    Learning Together

Your child will experience the wonderment of learning,

the spark of creativity, the power of play, the warmth of

friendships, and the gift of empathy.

    The Story of the Snowball:

The snowflakes were perfect—big, fat, and fluffy; it was just the rightkind of snow for building, the kind that makes snowmen and snowballsso easily. Some of the classes were already on the playground when

the snow started. Seizing upon the moment, the teachers began mod-eling the seemingly simple act of making a snowball. Not lecturing, justdemonstrating. As the children began to mimic the activity, the teachersstepped away. And then, magic happened.

Students from three different classes began to work together,problem-solving and experimenting, while master teachers helped themto understand and interpret their findings. They learned about mass,

incline planes, physics, and chemistry. They learned about teamwork. And they had fun! And it was all becauseof teachers who saw the promise of a simple snowstorm.

    Intentional Teaching

    NCRC’s teachers—early childhood specialists–support

a child’s development in ways that are fun and engaging, giving them social-emotional tools, the insight and

confidence they need to succeed every day and

    throughout life.

I often wanted to be the proverbial fly on the wall in theclassroom to see how you cast your transformative spells.

What an amazing year. From the little girl who couldn’t start the day

without crying hysterically… to the big girl who would come home prattling about her day—peppering her monologues with lessons.‘Mommy–did you know that THIS is a maple leaf?’ ‘Daddy, did youknow spiders make their own homes—they are called webs?’ ‘Did youknow we each have a bubble around ourselves?’… And sometimes, truth be told, we didn’t know, and we learned something new aboutnature, about architecture, about how to be kind.

What also came through so clearly is just how deliberate and passionateeach of you are in your life’s work influencing these kids, teaching them, coaching them… The consensus is that what made you all so great ishow much you all really see our kids for who they are.” (NCRC Parent)

    Every Child Belongs

    Social-emotional skills, mindfulness,

    kindness, character, intention,

empathy, and joy are at the heart of

NCRC—they are the essence of what

children learn and carry with them as

    they grow and move on.

It is important that each of you knowthat were it not for your actions, your

discipline, your patience, your love, yourkindness, and your modeling behavior, [ourdaughter] would be a different person. Youguys gave her the foundation upon which togrow and prosper developmentally. You gave

my little girl big dreams; and while she maynot be exactly as aware of her struggles asI am, she was surrounded by people whowere invested in her development, peoplewho loved and cared for her. Even she canfeel and see that. And, because of this, sheis absolutely delightful and full of positiveenergy.” (NCRC Parent)

     As a school community we

are truly a family, one that

    is connected because we

    both care for and about

    each other.

    Fellow Travelers:

The father-child breakfast is really a wonderful event that

shows you the simple and extraordinary power of convening.

In Persian, we have a wonderful word, hamsafar… It means one

who walks the same steps that you are walking, facing the same

journey that you face, and experiencing similar joys and triumphs

and heartbreaks. I feel like I am in a room with my hamsafars, fathers

that are all doing our best, making mistakes, working hard, marching

onward with great joy but also tremendous challenges— those deep

emotional highs and lows that only parents can understand…

We share our stories with humor and affection, and I feel a deep

connection to my fellow fathers in the room, and leave that event

with renewed spirit. It is a good reminder that I’m not alone on this

     journey.” (NCRC Parent)

We are so grateful to this school. Many of our family’sfriendships have been formed here. Back then, I would’ve

described NCRC as ‘Wow.’ Now I describe it as ‘family.’”(Parent of Alum)

There is something about this particular community thatI want to come back to again and again.”  (Alum, ’08)

Time at NCRC zips by. For students and teachers who are fully engaged in the learning process, there is never enough time

for all the fun. For parents watching their preschoolers grow, it never lasts long enough. However short the time may seem, the

    NCRC experience lasts a lifetime.

NCRC students attend the following schools, among others, after leaving NCRC:
