Since 1996, the New Albany Chamber of Commerce has been dedicated to being a driving force to ensure our local economy is strong and our community continues to prosper and grow. The chamber fosters economic growth and business success by advocating pro-business public policies, providing opportunities for community engagement and delivering innovative programs and member services. The New Albany Chamber is a private nonprofit 501(c)6 corporation.

The Chamber partners with government, community and business leaders to promote and sustain a healthy business environment and a vibrant community for the New Albany workforce and its residents. Membership CommitteeThe purpose of the Membership Committee is to engage and expand membership. Member engagement and member retention are top priority. By seeking feedback from current members on ways to improve chamber member services, this committee continues to increase the value of membership benefits and investment.

Ambassador CommitteeThe Ambassador Committee is comprised of outgoing chamber volunteers that reach out to welcome and engage new members. Each new Chamber member is “adopted” by a Chamber ambassador and welcomed with a call and invitation to the next New Member Orientation and upcoming event. These chamber ambassadors assist with New Member Orientations; greeting and registration at chamber events; and ribbon cuttings and grand openings.

New Albany Young Professionals (NAYP)This is a meaningful group of dedicated, talented young professionals from a wide cross-section of careers and industries. The NAYP mission is to build relationships, develop professionally, become civically and philanthropically active, and contribute to the economic development and high quality living of the community.

Human Resource CouncilThe HR Council provides a venue to exchange ideas, discuss employment related topics and receive professional development and training. The HR Council offers events and seminars to broaden and expand general HR knowledge of HR and legal issues.

Legislative Affairs & Advocacy CommitteeThe New Albany Chamber of Commerce strives to engage the area’s public and private sectors in a common goal of creating prosperity for our businesses and residents. We regularly work with elected and non-elected officials on issues and programs that move our city and region forward. This committee researches and keeps abreast of major issues impacting business and reports back to the board, Chamber members and the broader community. This committee plays a key role in planning the Annual Legislative Breakfast.

Nomination & Awards CommitteeThe Nomination Committee reviews potential board of trustee member nominations throughout the year and recommends a slate to the current board of trustees to be voted upon at the annual meeting in December. This committee also reviews nominations for the annual Delta Awards and recommends award winners to the board of trustees. Delta Awards are presented to the winners at the annual meeting in December. Lastly, this committee reviews and recommends nominations of chamber members for external awards and recognition.

Programming & Events CommitteeThis group researches, reviews and recommends programing options for the C-Suite Speaker Series; training and development opportunities; and special events such as the Business Expo & Job Fair, Taste of New Albany, Legislative Breakfast and Community Update Breakfast.

Taste of New Albany CommitteeThis committee plans and executes the Chamber’s largest annual event. Taste of New Albany is an annual event featuring food, fun, friends and entertainment that takes place in the heart of New Albany, Market Square. Taste of New Albany showcases the local area’s finest restaurants, caterers, and specialty food vendors.

Finance CommitteeThe Finance Committee is responsible for monitoring the finance, accounting and budgeting functions of the New Albany Chamber of Commerce. The committee reports to the Board of Directors on the financial status of the Chamber and recommends policies or changes to policy to the board, related to the finance or accounting functions of the Chamber.

Economic Development & Tourism CommitteeThis committee’s mission is to promote New Albany’s robust local economy; attract and assist out-of-town visitors; and enhance the quality of life for all people who live, work or visit New Albany. With a focus on existing business retention, this committee determines ways the chamber can add value and grow existing and new tourism-related events and projects in New Albany.

Communications CommitteeThe Communications Committee is responsible for planning and managing the chamber website, newsletter, public relations, marketing materials and various other aspects pertaining to the Chamber’s branding identity and market.

