Please take responsibility for the energy you bring into this space.Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor

Think about this powerul statement and how our lives, ourenergy, impacts those around us. All lie is energy and weare transmitting it at every moment. We are all beaming

little signals, like radio requencies, and the world is responding inkind. Nobody but you is responsible or your lie. It doesnt matterwhat your mama did; it doesnt matter what your daddy didnt do.You are responsible or your lie. ... You are responsible or theenergy that you create or yoursel, and youre responsible or theenergy that you bring to others, says Oprah Winrey.

You and only you have the power to change your lie, the powerto change your energy, the power to change to a higher vibration.

Love and joy are among the highest vibrations. Te higher yourvibration, the happier, healthier you are. By increasing your vibra-tion, you are attracting more good things into your lie. Tis inturn has an impact on those around us; their vibration gets higher, which comes back to us because our vibration gets higher. Teenergy eeds of o each other.

Abraham-Hicks1 has come up with a series o emotions that willhelp transition you rom eeling bad, to eeling better about what-ever you are experiencing. Find where you are emotionally on thescale and then reach or a better-eeling thought. Like climbing aight o stairs, you just step up to the next one; you dont try to jumpall the way to the top. ake small steps toward joy, one day at a time.

One o the keys to joyous living is to practice choosing joy,and abundance. When we choose these eelings, we raise

vibration and resonate with those things and events that we desired. We have the power to choose how we eel.

One o the quickest ways to raise your vibration is to say thyou. Being grateul or all that you have, or what is around where you live, will raise your vibration. You can say it out louyour head or write it down in a gratitude journal. Albert Einsone o the most brilliant minds that ever lived thanked otherwhat they had given to him a hundred times a day! Nearly 85% o dieters ail to lose signicant amounts oweight or ail to maintain their weight loss i they attemptit alone1. o combat this, many people nd that having

a health coach drastically improves their success rate due to thesupport, education and motivation a coach can provide.

For example, a coach can help you understand the process ometabolism. Researchers were worried about this unusually highrate o ailure, and when they investigated the matter, ound that itwas not due to lack o will power on the part o dieters. More thanthat, it was about the bodys response to dieting.

Te major problem with traditional diets is that they slow downthe metabolism rate, which is the rate at which you burn calories.I someone is overweight, then chances are that their metabolismis already very slow when compared to that o others. When you

reduce calorie intake, the body will respond by slowing down itsown process o burning calories. Why does the body do this?

Te main reason is that the body assumes that there is a shortageo ood, which is the reason why you are not eating as much as youdid earlier. So, it slows down the calorie burning process in order toprevent starvation. When you stop dieting and start eating as beore, the metabolism rate has already dropped, so you are likely to gainweight much aster. Beore you started dieting, your metabolism ratewas probably higher and still you were gaining weight. So imagine howit would be now that you are back to your old eating habits and yourmetabolism is slower than beore! Can you imagine the consequences?

Te worst news is that aer each dieting attempt, the metabolism isprobably going to unction at a lower rate than beore. So, many peoplenot just gain back the weight they lost, but gain some extra pounds aswell. I someone was weighing 200 pounds beore dieting, he may nowweigh 210 pounds due to a metabolism decrease as a result o dieting.

Furthermore, dieting also changes the body composition. Terewould be an increase in at percentage and decrease in lean muscleaer a dieting attempt. So, the ratio o at to muscle in the bodywill be altered, which is not a good thing.

So, there is one major conclusion here the person who goes onrequent diets is likely to ace increased weight problems than beore.

