What is NCBTS?

Is a set of competencies(behaviors, attitudes and skills) that each teacher must possess to function effectively and

satisfactorily.

WHAT DOES COMPETENCY BASED- MEAN?

Means that the standards or criteria for characterizing good teaching are defined in terms of the teacher’s credential, LET scores, grades in graduate school,

degrees, personality traits, and soon, we look at what the teacher can do competently.

Why Do We Need the NCBTS?

– Provides a single framework or reference that define effective teaching in all aspects of a teacher’s professional life & in all phases of teacher development.

-Minimize confusion about what effective teaching is.

- Provides a better guide for all teacher development programs & projects from the school-level up to the national level.

Who Should Use the NCBTS?

Most important, individual teachers in all the public elementary and high schools all over the country

shall use the NCBTS for their professional development activities.

How Should Teachers Use the NCBTS?

-As a guide to reflect on their current teaching practices;

-As a framework for creating new teaching practices .

-As a guidepost for planning for professional development goals.

-As a common language for discussing teaching practices with other teachers .

-As the guide for thinking critically about whether the teacher’s current practices are helping students attain the learning goals in the curriculum.

How Does the NCBTS Define Good Teaching? NCBTS has :

-7 Domains- that represents the desired feature of the teaching and learning process.

-21Strands - specific dimensions of positive teacher practices under the broad conceptual domain.

80 Performance Indicators - are concrete, observable, and measurable teacher behaviors, actions, habits, actions, routines, and practices known to create, facilitate, and support enhanced student learning.

Focuses on importance of providing for a social, psychological, and physical environmental within which all students, regardless of their individual differences in learning, activities and work towards attaining high students of learning.

Refers to alignment of assessment and planning activities. In particular the domain focuses on

1. Use of assessment data to plan and revised teaching plans.

2. The integration of assessment procedures in the plan and implementation of teaching-learning activities.

3. Reporting on learner’s actual achievement and behavior.

The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers comprising of a Preamble and 13 Articles spells

out how the teacher should relate to the states, the community; the teaching profession itself. The teaching community, higher authorities in the

Philippines, school officials, fellow teachers and other personnel, the learners and the parents. It

also states how the teachers should conduct himself/herself as a person at all places, at all times including his/her business and financial

matters.