C-Suite Speaker SeriesThis luncheon series brings CEOs, CFOs, COOs and other C-suite level executives from leading companies in Central Ohio to speak and en-gage with members of the New Albany busi-ness community. Past speakers include Cheryl Krueger, Founder & Former CEO of Cheryl & Co.; Diane Ellis, CEO, The Limited; Claus von Zy-chlin, CEO, Mount Carmel Health Systems; and Cameron Mitchell, President & Founder, Cam-eron Mitchell Restaurants. 2016 speakers will include Lisa Ingram, President & CEO, White Castle and David Kornberg, President, Express.

Human Resource CouncilThe New Albany Chamber of Commerce Human Resource Council provides a venue to exchange ideas, discuss employment-related topics and receive professional development and training. The HR Council events and seminars are offered to broaden and expand human resource knowledge and to keep abreast of changing legal requirements.

Past topics include Americans with Disabilities Act, COTA Transportation, Social Media, Hiring Veterans, Healthcare Reform, Today’s Multigener-ational Workforce, Violence in the Workplace and Creating An Internship Program.

Mentorship ProgramTo nurture the development of the next gener-ation of leaders in New Albany, the New Albany Chamber of Commerce offers a Mentorship Program. To successfully complete the program, Mentees are expected to attend all professional development sessions and fully participate in the one-on-one mentoring relationship. The program requires a 15-20 hour commitment including professional development sessions, community volunteering and individual mentoring time.

New Albany Leadership AcademyThe New Albany Chamber of Commerce offers professional development programs, seminars

and workshops to help cham-ber members’ professional growth and development at special discounted rates. Some sessions are geared to young professionals and some toward the executive level or business owner professional. Legislative BreakfastThe annual Legislative Breakfast is well on its way to becoming Central Ohio’s premier legislative and political forum. Every year this breakfast unites compelling government officials and state legislators in discussion and debate on timely issues affecting the New Albany business com-munity and local economy.

Taste of New AlbanyTaste of New Albany is an annual event featuring food, fun, friends and entertainment. Located in Market Square; this event showcases the area’s finest restaurants, caterers and specialty food vendors. Taste of New Albany brings thousands of local residents and out-of-town visitors to New Albany. In addition to sampling signature menu items, guests enjoy beer, wine and specialty cocktails while listening to live music. New Albany Community Update BreakfastThis annual event offers a sneak peek into current and future development in the New Albany area. Presentations by local leaders offers chamber members and the community an opportunity to learn about the varied de-velopment projects over the past year as well as what’s in store for the upcoming year.

Annual Meeting and Delta Awards PresentationThis special event recognizes organizations and individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in our community. These awards symbolize the Chamber’s col-lective work in economic resilience, leader-ship creation and community strength.

Job FairsLooking for a fresh start, better job or a new career direction? Job seekers will find a wealth of exciting opportunities at the free job fairs sponsored by the New Albany Chamber of Commerce in 2016. A variety of employers from both the professional and manufacturing sectors are eager to hire for immediate openings in a wide range of fields and positions.

Business After Hours EventsBusiness After Hours is a networking event designed to promote member businesses and build connections with other area busi-ness leaders. The sponsoring business hosts the event by opening its doors for Chamber members and offering a behind-the-scenes

look at its operation. There is no cost to spon-sor a Business After Hours as it is the host’s re-sponsibility to offer appetizers, refreshments and a door prize(s). Sponsoring a Business After Hours is an excellent way to showcase member facilities and services to Chamber

members and prospective members and sends a clear message that mem-bers are invested in the community.

Grand OpeningsRibbon-cutting, groundbreaking and grand-opening events are a great way to open a new business or a new location. These types of events offer members the opportunity to publicly thank their customers, financial back-ers, friends and family, and talk about their products and services. In addi-tion, ceremonial events such as these allow them to:

Our CommunityCity of New Albany

The City of New Albany, with a population of 8,800, covers just over 17 square miles in the northeastern quadrant of Franklin County in Central Ohio. Located within Plain Township, the City of New Albany uses the mayor-coun-cil-manager form of government. As a mas-ter-planned community, the city takes pride in its emphasis on creating livable spaces with ample recreational opportunities.

