Revised Neighborhood Alert and Events Email List

The City has hosted three community meetings for the Corridor Plan since last Fall. Neighbors and interested parties prioritized elements of the streetscape design and concluded that a single lane in each direction with a planted median, bike lanes and parking was the prefered plan. City planners helped the groups to clarify their needs and desires for a presentation to City Council. Finalization of the Plan may come as early as Fall. s

The BGNA Board is in the process of revising and updating the Neighborhood Alert and Events Email List. The List is used to communicate to neighbors about crime and suspicious activities in our neighborhood, as well as, community events and meetings that effect us. The List is not shared. To be on the List, please email the Board Secretary, Erin Almeraz, at:

Stay up-to-date on our Facebook page: Maple Avenue Mural Project. Most important, though, is your time. We will be holding Community Paint Days, and I invite all to participate in bringing more imagination into our neighborhood. The success of this project depends on our community and its willingness to change our Maple Avenue entrance in a positive way. Sign up to volunteer by emailing [email protected]. With your help we can put our neighborhood on the cultural map with the longest mural in Northern California. s

Not everything is doom and gloom in the real estate market. Home prices are going up, despite the short sales and foreclosures. Investors and developers are still weary about the market and it will be some time before newly constructed neighborhoods pop up in Santa Rosa. So where does that leave us in the Burbank Gardens? Sitting pretty, in my opinion. In this rebounding market, historical homes that have maintained their vintage feel are going to be snapped up much faster than a 1970’s tract home in west Santa Rosa.

My advice to current homeowners, do your best to maintain the historic feel of your homes. Update, but always with an eye towards the unique charm that brought you to this great neighborhood. Walking my dog today, it was so nice to see the yards in bloom and looking good. Maintaining your yard creates curb appeal that makes your home and the others in our neighborhood increase in value. Be a good neighbor and tend to your yard; your neighbors will appreciate it. This is a desirable neighborhood. People are seeing it, and our home values will reflect it. s

Triangle Park

There is no water available on the property and the City says it would charge us to bring water to it. The City has access to at least three sculptures that would be fitting, but it would cost over $5,000 to move any one of them there. The BGNA wanted to improve the land through the City’s Adopt-A-Green-Space, which has been beneficial for many neighborhoods, but just this month the City has made that more difficult for us too. In any case, we decided to have a BBQ coinciding with the Annual Plant Sale on June 5th. We will not be discouraged! To join the Triangle Park Committee, email:[email protected]. s