Instead o losing weight, he may lose his good health! So, starvadiets, in which you drastically cut down calories, are not at all recmended i you want to achieve healthy and permanent weight lo

Veterinarians promote vaccination as a means to a goodearly start or babies. Tere are some vaccinations thatsave lives, but some vaccination protocols are excessive,

risky and a waste o money!A puppy or kittens immune system is not competent to respond

to a vaccine until eight weeks o age. Tereore, breeders and veter-inarians should not begin vaccinating until that time. Vaccinesshould never be given closer together than two to our weeksapart. o establish whether or not a vaccine has caused an animalto mount an adequate immune response, a blood titer test may

be perormed. Getting a shot does not protect your pet; it is thebodys immune response to the vaccine that protects the animal, and NO all animals respond! Te presence o mothers antibod-ies in a puppy or kitten can prevent a vaccine rom stimulating animmune response.

Vaccinate only with the AVMA-recommended core vaccines.Importantly, this does NO include leptospirosis. Although the

disease is a zoonotic (can be transmitted rom dogs to hum

with any other vaccines, such as rabies. Rabies vaccine is gener-ally given to pups at our months or later. Tis is repeated in oneyear, and then every three years. Do a titer test on puppies at ourmonths to see i the distemper and parvo levels are protective.

Cats receive distemper (panleukopenia), rhinotracheitis (herpesvirus) and calici virus vaccines. An intranasal vaccine seems tocause ewer reactions. Te state o Wisconsin does not requirerabies vaccine in cats. Be sure to test all new kittens, especiallythose being brought into a household with other cats, or the eline

leukemia (FeLV) and eline immunosuppressive (FIV) viruses.Like HIV, cats with these viruses can appear healthy and transmitthese disorders to other cats beore they exhibit symptoms andsuccumb to the disease. I you identiy that your new, little one hasan immunosuppressive disorder, you can provide healthy immunesupport early in lie to try to delay onset o illness.

Remember, vaccine inserts say, Vaccinate (only) healthyanimals. Dont let anyone vaccinate your pet i he is ill or hasa chronic condition. Te immune system has enough to do inmanaging that disorder. Dont ask it to properly handle a vaccineon top o it!

Ask your veterinarian how your pet might contract a disease toguide your decision, based on your pets liestyle, as whether or notto vaccinate to try to prevent a particular disease.

Proper nutrition is critical to a great start or a puppy orkitten! Learn as much as you can about species-appropriate dietsbecause they make sense and they promote excellent quality olie and longevity. Qti: My 6-year-old son wants to eat hot lunch every daybecause his riends do, but I know I could make him some health-ier options here at home. Any advice?aw: Tis is probably an issue that a lot o parents deal with.Sadly, the nutritional guidelines or public schools are terrible, which gives them a license to serve cheap, processed ood. Tatbeing said, some schools make more o an efort in the area o nutri-tion than others. Tereore, it really depends on what your son hasavailable to him at his school. Some schools actually ofer salad barsand resh ruit as staples, which is a good thing, but many donteven go this ar. My recommendation would be to pack him a coldlunch as the standard, but then look at the school lunch menu with

him and pick out a ew days that both o you approve o. Tisgives him a little control over his own ood choices, butalso lets you lay the ground rules or lunchtime eating.Ideally, the ocus should be on healthul ood options, and with careul planning, I think this can be accom-plished with a combination o both cold and hot lunches.

Qti: Is it wise to include supersetsin my workouts and, i so, what are theadvantages?aw: Supersets involve perorming two

exercises back-to-back with little or no rest inbetween. And i youre looking to change up yourworkouts a bit, theyre denitely worth a try. Tereare numerous superset variations, but the mostcommon types would be same muscle supersetting or

antagonistic supersetting. As the name implies, samemuscle supersetting incorporates two diferent exer-cises or the same muscle group. For example, one seto dumbbell chest presses could be ollowed by barbellincline press. Antagonistic supersetting involvesopposing muscle groups, so you might combine

biceps curls with triceps extensions, again with no rest in betwsets. No matter what type o supersetting you engage in, therthree obvious advantages to utilizing this method o training. Fiall, doing supersets saves time, which is clearly advantageous wpeople want to get in and get out. It also allows an individual to at a higher intensity, which can produce better results in the run. And lastly, because supersetting allows or increased worintensity without using very heavy weights, the likelihood o indecreases signicantly. Give em a try and see what you think!