City Council is the legislative branch of gov-ernment made up of seven members, one of whom is the Mayor. Sloan Spalding was elected Mayor in 2015.

The City of New Albany combines the strong political leadership of elected officials with the reliable managerial experience of an appointed manager. Joseph Stefanov was appointed City Manager by City Council in 2000. The City Man-ager acts as the CEO for the city on a day-to-day basis, ensuring effective delivery of services to New Albany residents and businesses. He also oversees community engagement efforts and special events.

Director of Community Development Jennifer Chrysler has led the economic development team since 2005. The largest master-planned

corporate business park in the state, the New Albany International Business Park has left noth-ing to chance. Designed to inspire creativity, discovery and commerce, its one-of-a-kind ap-peal has attracted a diverse range of businesses, from international headquarters to technology startups to the 3,000-acre park.

Nancy Ferguson

Nancy Ferguson was the Mayor of New Albany from 2003-2015.

During her time as Mayor, Nancy spearheaded the city’s efforts to hire its first Economic De-velopment Director, helped form New Albany’s first Economic Development Commission and helped develop its first Economic Development Strategic Plan. She was involved in the creation of a number of new public facilities in New Albany including the Jeanne B. McCoy Commu-nity Center for the Arts. She helped lead New Albany’s efforts to create the Rocky Fork Head-waters Metro Park, to acquire William Resch Park and to restore the Phelps House. Mayor Fergu-son also helped form the Smart Growth Coali-tion to help manage future residential growth in New Albany.

New Albany Police Department

New Albany is one of Ohio’s safest communities and a reason for this low crime rate is the strong interaction between officers, residents and businesses. The NAPD performs vacation house checks, teaches self-defense classes, coordi-nates Block Watch programs, conducts bicycle safety programs for children, offers finger-printing services, administers the Urban Deer Management Program, facilitates crime aware-ness for businesses and performs child car seat safety checks. New Albany Police Department are committed to keeping pace with community growth to ensure the safety and security of those who live, travel and/or work in New Albany.

Led by Police Chief Greg Jones, the police department has 19 uniformed staff members,

5 police dispatchers and 2 administrative sup-port staff. Education is a community core value and City Council has consistently underwrit-ten all costs associated with the school resource officer position stationed on the New Albany-Plain Local Schools campus throughout the school year. The city also under-

writes the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Program for fifth and seventh grade students and administers Safety Town in a joint effort with the Plain Township Fire Department.

New Albany police utilize multiple communica-tions channels to stay in touch, including social media, the city e-newsletter; a CODE RED call-out network, and a MYpd smartphone app.

Plain Township

Plain Township is home to nearly 11,000 res-idents including the City of New Albany. The Township is governed by three elected Trust-ees who oversee all township functions and services. Ben Collins has been the Township Administrator since 2009 and oversees the day to day business of the township government.

Areas served by the Plain Township Fire Depart-ment are Plain Township within Franklin County and the City of New Albany within Franklin

County. The City of New Albany in Licking Coun-ty is served by Monroe Township Fire Depart-ment and West Licking Fire District.

In addition to fire and EMS services, the Fire Department is respon-sible for fire safety and prevention efforts, including fire code enforcement, commu-nity outreach and education programs. John Hoovler has been the Fire Chief since 1994.

The Plain Township Aquatic Center is a com-munity pool open to the public. The Aquatic Center also hosts events and community groups including the Plain Township Gators youth swimming and diving team. Plain Township maintains several cemeteries, including Maplewood Cemetery – an active and historic cemetery. The town-ship also provides the community’s outdoor warning sirens and rural street lights. The Township Zoning Department oversees zoning enforcement in the unincorpo-rated township. www.plaintownship.org.

