side-note is that the Indianola Social Club will take place in the Clubhouse the same night. You can come to the Social get together and a Port meeting.

The new boat/kayak rack is completed. Thank you so much to the Boy Scouts for building us a place to store both boats and kayaks. For anyone who still has a kayak or canoe under the dock, will you please move it to the new rack. The area under the dock

will need to be kept clear of all watercraft, etc., to allow for dock maintenance.

We hope to see you soon at a meeting,

Your commissioners

Minutes of the IBIC Trustees Meeting, March 5, 2015Trustees Present: Sandra Bauer, Lisa Fitch, Catherine Freeman, Robert Jones, Kathy Caldwell, Pat Hatchel, Bridget Young, Emily Reckord, Jackie WoodI. Vice President Sandra Bauer called the meeting to order at 7:40. II. The minutes of the February meeting were approved.

III. Committee Reports:• Treasurer – Lisa is opening our new bank account soon at Kitsap Bank since Union Bank has

closed the Poulsbo branch. Our accounts total $118,426. • Membership – New or renewing members: 25 Individual, 58 household, 21 sustaining, and 34

sponsoring. We deposited $5845 for February with a total of $16855 collected and 496 total members. Please note - you must be member by the end of the month of March to run for trustee in August.

• Merchandise – No report. Madison needs volunteers to help sell on Saturday mornings. There is a clearance sale going on!

• Clubhouse Rentals – Jackie reported that March is busy with the quilters for two weeks, and April is busy every weekend. We discussed cleaning fees and charges for full day and half day. The clubhouse committee of Jackie, Sandra, Lisa, and Bridget will revisit all the rental terms to clarify our available options.

• Properties – In the ongoing question of the work to be done on the maple tree at the post office, Matt Sherman suggested that dead wooding it might not solve the problem, and recommended that we have a tree arborist assess the condition of the tree. MSP to approve hiring a consulting arborist for up to $250. This assessment will determine if the tree is a hazard. A bid for striping at the PO is on the way- look for crisp painted lines soon. Those funds have already been approved.

• Security -- Trustees shared a few letters of concern they had received about hiring armed personnel for security this summer. After considerable discussion, the trustees set a date for an informational community discussion about security plans for the coming summer. All are encouraged and invited to come to the clubhouse on April 12 at 4:00 pm to discuss our needs and get information on past and present concerns.

IV. New Businessa. Policies and Procedures - Committees policy- MSP to adopt the policy on how our club committees will operate. A copy of this policy will be placed in the library and posted on our website.b. Grounds keeper job description and discussion - Emily led a discussion on how our grounds work is done and what our costs are. The Property Committee has not been seeing the invoices so have not been able to oversee the work properly, and we discussed how that could happen.c. Action item log – Sandra recommended a useful log for tracking all our action items that will also help us see what monies we have committed and when. d. By law update - Dennis submitted a proposed rewording of the duties of secretary and treasurer since our bylaws have them confused. This proposal will be in the April Breeze, to be voted on at the annual meeting in August. Stay tuned.
