  • High Conservation Value

    Migration, overwintering and mating sites.

This region has an important biodiversity comprising several types of vegetation, in which conifers trees are dominant. Important endemic zone, and some species of flora and fauna are threatened.

In the MBBR there is a clear dominance of social property for the land. Important zone of rainwater capture. It also provides several environmental services of extreme importance for local communities.

  • Strategic Lines: Management Plan

    Communitarian development

    Biological and Environmental Monitoring

    Tourism

    Reforestation and conservation activities.

  • Community Development

Investment programs developed by CONANP in the natural protected areas of Mexico.

PROCODES (sustainable development) support productive projects, training and technical research for the sustainable use of natural resources

PET (temporary employment) provides payments for conservation activities (soil, fire, water, forest)

  • Community Development

PROVICOM (Community Surveillance Program): Focused on strengthen local capacities to carry out monitoring of ecosystems and their biodiversity. This through direct support to communities living in natural protected areas.

PROMAC (Creole Corn Conservation Program): Because the corn, is one of the main sources of food in the rural towns of Mexico, this program was created to contribute to its genetic conservation.

  • Biological and Environmental Monitoring

Monitoring of Monarch Butterfly: Monitoring populations of monarch butterfly in its areas of hibernation.

Monitoring of birds: using diversity of species as an indicator of the quality of the forest.

Monitoring of Ambystoma rivulare: Monitoring population trends of Ajolotes.

Monitoring of springs: Monitoring of quality of water with community participation.

  • Tourism

In the last five years, the tourism development has focused on:1. Tourism feasibility studies2. Tourism Infrastructure3. Road Signs (Signs) 4. Community Training5. Other recreational activities (hiking, mountain bike, camping, photo of flora and fauna).

  • Tourism Infrastructure

  • Community Training

    • Monarch butterfly biology and monitoring (MBF-Reserve).

    • First aid.

    • Food preparation, internal regulations.

    • Hiking, mountain bike, camping and photography of flora y fauna.

  • Reforestation and conservation activities

.Activities of reforestation, nurseries, forest plantations, integral management program of fire, hydrologic services and detection and monitoring of forest pest. All have been done in collaboration with Non-Profits, local people and governmental institutions.

  • Other Mechanisms for strengthening

    Monarch Found

    • Provides payments to local communites for protecting the forest.

    • Compensatory payments for not cutting the trees in the core zone.

    • The decision to make these payments are based on:

    • Monitoring results = 0% loss of forest coverage

    • Carrying out conservation activities: fire preventing lines,

    participate in reforestation programs.

  • Thank you !!!!!
