Hello members,
It has been a while since you have heard from your Board of Directors and we
apologize for the interruption. As the pandemic continues, we are social dis-
tancing and moving forward very carefully.
Over the last three months and continuing into the future we will use the
ZOOM website for our monthly Board meetings. Thank goodness for ZOOM!
As you may recall, the first of the year was our annual membership drive. You
were given options to renew your membership and get a ticket for enrollment
in a drawing for prizes, lifetime members were automatically enrolled. Plus,
you were given the option to buy additional tickets. The drawing was to take
place at our Oleander Garden Festival which was canceled because of the
coronavirus. The drawings have now taken place and the winners have all
been notified. Maybe next year for the rest of us.
As I mentioned, the Oleander Garden Festival and Oleander Sale did not hap-
pen this year but preparations for the event were underway. We do have a
limited number of oleanders for sale at discount prices. If you are interested
in purchasing some of these oleanders in one-gallon containers, contact me
or any of our Board members.
Thanks to our Weed Warriors work in the Betty Head Oleander Garden Park
has continued during these pandemic times using social distancing. The
Weed Warriors can always use extra help. They are in the park on Fridays
10:00 am/noon. Join them in this beautiful setting if you have time, bring
your gloves and plenty of water, they will provide the weeds.
Thanks to Moody Mansion the Betty Head Oleander Garden Park is open daily
from10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Now that we are trying to resume some sort of normally, we will try to keep
you inform of our progress and activities moving forward. In the meantime,
we wish you good health.

The International Oleander Society was established in 1967 to CELEBRATE GALVESTON
AS THE OLEANDER CITY. During our fifty-three years our accomplishments have been
many. We thought this would be a great time to reflect upon our past.

APPLE BLOSSOM - This one has very attractive "Apple
Blossom" pink flowers in huge clusters on a large,
rounded, spreading shrub. It is hardy and blooms well,
even after being cut back heavily, it makes a fine tub
plant, specimen plant, or hedge plant.
CALYPSO - An excellent hardy iridescent cherry red ole-
ander that is very salt and wind tolerant. It is a strong
grower and has outstanding plant habits. It also
makes an excellent hedge plant and also free bloom-
ing.
PETITE PINK - An excellent dwarf container plant that
flowers prolificity with masses of soft shelty-pink
blooms. lt is a compact grower much used in landscap-
ing and as a tub plant. It can be kept in the 4 to 6 foot
range with pruning. The throat is tight pink with dark
stripes. It is not as hardy as some others are.
MRS. ISADORE DYER - A hardy and very fragrant fluffy
double large pink flower that blooms all summer. In the
spring, it has a tight pink color with a white stripe on
each petal. As the weather warms up the flowers turn a
much darker pink. This is one of the very best!
Here are detail descriptions of some of the oleanders that are blooming in the Garden Park. Some of the oleanders are from cuttings we received and propagated from our international members.