Qti: A couple o my riends have recently started juiWhat are your thoughts?

aw: Juicers are quite popular these days, but heres my takthe whole juicing phenomenon. Occasionally, Ill meet people thahate ruit and vegetables. Tey pretty much avoid them altogetheinterestingly, a ew o these individuals have said that juicing seto work or them. Tey dont seem to have a problem drinking ruits and veggies. I this is the case or you or someone you knosay, go or it. However, we need to remember thatmost juicers remove virtually all o the ber asthe ruits and vegetables are processed. I youadd in the research that shows that ber mayprovide much o the health benets attributedto ruits and vegetables, we have a problem here.I would argue its much better to eat ruits and

vegetables intact the vitamins, minerals, antiox-idants and ber. Plus, most olks consume ar toolittle ber anyway, so juicing is just going toexacerbate this problem. Bottom line

save your money and stickwith whole ruits and vege-tables whenever possible.

Everything in the universe contains energy, yet energy is somethingmany of us dont understand. Every month Tina Bensman, a prac-ticing clairvoyant and energy healer, is here to answer any questionsyou have about your energy system. Topics may include energyanatomy, dream analysis, chakra balancing, manifestation, lifepatterns, etc. e ideas written here do not replace medical atten-tion. Always listen to your body, mind and intuition when receivingadvice of any kind.

    Dear Tina,

My amily and I just moved into a new house two months ago. Its

everything we have ever wanted, however I cant settle in. I ndmysel wanting to rewind the clock and stay in our old house eventhough it was way too small or our growing amily. My wie andkids love our new space, but I nd mysel getting more and moredepressed and almost earul. Could this be related to my energy?I so, what can I do to x this?

    Unsettled

    Dear Unsettled,

Change is always very dicult no matter what the circumstance. My rst question is, do you eel this way every time a big changecomes your way or just this one? Either way, yes, this is an energyissue related to grounding.

Grounding is a connection to your personal oundation and, thereore, the part o your energy system that gives you stability, security and saety as well as the ability to release. Any time thereis a big change, especially a change in your location, your ground-ing may become conused and not travel with you. You mayeel depressed and earul as you mentioned as well as irritable, conused, angry, unable to let go and incredibly stressed. You mayalso notice physical discomort in your lower back and tailbone, and a dramatic change in your libido.

Imagine a tree with very strong roots. Whether the tree is he

in its current location, or needs to be moved into a better enviment, uprooting and moving it will cause trauma to the tree. Mcare is needed to insure a successul transer and healthy uTe same care is needed or your roots.

Receiving an energy work session would be very benecigetting you back on track; however, in the meantime you cathrough a meditation by imagining your entire body as a Watch or eel as you grow roots through either your tailbonyour eet. Notice how deep the roots go down toward the centthe earth. Also notice i there are any points o resistance as travel. Is the dirt lled with rocks or clay? I so, how can you it out? Dig, add water, remove rocks one by one? What woulddo i you really had a tree to plant? Do the same or your systemsounds incredibly simple, but it works!

hat causes myopia? When a person has myopia, lightentering his or her eye is ocused incorrectly. Nearsighted peopleusually have an eyeball that is slightly longer than normal romront to back, and the light rays that make up the images a near-sighted person sees ocus in ront o the retina instead o directlyon it. Te result is that objects that are ar away appear blurry.

Are there indicators that a child is nearsighted?Kids likely wont tell their parents that they are struggling to seedistant objects clearly, so its important or parents to look or indi-cators that a child might be struggling with myopia. When a child is diagnosed as being nearsighted, the doctor willlikely prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses. LASIK surgery cancorrect vision, but many surgeons are reticent to recommend suchsurgery until a patients eye has ully developed, which does notoccur until aer childhood.

    Are there other symptoms

For example, achild might close one eye when watching television or reading. Tiscould be indicative that vision in one eye is poorer than the other.