Our CommunityLocal Businesses

As businesses continue to evolve and expand, New Albany’s diverse economy cements itself as a model of successful Midwest development. In 2015, New Albany welcomed Bocchi Laboratories, a California-based manufacturer that built a 130,000-square-foot facility; Columbia Pipeline Group, a spin-off of NiSource; and the L Brands/Bath & Body Works Distribution Center. Construction should be complete in 2017 for AEP, Bath & Body Works HQ and Amazon.

L Brands, parent company of Bath & Body Works, is building an 860,000-square-foot facility, including a distribution center that opened in 2015 and an office section scheduled to open in 2016. The L Brands complex will employ approx-imately 600 employees when fully operational.

American Electric Power, headquartered in Columbus, is building a 195,000-square-foot transmission headquar-ters just west of Beech Road next to its transmission op-erations center. AEP expects to have a total of 800 em-ployees when the $39 million facility is completed in 2016.

The Amazon data center facility will employ approximately 120 people with a projected annual payroll of $2 million. Amazon’s data center in New Albany will include a 150,000-square-foot building on 68 acres north of State Route 161 and east of Beech Road.

New Albany is also welcoming two new senior living facilities to the area: Methodist ElderCare Services’ Wesley Woods and First & Main of New Albany. Wesley Woods will feature nearly 38 acres


comprised of a nature preserve, villa-style cottages with attached garages and retirement living apartments. First & Main will center on assisted living and Alz-heimer’s and memory care. Amenities include a wellness and fitness center, a movie theater, restaurants and more.

Fostering Growth & Expansion

New Albany’s options for new or expanding businesses have helped create a fertile environment for a variety of start-ups and growth of established businesses. The city offers incentive packages including income tax and technology credits, green building credits and revenue bond financing or direct loan financing to new or existing businesses that want to call New Albany home.

Half of the 14 companies in the International Beauty Campus have expanded or are building new facilities. These growing companies are bringing more than 1,700 jobs, including about 600 new positions and 1,100 transferred from other locations. All but about 100 of those jobs have been created since 2011. More than 13,000 people work in the 4,000-acre New Albany International Business Park in Licking and Franklin counties. Expansions include:

Data Centers

The Information and Technology Innovation Campus has 627 acres zoned for commercial use. The campus can accommodate up to 1.2 million square feet of development. In addition to the business park’s fiber optic network and dual feed electric, the site also features a level of seclusion that is essential for mission critical enterprises. Industry leaders that have chosen to build data centers in New Albany include Nationwide Insur-ance, Motorist Mutual Insurance, The TJX Compa-nies, AEP, PCM, Inc. and Amazon.

The AEP transmission operation center in New Albany, coupled with the electrical and network-

Safety Town

This safety awareness program is held each summer for children entering kindergarten or first grade in the upcoming fall school year. Each day, the program explores a different safety topic, including stranger awareness, water safety, fire safety, pedestrian and bicycle safety, poison prevention, animal safety, and school bus safety. All Safety Town instructors are state-certified elementary school teachers.

Safety Town was launched in 2004 with the support of Key Bank and the New Albany Wom-en’s Network through the New Albany Com-munity Foundation. Since its inception, New Albany Safety Town has trained 4,000 children in kindergarten and first grade during its two-week sessions, which include learning bicycle safety from New Albany police officers, fire and home safety from Plain Township firefighters, and water and animal safety from volunteers. The New Albany Community Foundation

Since 2002, the New Albany Community Foun-dation has presented renowned lecturers to the community and to area students. From Pulitzer Prize-winning authors and historians to a former Secretary of State, a former Prime Minister and two United States Presidents, the Foundation remains committed to supporting lifelong learning opportunities in New Albany for adults and students alike. Two former U.S. secretaries of defense, Robert Gates and Leon Panetta, head-lined the annual Remarkable Evening event this past December, held at the residence of Leslie H. and Abigail Wexner.

