It’s Time for Some Spring Cleaning! I love Spring time! The days getting longer, the weather getting nic-er, the grass growing green and all the roses and wild flowers are blooming. One thing I really love about Spring-time in Hallwood are the orange trees blossoming and producing their heavenly scent. With all this newness and freshness of Spring, it also makes me want to clean up, freshen up, and declutter many things around the house. I am driven to go through my closet and pull out clothes that are worn out or I just don’t wear anymore. Shoes that have long ago served their purpose. And I find there are many opportunities in my garage and shed to clean up, organize, and simply get rid of junk. It feels good to do this and to bring a sense of order to some of the chaos, although my wife would say there’s still a lot of chaos to be dealt with. But what about doing a little Spring cleaning in our lives? Spring can be an excellent time to search out hearts and minds, look at our spiritual practices and habits, and ask the Lord what needs to go, what needs to stay, and what needs to be started again. Psalm 51:10 says, “Create in me a new heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” I want to encourage you to take some time before the busyness of Summer is upon us and do some internal Spring cleaning. As the psalmist says, ask God to create in you some new patterns and practices of drawing close to Him. Spend some time in contemplative prayer, thinking through what’s become cluttered in your life and what needs to go. Ask the Holy Spirit to purge those neg-ative thoughts or sinful practices that you’ve allowed to hang around and take up room. And then start doing some things that will revive your soul and bring new life. Get up with the early morning dawn to spend time with the Lord. Take advantage of some peaceful walks in God’s great outdoors. Plan your favorite Spring activity with family or friends. And spend time praising God for the many blessings in your life. If you do these things, Spring will last a lot longer than you think!

Authentic Selfie
I am speaking at a youth pastor
conference this month and had to
think up a phrase for the title. I be-
gan to think about the struggles of
our age and how people will publish
their good side for all to see. Some
will publish everything on social media.
But, is there an authentic self that
we can publish? One that is not just
the good or just a lot of drama?
What would it be like if you were
your authentic self for all the world
to see every day? Whether on social
media or not? Would people see a
different side of you? Would others
be shocked or dismayed? Disappoint-
ed or sad? Would you fear humiliation
or would others sympathize?
When we are authentic then the
world sees the true transformation
of a life in the hands of the living
God! Otherwise we give the world
false hope or only a digital Jesus.

Bow Down With Creation
Storm clouds multiply overhead releasing its rain as light-ning flashes and thunder roars
A double rainbow engulfs the dark sky with its brilliant colors in the distance, a Promise fulfilled
Trees lift their branches up to the Throne in celebration and releases sweet blossoms in praise
The wind carries the beautiful melody of Your song that lingers in the stillness
Your words penetrate to the depths of my soul and exposes my desperate longing once again
The deep ice around my heart melts away as compas-sion is ignited into a raging inferno
My barren wasteland of guilt and shame is transformed into a valley of endless peace
Wrestle my thorn into submission and watch its poison dissolved by Your consuming grace.
You hand me a hammer soaked with Your blood and to-gether we demolish the idols in my heart
The forces of darkness tremble at Your Name and dissi-pate like smoke before my eyes
Bow down and join creation as we raise our voices in a beautiful song of worship to our King
Tears of joy fill my eyes as You carry me through the relentless pain as we journey Home