It was an unlikely pairing; Megan Ryan Kaiser developing a passion for hot

yoga. She grew up in a sports-centered family after all. It was about things

like basketball, softball and more basketball, not practicing yoga.

Her childhood was also about giving back to the community, and that

stuck with her. Her father, UW mens basketball coach, Bo Ryan, and her

mother, Kelly, have always immersed themselves in their community and

continue to go out of their way to give back as much as they can throughorganizations such as United Way and JDRF, and fundraisers like Coaches vs.

Cancer, which just recently raised over $450,000 at their annual fundraiser.

Te idea of giving back was never lost on Megan and a series of coin-

cidental events after she left home, led her on a journey on which she

found and embraced hot yoga, and later, felt the need to share her

    passion with others.

It all started in Los Angeles, where Kaiser settled after earning her BA in

theatre performance from UW-Madison and her MFA from the Profes-

sional Actor raining Program at Purdue University. In an attempt to

better deal with the stresses involved in her new career, she went, well,

To sweat is to pray, to make an oering of your

innermost self. Sweat is holy water, prayer beads, pearls

of liquid that release your past. Sweat is an ancient and

universal form of self healing ... Gabrielle roth

    give it a try.

It wasnt love at rst try, Kaiser admits. Tough she found it a bit b

she does recall experiencing some benets. Ten, a chance encounter

a gentleman she met while producing a reality show turned her on to

yoga. He had been through a terrible loss and tragedy, and Kaiser cou

help but ask, How do you cope? His response: hot yoga. He shared

the stress relief, muscle relaxation, reduction of symptoms of illnesoverall awareness helped him tremendously.

A move then took her to the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles, where

was a hot yoga studio just a couple blocks from her apartment. Her

she began attending hot yoga sessions. She remembers leaving the s

feeling wonderful, intoxicated, amazing. Soon she was sleeping b

more focused, more condent and less stressed. She was hooked.

About two years later, another move brought her back to Madison

One day, Kaiser ran into an old friend from

college. While sharing, she told her friend

that she had been toying with the idea of opening a hot yoga studio, but

that she had no business background. Her friend then revealed that her

brother, Will Harris, was a business adviser. Te next day, Harris e-mailed

Kaiser and she shared her dream with him. Ten, the hard work ensued.

Finally, on June 16, 2011, Kaiser, the married mother of two, and her busi-

ness partner were able to fulll her dream by opening Dragony Hot Yoga

    in Fitchburg.

Her vision was for it to be a place for everyone; all tness levels, all body

types and all sizes a place of collaboration and community. We are

breaking down the barriers, stripping away any preconceived notions about

yoga and creating yoga for the people, explains Kaiser.

And, that is exactly what Dragony Hot Yoga is all about. Customers rave

about the caring instructors, the comfortable environment, the lack of

intimidation and the community feeling there. Kaiser is really lling a void.

My goal was to get people to try hot yoga. And, an internal survey recently

found that 60% of my customers hadnt tried yoga before they came here.

    I am proud of that.

And, what about the name? Tat was a very long process, admits Kaiser.

I wanted it to be meaningful, to represent change and self-realization,

to reect living in the moment. I could not believe how every dragony

symbolism deeply connects with yoga and the human spirit and what I

want the studio to represent and bring out of everyone who practices here.

    Dragony oers around 14 di

    classes ranging in intensity

peaceful Yin and Slow Flow classes, to more energetic and intense c

like Fit and Power. With all of the parents in mind, Kaiser made sure to

    a childcare studio as well.

Te classes are designed to challenge each person and meet their inde

dent physical needs and goals, all while building a strong base of inner r

tion, acceptance and peace. I cant imagine attending another studio

than Dragony; the whole experience has left me with a stronger sen

self and a determination to push my limits physically, mentally, spirituall

emotionally. I am truly grateful that I was lucky enough to nd such a un

space with an accepting and supportive sta to guide me through my

personal yoga journey, shares current customer,Natalie Koberstein.

