The Random Generator Tool

IntroductionThis document provides an overview of the information youneed to create and customize the random generator tool inSMART Notebook collaborative learning software.The random generator tool is found in the Lesson ActivityToolkit in the SMART Notebook Gallery, and is an interactivetool you can use to randomly generate objects based ona pool of pre-selected variables. Before you begin, ensureSMART Notebook software is installed on your computerand you have downloaded the Lesson Activity Toolkit 2.0.

Creating the Random Generator Tool1. Open a blank page in SMART Notebook software

2. Create a questiontemplate on yourSMART Notebookpage

3. Click the Gallery tab, and typeGenerator in thetext box

4. Click the Search button. The searchresults appear.

5. Select theInteractive andMultimedia folderto display differentgenerator tools

6. Different

generator toolsgenerate differenttypes of objects.Click and dragthe thumbnailimage of theRandom numbergenerator toolto your SMARTNotebook page.The tool is addedto the page.

Customizing the RandomGenerator Tool1. You can resize the random generator tool by clicking

and dragging the resize handle in the bottom-rightcorner of the random generator tool

2. You can customize the random generator tool byclicking the edit arrows in the bottom-right cornerof the random generator tool

3. Input the minimum andmaximum range valuesyou want the randomnumber generator toolto generate

4. Click the edit arrows tosave the range values

Tip : Try using the other random generator tools tocreate additional fun classroom activities.

Using the Random Generator Tool1. Press the white space on the random generator

tool. A random value is displayed.

2. Press the arrow on the random generator tool toinsert the value on your SMART Notebook page.Press and drag the value to a location on yourquestion template.

3. Repeat steps 12 to generate additional values

The random generator tool enables teachers to quicklygenerate different values rather than writing them outindividually. The random generator tool enables studentsto gain interest by interacting with the SMART Boardinteractive whiteboard. Another extraordinary effect,made simple.
