She is able toget in touch with aniril.alsand translate their messages into human terms.Asia's story is available on her website atwww.asiavoight.coni..I first met Asia 5 III years ago when shecame to visit my shop. I have to admitI was a skeptic. I had been volunteeringwith Timber Wolf Biologists in the early90's as a zoology major in college anddoing animal behavior studies on captive1tumpeter Swans in the late 90's. All thehours I sat and observed animal behavior over v ~ r a 1 years, not once did oneof the animals speak. to me. (Or I didn'thear tiJ.em if they did.) It did not takelong after sitting doWn with Asia the firsttime t9f!ealize she was actually connecting WiWmy animals and could seewhat they could see. She not only could. ..: "

Being a client and friendof Asia's now for almost five years, I haveseen the joy and emotion she can bringher clients through her gift in communi-. cating with their pets. Recently we sharedsome time on a dolphin expedition ofwhich Asia was a facilitator. During thistime we interacted with wild marine lifeon their terms.

Asia has done many interviews on heranimal communication skills and hasspoken about some of the interactionswith clients' pets. Up until now, no onehas discussed with her how communicating with wild animals is different. Whenasking Asia about her communicationwith the dolphins, she replied, "When Iarrive in Bimini (location of the DolphinExpeditions boat) I put out the intention and desire to communicate with thedolphins and invite them with an openheart and mind to share their wisdom. Then I sit back and wait for them to

CiMphins ofHawaii:She had very differentexperiences with the two species. She saidVte ~ p o t t e d dolphins have the personalityto a poodle border collie cross in'ciJs - very playful, very intelligent and," sensitive. The spinner dolphins inHawaii present the personality similar. t , ,to a cat, somewhat aloof with a "what-el.er: attitude. The 'spinners are easier tofihd and she found they don't mind youswimming up on them, but they are notas ;playful in the water as the w:ild spotteddqlphins. The picture of Asia with the.spinner dolphins was taken when Asiaaatually asked the dolphins to slow downso the photographer could snap thepicture - and they did..The messages Asia would receive from1;he spinner dolphins were more practicaland consisted of directions among the pod .of dolphins and not directed at her. Sheshares an experience in which she wasswimming along side 10 spinner dolphinsand keeping herself as peaceful as possible when she heard the lead dolphin say'We are now turning to the right' and theentire pod turned right; then he said 'Weare now spiraling down' and then theydove down and were gone.. The dolphins are amazing animalsand when asked which she preferred, she said with out hesitation, am mostattracted to the spotted dolphins of theBahamas. I have never felt such giving, joy and love from another species; I can'tget enough of them. The sensation of it~ o e s not dwindle. '" .u r t J e s in Costa RicaLast November Asia was drawn to visitthe Olive Ridley turtles of Costa Rica. She and her friends stayed in a smallrural town called Playa Ostional wheretens of thousands 'of turtles come to lay:their eggs once a month during the darkmoon. The event is called Ambada, which means "the arrival. nThe timiilg is important for the turtlesbecause the dark moon and the high tideallow the animals to lay their eggs at a

point just abovethe water lineof the high tide.Basically theturtle swims upto the shore andwalks a few feetfrom the edge ofthe water line athigh tide, laysher eggs , coversthem and thenwalks back tothe water toswim back tothe ocean: Theentire process takes'about an hour. Asiaand friends arrived three days after theperfect timing of the tide. The older anddisabled animals were left to follow thereproductive call of nature. The old anddisabled turtles are slow at digging andsome have back fins missing from boatpropellers that maimed them. In thesecases ,'anhour process can take up to fouror more hours and the tide has recedingforces them to walk 50 feet to the water.Add to this hundreds of vultures in themorning hours waiting for either turtleeggs that didn't get buried or turtles thatare ready to give up the fight for life.Asia heard the vultures at one pointand she descnbes their voices as that ofcartoon characters as they spoke to theabba-

As theygot closer to the water canying these150 pound sea turtles, the animal's flippers would flap and energy was restored. They helped 13 turtles to the safe, lifegiving waters of the ocean.SharksA few weeks ago when Asia was on aDolphin Expedition in the Bahamas, sheand those withherhad an encounter withsome s h a r ~ in the Gulf Stream. The firstshark was a 12-foot tiger shark. One ofthe participants was only 10 feet from theshark, and after a stare down, the sharkturned and swain on. As it swam awayfrom her, Asia was struck by its beautyand grace. Another 6-foot Canbbean reefshark swam up behind the captain whowas diving down deeper than the otherparticipants. The captain was not awareof the curious visitor behind him. Asiawas above looking down through 'hermask and said that the shark came up tothe captains back, sniffed and she .said\t looked like the shark shuddered andturned to quickly swim away. The sharkreally is not interested in humans.

I asked Asia . if she received any

messages from the sharks and she saidthe tiger shark did relay a communication. I t was filled with great sadness fortheir species. They know how importanttheir species' existence is to all life. Asiasaid this was one of the most painfulsensations she has ever felt in her life. The greed and ignorance of humansdepleting the oceans hurts them deeply- they want us to stop and begin supporting ocean life. The shark is fully aware ofthe i n t e r c o ~ e c t e d n e s s of all life. Theydo not want us to fear them and they donot want to hurt us.

When asked how Asia felt after thisexperience, she said she sees herselfsharing the message to stop the needlesskilling of the shark and to support thecause through education and financialsupport to organizations that are proactive in shark conservation. I t is time weget rid of the myths about the shark andrealize this is one of the most importantpredators on our planet.Communicationfrom a Sting Ray

I asked Asia if she had an example of amessage from one of the wild animals onher trips that stuck out in her mind. Sheshared a message from a sting ray to aparticipant we will refer to as Lisa. Stingrays, by the way, are very giving animalsand Asia mentions they want to share