Another supportive customer, her mother, Kelly Ryan, was introduc

yoga by Kaiser. Mom was a bit nervous when I rst made plans to

the studio, but now shes my best salesperson! Not only does she sell

practices it. Trough yoga Ryan has been able to gain strength and a

that she hasnt had in years.

Kaiser has seen so many cases rst hand in which hot yoga has lea

hy do we take vacations? Aris-totle said we rest so we canwork again, which seems to

imply that work is the point o lie. Yetothers might eel that we work to be ableto aford vacations, or other unpaid activi-ties in which lies meaning is ound. Eitherway, time of is an essential part o lie.

Lets take a closer look at Aristotles quip.I work is what its all about, why rest?Teres a biological answer. Our bodies arewired to wait till were relaxed beore ullydigesting our ood and repairing damagedtissues. Stress, which keeps these restor-ative processes on hold, is natures way oensuring that when were under threat, ourblood supply will be concentrated in ourarms and legs, where we needed it most in

the days when stress was typically the resulto physical danger.

So our need to rest makes sense biologi-cally. In act, the biology shows that ourtime of duty needs to include time whenwere ofall duties. For i we spend all ourtime of doing things that are stressulin themselves, we never reach the stateo deep letting-go that truly renews andreplenishes our bodies.

Beyond this bio-logic, however, is some-thing more. Have you ever set aside a projector training regimen, maybe eeling bad aboutprocrastinating, only to nd that when youpicked it up again you did better than beore?Te muse is known to be capricious; s/hewants us to work, but s/he doesnt want us tothink we produced the result all by ourselves. Not or nothing does the word muse comerom the same root as mystery.

Tis mystery makes the cycle o lie, workand rest a constant dance with an unseen

partner. Whether work is an end in itsel ora means to what gives our lie meaning, welearn to recognize the signs when its timeto let go or a while. Signs less obvious thanphysical atigue include loss o enthusiasmor work we usually enjoy or, paradoxically,a tightening o our grip on our work, a sensethat we cant let it go just now. Sometimesclocking out is an act o aith.

I have ound that this aith is rewardedagain and again, especiallywhen Ive takenbreaks I thought I couldnt aford. Its as isomeOne or someTing then takes the workacross a chasm I couldnt cross on my own.

I rest is a necessity as much as work, then or all its importance and dignity, work is not what its all about. Somewhere

in rest, in aith, in allowing the unknowcarry our work miraculously orward wwe sleep, we touch something elemeperhaps the spark o lie itsel.

When we remember that our wis completed by the grace o sometbeyond ourselves, we rediscover our place in creation. We are neither alonepowerless. We are co-creators, exercpower that is real, yet graceully entwwith a Power beyond our own.

Tis month, I invite you to nd a way to let go into that greater Power.

Parsley (Petroselinum) may be best known as a garnish ondinner plates. However, parsley is packed ull o nutrition, probably much more nutritive than the ood it is lending

the color to! Ches, home cooks and scientists are all discoveringparsleys under-appreciated qualities.

Tere are two common varieties: the at lea (Italian) and curlylea. Te texture is the main diference between the varieties, butthere are also slight avor diferences. Te lea o parsley is most

oen used in culinary and medicinal ormulas, but theroot and seed can also be used.

Parsley provides the vitamins A, C, the B vitaminolic acid and K. Parsley is a rich source o many

minerals. Menthatriene is a volatile oil inparsley that gives it the distinctive avor.Another oil in parsley, myristicin, is aknown cancer ghter and studies haveshown it to prevent tumor ormation.Te benecial qualities come rom these

oils and avonoids in parsley. Parsleysavonoids give this herb its diuretic, anti-

inammatory and antioxidant proper-ties. Rich in chlorophyll, parsley is ahandy breath reshener.