Held at the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts, the 2016 Jefferson Series speakers are Michael Sandel, Harvard political philosopher and author of the book Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do? on Jan. 28; Jon Meacham, journalist and author of Thomas Jef-ferson: The Art of Power on May 11; and David McCullough, author of numerous historical books including his most recent, The Wright

Brothers on June 8. Craig Mohre has been at the helm of the New Albany Community Foundation since 2002.

Community Classes

The Philip Heit Center for Healthy New Albany programming includes a series of classes for resi-dents of all ages in areas including fitness, disease prevention, cooking demonstrations and more.

Library Resources

The Charlotte P. Kessler New Albany branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library is yet anoth-er great story of collaboration in New Albany. In


2002, the New Albany Community Foundation collaborated with the Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) to endow over $1 million for book collections and technology enhancements for the New Albany Branch Library. CML is consis-tently rated as one of the top libraries in Amer-ica. The success of the Foundation’s Library Fund cleared the way for construction of a new, regional public library.

Since its dedication, the library has served the community in a myriad of ways, such as weekly Baby Lap Time; teen programs throughout the year; reading clubs for children, teens and adults each summer; Job Help Centers, where job hunters receive assistance with their search and preparation; Toddler Storytime, books, music and

rhymes to set toddlers on the road to reading; and Preschool Storytime, books, songs, stories and surprises intended to help preschoolers learn to love reading.

Since 2002, New Albany resident Pat Losinski has served as CEO of the Columbus Metropoli-

tan Library.

In December 2007 the building which houses the library was named in honor of Charlotte P. Kessler in recognition of a significant gift to the library and for her outstanding, long-time service to the Columbus Metropolitan Library.

Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts

The McCoy Center’s spacious facility annually features performances from the New Albany Symphony Orchestra, the New Albany Arts Council and the New Albany Ballet Company. The auditorium also hosts the yearly New Albany

Community Foundation’s Jefferson Series lectures. National musical acts in a variety of genres are also held at the McCoy Center.

Founded in 2007, the New Albany Symphony Orchestra has a rich tradition of bringing the vibrant sounds of skilled musicians performing in tandem to New Albany residents. Comprised of both adult and student musicians, the organization provides younger generations an opportunity to learn alongside more experienced peers.

The New Albany Arts Council

The New Albany Arts Council is the umbrella organization for five groups that support local theater and music in the city. Broadway Beginners offers a theater introduction for children, while the middle school students in the Junior Musical program are known as the Rose Run Players. Adult musicians and high school band students take part in the New Albany Winds. Vocal groups include the Center Stage Singers and the New Albany Chorus.

The New Albany Ballet Company

Offering dance education since 1999, the New Albany Ballet Company trains students in ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance. Graduating students have gone on to attend prestigious dance schools across the country.

Broadway Bound Dance Centre

With a team of highly qualified instructors, Broadway Bound Dance Centre offers ballet, combo classes, hip hop, lyrical, tap, tumbling, jazz for kids. Even toddlers can join in the fun with a special pre-dance class.

The Ealy House Museum

Restored by the New Albany Plain Township Historical Society, this building from the mid-19th century is named for its original owners, a German family that moved to the U.S. in the 18th century. Visitors can now step back in time to examine period pieces including doctors’ office items, toys, farm tools and a foot-pumped organ. Tours are available by appointment.

The Jefferson Series

Established by the New Albany Community Foundation and named for Thomas Jefferson, the Jefferson Series has been held annually since 2013. Forums are held throughout the year at the Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Arts with nationally known speakers. Each year boasts a unique blend of topics.

The remaining speakers for the 2015-16 schedule include Pulitzer Prize-winning authors John Meacham and David McCullough.

Hayley Gallery

Hayley Deeter opened her gallery in 2007 after retiring from a long marketing career to focus on her love of art. Hayley Gallery now features over 60 Ohio artisans and is also a resource for businesses looking to enhance their interiors with unique art. Patrons of the gallery can enjoy refreshments at the adjoining Ella Bistro, which Deeter opened and co-owns.
