Na een jaar graven op Java vond de Nederlandse arts Eugène Dubois in 1892 dit fossiele schedelkapje. Is het van een mens of van een aap, of juist van de missing link tussen beide? Zoek uit of je het eens of oneens bent met Dubois’ interpretatie van de schedel.

Vergelijk het schedelkapje met die van een mens, Neandertaler, Homo erectus, Australopithecus, gorilla, chimpansee en gibbon om te zien waarmee hij het beste overeenkomt. Gebruik de toolsets en kijk ook in Dubois’ aantekeningen.

Stap 3Bepaal met behulp van de methode Frankfurter lijn hoe de schedel op de wervelkolom heeft gestaan. Gebruik de toolset Frankfurter lijn om de juiste hoek te meten tussen het foramen magnum en de oogkassen.

Stap 4Bepaal met de gevonden gegevens of de schedel mensachtig of aapachtig is en of de eigenaar rechtop liep als een mens of zich juist voortbewoog als een mensaap. Vergelijk hiervoor ook het door Dubois bij de schedel gevonden dijbeen met die van andere mensachtigen en van mensapen. Zoek ze op in de collectiedatabase.