Parsley supports the bodys detoxi-cation systems, especially by way o the

kidneys. For an easy detox tea, put about 1/4cup o resh parsley in an inusion basket in a

cup and pour hot water over it. Steep or veminutes, add some lemon juice, and sweetenwith honey or maple syrup.

Gremolata is a relish made rom minced parsley, garliclemon zest. It is a terric relish to avor everything rom seggs to pasta and stews.

I you have an abundance o parsley rom your garden, rsome or later use. It can be chopped and put in ice cube trays water. Once rozen store the parsley cubes in reezer bags. Therbal cubes can be popped into a soup or stew in a jify!

Large amounts o parsley should not be used during pregnaduring severe kidney inammation or by nursing mothers, asherb can dry up breast milk.

A phrase that has stuck with me or decades rom the oribook, Diet or a Small Planet, Frances Moore Lappe statedpeople should be eating a portion o parsley and a sprig o minstead o the other way around, or a healthy sustainable diet

Todays lesson, children, is how not to waste money onneedless chimney repairs. Nearly everyone who owns ahouse will at some point have to ace chimney repairs. For

the purpose o this discussion, lets explore masonry repairs. Bethe chimney brick, stone or a combination o both, the actual dete-rioration action will be the same.

All masonry chimneys, above the roo, chemically break downrom the top down, rom the inside out. Chimneys dont dete-riorate rom the outside in. As you begin to see the evidence odeterioration youre witnessing a trail o rot that began years backrom the inside. Te deterioration becomes evident in stages. Asyou see the brick aces breaking of or mortar alling out or rocksbeginning to spread apart, know this: You are only seeing the endevidence. Te actual deterioration in diferent stages goes on a

number o eet below what you are actually seeing. You may discover this circumstance on your own simply by

looking up, or someone with a vested interest may have made youaware o it. You may also have discovered water or leakage evidenceand thought that the roo was leaking. Ten, aer spending largemoney on a new roo, the leak is back. Tese scenarios are playedout daily in this area. However you become aware o it, eventuallyi your home has a chimney, you are going to be calling repair olks.

Beore you call anyone, do a little research. Get on the Weband learn the terminology. Chimney terminology is a distinctlanguage within the masonry lexicon. As an example, the top othe chimney terminates with generally a concrete or stone crown.Tat termination is not called a cap. Sometimes it is called awash or a spray, but never a cap. Te top termination on a wall orcolumn is the cap stone. Te reason the top o the chimney is thecrown is because historically when the mason built the chimney itwas the one area where he could show his skills unchecked. Tatis why many grand homes that have multiple chimneys requentlylook diferent rom one another. Each mason declares his skill, andthey crown their work. A cap is something typically made o metalto keep the rain out. I you know more about chimney terminol-ogy than the person giving you a quote, then move on.

Te allacy o tuckpointing: uckpointing is the bastardizao the actual term re-pointing. We will use the term tuckpoinor this discussion because it is commonly used in this area.

Calcium is the bodys most abundantmineral. 99% o the calcium in thebody is deposited in the bones

and teeth, and the rest in our so tissues.Your complete calcium is entirely renewedapproximately every six years. o be ableto sustain the right calcium balance in thebody, a person needs a satisactory dailyintake. Most recommend 800-1500mg/day.

Calcium helps maintain a balancebetween sodium, potassium and magne-sium. It is also essential or the proper utili-zation o phosphorus and vitamins A, C andD. Calcium can help to alleviate insomnia,so it is recommended at bedtime as it is anatural sedative!

A lack o calcium can cause musclecramps, numbness, porous or ragile bones(osteomalacia or osteoporosis), brittlenails, joint pains, tooth decay, nervousness, mental depression, irritability and Parkin-sons disease. calcium, magnesium, phosphorus andvitamin D need to be tested to see whichone matches your deciency.

Another place afected by a calcium de-ciency is the coccyx bone (tailbone area), inwhich a dull ache may occur, as this is whereone o the calcium warehouses is. When youalso have a lower backache, arthritis aches, heavy periods and mild depression, this is a

sign o a calcium shortage in your body. Wehave aches and pains because something isof balance, or short on something.

uckpointing is both an act and a skilland nally a procedure. Te essence o itis that as wind borne rain and dusts slowlyerode the soer elements o the mortarsthat compose the layment between bricksor stones o walls, it needs to be replen-ished. Why? Decades o erosion can slowly

soen the heart mortars and structurallyweaken the construct. (As a general rule, tuckpointing isnt needed beore the build-ing has stood or a century or more.)

Te procedure itsel is very simple.Efectively you remove the so mortar othe surace to a prescribed depth, expos-ing the heart mortars that are sound andin good condition. Ten you re-point thesemortars with a sacricial protective mortarback to the original surace elevation andappearance. It is a simple concept, but theactual procedures are precise in methodol-ogy and materials used. So tuckpointingis a procedure used to protect structuralmortars rom surace borne erosion.

Chimneys deteriorate rom the insideout, not rom the outside in. As the

structural mortars deteriorate imbedded acids, as by-products o exhgases, the alkaline mortars only have yor decades beore the continuous exposure simply turns structural mointo dust. Ten, the nal last best mobegins to all out, hence the deterioraevidence. uckpointing is to protect stmortar, not disguise structural rot.

Never pay anyone a dime to tuckpochimney above a roo. A chimney belowroo can actually age out more like the hand so tuckpointing may be viable, but nabove the roo. uckpointing, waterping and brick re-acing with colored moare not lasting repairs at all above the Consider the chimney above the roodisposable. Every y to seventy years,it down to roo level and put it back upyou are done with it or lie. Any repair so that is throwing your money away. Lshort, so do it right the rst time.

available to us. With all o the diferent options to choose rom,two things seem generally consistent: portions are large andmeals are loaded with starches and at, which are high in calo-ries. However, since there are so many people ollowing diets orhealthy liestyles, restaurants are becoming more accommodatingto your health needs than ever beore.

    TPS OM TON:

2Whenorderingsalad, order yourdressing on the sideto limit your at and

calorie intake. However, becareul not to pour all o the dress-ing provided over your salad, as it isoen more than what you would normally geton a salad with the dressing already on it.

Depending on how hungry you are, asalad may be enough to satisy

your appetite, but make sureit includes some lean meat

    or sh or protein!

1Avoid ried and battered oods. Instead, ask orspecial requests most restaurants are accom-modating and will prepare your meal as you like.Ask or grilled, broiled, roasted or steamed meatsand vegetables. Requesting a side o steamed vege-tables, salad, brown or wild rice instead o French

ries or other ried sides can help cut calories and atwhile increasing your intake o healthy nutrients!

6 Since the body uses alcohol or energy rst, ollowed by carbohydrates, protein and at; whenyou drink and eat, the excess calories are oen storedas at. o keep the pounds rom piling on, skip higher-at entrees and concentrate on lower-at items such

as sh, pork, poultry or lean cuts o red meat whenhaving wine with dinner.

7 End your meal with reresh-ing green or herbal tea. Gingertea can help with digestion andgreen tea is good or your overallhealth. Many restaurants nowofer a variety o exotic teas, so

treat yoursel! Some teas are soruity that theyre a perect replace-

    ment or dessert.

5 Limit yoursel to one alcoholic drink. Alcohol, whether in the orm o acocktail, wine or beer, can weaken you rom exercising thought-ul moderation with your ood. Plus, it dehydrates you and ofersno nutritional benet. When you go out, order water instead!

4Avoid all the extras, as these calories addup quickly: bread and butter, sweeteneddrinks, appetizers, side items and desserts.

Instead ocus on a healthy balance o leanproteins, low-at carbohydrates and vegetables.

3When considering soup, go or the healthier, low-at,broth-based options that are loaded with vegetables suchas kidney, black, pinto or garbanzo beans, and whole grainssuch as barley. Avoid cream-based soups and chowders.
